Five days and ten hours is how long it took for the results of the DNA test to come back. Things had been far from perfect between Brian and Zack those few days. Brian wasn’t quite ready or even planning a child in his future so the news that his boyfriend could have a kid soon shook him. He spent more time with Jared over the next few days and damn near avoided Zack. His boyfriend on the other hand was ecstatic and happy about the possibility that he could have his first child. He had already gotten the real-estate job so why not complete their happy family with another addition? Zack wasn’t blind and he saw that something was bugging Brian. That’s why when they got the call about the results; before rushing over to see them instead Zack took Brian to the park.
“Brian I need you to tell me what is on your mind.” Zack spoke quietly entwining his fingers with Brian’s as they sat on a bench under an oak tree.
“I don’t thing I can have another kid Zack.” Brian stated honestly; withdrawing his hand and enclosing it with the other one in his lap. Zack let out a sigh and leaned forward; resting his elbows on his knees.
“Brian what were you expecting when you found someone to love? Did you honestly expect to find someone without a kid or one who didn’t want any or with their kids already grown?” Brian shook his head. “Then how is this really any different?”
“I never expected to find anyone to settle down with Zack. That’s why I never thought about it. I raised Jared all by myself after Michelle left; it was hard, really hard. There are so many things I wish I could change about my life but I can’t take them back; they are my past but I will never ever regret Jared. If this baby is yours what if I can’t love it the same?” Zack’s eyes softened and he slid to the ground; he spread Brian’s legs and kneeled in front of him.
“That’s what this is about? You don’t think you could love the baby? Brian you are an amazing man with a big heart. Would you adopt a child?” Brian nodded. Yes. “Would you treat it any differently than Jared?” Brian shook his head. No. “Do you think you could love my child if I had one?” A nod. Yes. “If this baby is mine Brian I know you will love it just as much as Jared.”
Brian let out a sigh and nodded. “If the baby is yours Zack I want to be a guardian if you will let me.”
“Of course I will let you.” Zack pulled Brian into an awkward angled hug. “I love you Brian. No matter what the results are promise me you won’t let it change things between me and you.”
“I promise.” Brian leaned down and whispered to Zack’s lips. “I can’t ever give you up Zack regardless of what is to come. I love you.”
“Do you want to call Matt, have him meet us at the hospital?” Zack stood from his kneeling position and held his hands out for Brian to take.
“No, I think this is something we need to do alone.” Brian stood and wrapped his arm around Zack’s shoulder as they made their way back to the car.
“Are you excited?” Zack began bouncing in his seat.
“A little but I am trying to control the emotion.” Brian smirked driving them towards the hospital. He had his left hand on the wheel and the right on Zack’s thigh. “Baby promise me what ever happens that you won’t think any differently about Jared and I.”
“What do you mean?” Zack raised a brow in confusion.
“Well I just don’t want you leaving us behind, I want you to care about us the same way you do now and not push us on the back burner.” Brian mumbled.
“You know me better than that Brian.” Zack lightly scolded tapping the back of Brian’s hand with his palm.
“Don’t tap at me mister. I will make you pay for that later.” Brian winked at Zack.
“You promise?” Zack purred.
“Yes.” Brian’s grip on the wheel tightened a little bit.
“How?” Zack attempted at being annoying but it came off flirty.
“I don’t know baby. How do you want me to punish you?” Brian smirked wringing his hands on the wheel.

Fifteen minutes later both men walked out of the hospital watching their feet. This answer was supposed to be a relief but now it seamed more of a burden. They both trudged to the truck and climbed in. No one said a word in the car.
“Do you want to call Matt while I get Jared?” Brian wondered as he pulled up to the school. Zack nodded so he got out. Zack groaned to himself as he took out his phone and dialed a familiar number.
“Hey you reached Matt. Sorry I can’t come to the phone right now. If you are calling between the hours of eight and four, I am at work so leave me a message and I will get back to you.”
“Hey Matt it’s Zack; Brian and I just got out of the hospital and we have the results. We would really like it if you could come over later to talk. I will make some dinner and we can discuss what will happen next.”
