Huntington Heartbeat

Chapter Two

Matt was confused when I mentioned that Zacky was going. He said the words "Zack? He's going?... I thought...Never mind. Zacky!", he interupted himself by calling Zacky into the room from the back of the tour bus. Aparently he assumed that it would just be the two of us, but why would he want to have a drink with just me? He knows we can't get along good enough for that.

Anyway, it wouldn't have took us ten minutes to make it to the bar... that is if Matt hadn't insisted that we stop and eat. 'I have to eat first.', he said, 'I'll get sick if I drink on an empty stomach.', he said! Ugh, Matt and I have aruged so much in the past, that everything he does gets under my skin. Even when he's trying to be nice, I end up being a bitch to him, and maybe that's why we argue even more. But he is immature and irrational and he tends to do things that are completely unfair for everyone else in the band. That makes me feel like I have to say something and take up for them and that's where the arguments usually come from.

"I told the cab driver to keep the meter on while we are in here. I'll pay for the everything." Matt insisted as we sat at a table in a fancy French restaurant- that he picked out. No one else had any say! But, no one else really minded to eat there, either. But me, I would rather just eat at McDonald's for fucks sake!

"Well, you are a famous rockstar." I muttered, crossing my arms and avoiding eye contact. He seemed to give me a look of disbelief and then looked away, saying nothing. He is actually making an effort not to argue with me. Maybe I shouldn't push it... but maybe I want to. Maybe I don't know what else to do with Matt than to argue with him. Can't we ever just get along? Maybe I should just focus on Zacky instead.

"You are such a gentlman!" Gypsy told him with a cheesy smile on her face. Matt just chuckled and shrugged. I looked the opposite way and rolled my eyes at my best friend. She can be a bit cheesy and overwhelming at times. The way she flirts is sometimes just too much for guys. It makes her seem intimedating for some guys. Matt probably likes it, though.

"So, Zacky. What do you usually eat here?" I asked him, trying to keep my mind off of the asshole who 'conveniently' had to sit next to me so he could look out the window. Since when did he become a nature freak?

"Actually, I've never ate here before, but I'm not afraid to try new things!" he said, opening one of the menus that were handed to us when we were seated. I nodded and smiled at him. I couldn't seem to keep a straight face around him and I couldn't seem to be nice around Matt. What a night this will be.

"Well, if you're into bread, I would order the Ficelle." Matt suggested, looking over at me. Practically interupting our conversation! How the hell does he know that I love breads? Jimmy must have mentioned it, after all, Jimmy is my cousin. I will not satisfy him and order that, I am going to order something completely different.

"Did I ask you?" I disguised my voice as polite.

"No, you didn't. I was just trying to help, Florence." he told me sweetly, making me feel guilty. No! He will not play that card on me. I will not feel guilty. Remember all of the rude things he has said to me over the years? How can all of this change in just one night?

"Just shut the fuck up, Sanders. You know we're not friends." I spat, stopping the charades completely. He just sighed, looking away from me as the waiter came over to us.

"What can I get you fine ladies and gentlemen this evening?"

"I will have the Poulet frites." I ordered quickly before anyone else had the chance. Gypsy and Zacky ordered and Matt decided to go last because he claimed to have the largest order. He did, and it was taking him forever to explain what he wanted and how he wanted it cooked, etc., etc.

"Damn, can you hurry the hell up?! What are you?! A food critic?" I rushed him, impatiently. He sighed, stopping his order dead in it's tracks to look at me.

"Florence, I have been nothing but nice to you all night and you have been rude and uncivil to me. If you continue to act like this, I will just leave and go back to the hotel. I don't have to deal with this." he warned me calmly. I'm surprised he didn't yell at me, like he usually would have. I just shook my head and looked away from him.

"Flor, can I talk to you in the bathroom for a minute." Gypsy asked me, raising her eyebrows. Shit! Fuck! Fuck! I know what is coming. I nodded, standing up slowly and shimmying behind Matt's chair. I walked swiftly to the bathroom, dreading what was to come. She is going to hound me about my being rude.

"Seriously, Flor? Matt hasn't said one word to you this whole night and you've been a complete bitch to him! You told me he was a dick and he hasn't done anything that could make him a dick! I'm starting to think you just have something against him that I don't know about." she ramble on in her rage. I guess she thought I was going to cock block her or something.

"No, I don't. I'm sorry, Gyp. It's just, I'm not used to not arguing with him. I'm not used to him being nice to me and for some reason, I think it's all just a big show or something. He has never been this nice to me in my whole entire life!"

"Well, just calm down. Pay more attention to Zacky, he seems bored. Please don't piss Matt off and make him leave. I really want to spend some time with him and get to know him a little bit. Let me talk to him some, okay?"

"If you say so, Gypsy Queen." I said, turning around and walking out of the bathroom. This is it, I have to be nice to Matt. I shimmied behind Matt's chair again and sat down. My food was there waiting for me. If I'm going to do this, I need a drink.

"Waiter!" I called, holding up a hand when I saw a waiter walking by.

"Yes, ma'am." The muscular man asked me when I got his attention.

"Please, could you get me a drink?" I asked him, flashing my I.D. that I had pulled out of my wallet.

"Certainly, Miss. What woud you like? He asked, shifting a silver tray to his other hand.

"Grape Wine would be nice." I told him. He smiled at me, nodding and walking away.

"So, you're starting early, huh?" Zacky asked, giving me his million dollar smile. I smiled widely back at him, nodding. I need to start talking to him more, it's just hard. I'm too shy around him.

"Yeah, I have to. I gotta deal with..." I nodded my head towards Matt.

"I can understand that. You two can't get along worth shit. If you hadn't been rude to him, he would have been rude to you, ya know."

"I know... Gypsy doesn't understand that, though. She took me to the bathroom and asked me to stop being so rude." I told him with a chuckle. Luckily, Gypsy had started a conversation with Matt and he was completely oblivious to anything we talked about.

"So, what's your goal for tonight?" Zacky asked me out of nowhere. I was confused about his question.

"What do you mean goal?" I asked him, scrunching up my eyebrows a bit. The waiter interupted, handing me my drink. I took it, happily and treated myself to a big gulp. It tasted amazing... In all honesty, it didn't taste amazing enough for what it probably costs.

"Well, everyone has a goal. Gypsy's is pretty obvious, but what about you? Do you have any expectations for tonight? I mean, Gypsy invited Matt for a reason. Did you invite me for a reason?" he asked me, making my face turn blood red. I can't believe this! He is flirting with me...I think.

"Look! She's blushing!" Zacky coo'd at me, jokingly. This got Gypsy and Matt's attention. They both looked at me, smiling. I shook my head, covering my face in embarassment.

"Shut up!" I called, a smile on my face.

"Guys, I think we should go." Matt said, looking down at his wrist watch.

"Yeah, you probably owe a thousand dollars to that cab driver by now." Gypsy added with a fake chuckle.

Well, the bar was fairly crowded, with a few people singing kareoke and a lot of people dancing. It seemed like a cool place to be and it made me feel better about my current situation. Instead of just jumping into things, we decided to sit down at the table and have a few drinks so that we could start having some fun. An hour and eight shots later, we were all where we needed to be- which was drunk. Matt and I were actually getting along, maybe because we had to since Gypsy and Zacky seemed to be hitting it off. That bitch! The strange thing is, I didn't actually care all that much. Maybe because I'm drunk, maybe not. I was a bit offended when I caught ear of their conversation.

"Florence used to flirt with me all the time!" Zacky said, never even looking at me. He and Gypsy seemed amused about that.

"Are you fucking kidding me?! I still flirt with you!" I interupted them with a chuckle. They both just looked at me and started laughing. I shook my head at the both of them and excused myself to the bar.

"A million shots of Jack, please." I joked with the bar tender. She just smiled and chuckled a bit before pouring me two shots. I paid for them and she left me there all alone. Aren't bar tenders supposed to ask you about your problems?! I sighed, looking down at the two shot glasses full of the amber liquid. Tonight is definitely not going how I expected it would. It is going horrible.

"A penny for your thoughts." I heard a familiar voice say, coming up beside of me. Surprise, surprise. It was Matt.

"Just a penny?" I asked, a fake smile forming on my lips.

"Name your price." he told me, taking one of my shots. He didn't even make a face.

"I'll give it to you straight for free... Let's just say, I invited Zacky for a reason... and you were also invited for a... reason." I told him truthfully, making a somewhat long story short.

"Wow... So I'm actually here for Gypsy? Really? I don't even like her." he told me, seeming a little upset.

"Matt... I mean, you and I...Why would I invite you to get a drink with me if we don't even get along?"

"I thought maybe you needed a plus one because Gypsy wanted to hang out with Zacky."

"No... Zacky was for me. I just don't see you that way, Matt. Not as my plus one. We argue, Matt, that's what we do." I explained the best I could. I actually didn't want to hurt his feelings.

"You have to see me somehow... I mean... How do you see me when you take my photo? You have to look at me a certain way when you do that, right? Just tell me... How do you see me?" he asked, making me feel very uncomfortable for some reason.

"Matt... I... I don't know." I told him, feeling very vulnerable for some reason.

"Just fucking tell me!" he told me, looking deeply into my eyes. What the hell is he trying to do? Is he trying to get in my pants or something? Or maybe he's trying to tell me how he feels about me... Yeah right. I've seen him with girls that are way prettier than I am. Why would he even give me a second glance? I don't like these mind games! Everything added up together scared me a little bit, and I don't do well when I'm scared...I'll tell him how I fucking feel about him!

"You really want to know, Matty? I see you as a piece of shit womanizer who can't keep it in his fucking pants!" I said, shoving his right shoulder with my left hand and getting up to go back to the table with the two lovebirds. I didn't look back to see the surprised and confused look that was probably on his face. After a few minutes he got up himself and joined us all back at the table. Time to pretend like nothing happened again? Well, I don't feel like doing that right now.

"Well... since I'm on a roll... of telling truths, why don't I just add another piece of wood to the fire? This is my last tour. After this, I'm done with photography!" I told them, earning a gasp from Gypsy and stunned looks from both Zacky and Matt.
