Huntington Heartbeat

Chapter Four

I woke up to the sound of Mtv the next morning. I had fallen asleep on the couch of the tour bus last night and I guess no one had bothered to wake me. I feel asleep pretty early, thus I had woken up rather early. I heard someone shuffling in the kitchen area so I rose up to see who was there. It was Jimmy- his tall ass was pouring Fruit Loops cereal into a bowl. Or attempting to- they ended up all over the counter top and on the floor, but Jimmy acted as if it were supposed to happen.

“Goddamn it Jimmy, I am not cleaning that. Clean it up!” I told him, feeling a bit annoyed. I am the only female on this bus as of now so it is usually left up to me to clean up around here. Guys are slobs.

“Good morning, beautiful Florence!” he told me cheerfully with his million dollar smile. I held my own back.

“Don’t call me beautiful! We’re cousins- that’s weird!” I complained, giving him an ill look.

“6th cousins! So hah! It doesn’t matter!” he told me, sitting beside of me on the couch with his bowl of cereal. The smell made my stomach growl.

“It does when you grow up together as cousins!” I told him, my eyes growing wide.

“Relax, Florie. I’m only kidding. You’re my little sister.” He told me, chomping down big on his food. Before I could say anything else, Zacky joined us in the room, looking tired as hell and his hair was everywhere. I couldn’t even bear to look at him since he had hooked up with Gypsy that night. It changed things. A lot. I was changing my mind about him.

“Where the hell is Matt?” Brian asked, stumbling into the living area.

“Didn’t come home from his hot date yesterday?” I asked, an amused look on my face. I chuckled when Johnny’s eyes bolted to me as if it was my fault.

“Oh shit. What if he got kidnapped or something?!” He asked, still looking at me. I said nothing, my eyes widening a bit.

“You guys are fuckin’ funny.” I heard Matt’s voice say as he entered the room. I chuckled when I saw him with a bagel in his hand. He looked over at me immediately when he heard my laugh. He wasn’t used to hearing it. He smirked a bit before looking away.

“Good, we can get to work.” Brian said, giving Matt the stare down.

“Later, Brian. We don’t have a show today so we have all day. Florence, have you had breakfast yet?” he asked me, glancing at Jimmy before looking over at me.

“No, I just woke up. I still don’t understand why the hell you guys are up so early, though.” I replied. They never get up this early.

“Flor… it’s like…two o’clock.” Matt told me with a smile. ‘Oh.’ I mouthed, nodding my head. I then smiled and giggled at myself for being so stupid. Matt smiled at me, too.

“I’ll take you to get breakfast if you want to go with me.” Matt offered, finishing off his bagel.

“But you already ate.” I mentioned while he swallowed his last bit.

“No I didn’t.” he said, giving me an innocent look. I was actually in a good mood today so I guess I will just go along with it. I smiled, shaking my head.

“Yeah, just give me time to get ready.” I told him, standing up off of the couch and making my way to the back room to change clothes.

The ride to the restaurant was a bit awkward, as I’m not used to hanging out with Matt. I didn’t really know what to say to him. What is he into? Music, I know that much.

“So, are you excited about working on new material for the next album?” I asked him, looking over at his calm face.

“Yeah… What the hell is this? Another interview?” he joked, giving me his million dollar smirk.

“Sorry, I don’t know what the fuck we’re supposed to talk about. I mean, it’s not like we hang out all the time.”

“Well, just leave it to me. I’ll do the talking.” He said, giving me another smirk. I just rolled my eyes at him.

“So, are you really leaving next week?” he asked me, a sad expression momentarily appearing on his face.

“Yeah… It’s not like I have a reason to stay.”

“Yeah, you do. I mean, I like hanging out with you, I know that everyone else does. We’re all used to you being here now.”

“I know, but the whole photography thing is just getting old. Don’t get me wrong, I love photography. I just need a break. I need something new…”

“Well, I know there’s nothing new we can really do right now, but I plan on drinking tonight. You want to drink with me?” he asked, his voice hopeful.

“Uh…sure… It’s not like I have any other plans.” I replied with a shrug.

“So what’s up with you and Gypsy?” he asked, seemingly out of nowhere.

“What do you mean?”

“She left rather abruptly and she seemed pretty upset about something.” He told me. I didn’t know what to say so I just looked away and shrugged.

“You know, you can tell me anything. You don’t have to be afraid to tell me anything. I’m your friend.” He told me, touching my shoulder. I held back a laugh.

“Thanks, Matt. That’s nice to know.” I told him, shifting a little closer to him to avoid his touch on my left shoulder. He shifted closer to me, apparently taking that the wrong way. It wasn’t that Matt creeped me out, it was just that I had trust issues and he was moving in a little too quickly for my comfort.

“So… how did you date go last night?” I asked him, quickly moving away to face him.

“Oh…uh, it wasn’t really a date… It was more of a…um…” he trailed off, seeming like he didn’t know what to say.

“More like a ‘fuck here and leave there’ sort of deal?” I asked. We both knew that I wasn’t new to his lifestyle and I’m not at all naive. He paused before he answered me.

“Yeah… I guess you’re right. I’ll probably hang out with her again… I don’t want her to feel like I just used her.”

“But you did.” I said, holding myself back from giving him advice.

“I know, but I don’t want her to feel like that.”

“But if you continue to hang out with her, then you’re just leading her on.”

“You’re right… Well what should I do?” he asked me. Matt Sanders asking me for advice.

“It would be a dick move to never call her or talk to her again, but it’s probably the best thing to do. If you don’t love her and you just used her, then treat her way. Don’t make her think you love her and care about her when you don’t. I’ve had the same thing happen to me before and that hurts. “I explained, being a bit more honest than I meant to. He never spoke back, he just nodded.

“So what are we going to drink tonight? I so need a drink.”

“We’ll go old school.” He told me with a smirk. I chuckled remembering the old days when Jimmy and I would drink with him and the rest of the guys. We always drank Jack Daniels.

“Jack?” I asked, returning his smirk.
