Their return date came too fast for the small family. Brian was dragging his ass on the way out the door because he knew Zack was going back to his house. He had even thought about pretending that his car was broken so they could stay longer but he could never lie to Zack like that.

“Come on Brian we have to be out by noon.” Zack placed his hands on his hips, watching his boyfriend lay back on the bed.

“Why. I don’t want to go home yet.” Brian nearly whined from his place on the bed.

“Why not?” Zack began tapping his foot on the hard wood floor.

“Because you wont be there. I just got use to having you around again Zee.” Brian fiddled with his fingers that were resting on his chest. Zack raised a brow and quirked his nose in thought.

“Come on Brian get up. Jared has school tomorrow and you have to go back to work too.” Zack held his hand out with a smile, Brian looked at it warily.

“Why are you giving me that look?” Brian scooted back and away from Zack. “What do you know that I don’t?”

“I have a job interview with the real-estate agency tomorrow.” Zack beamed. “If I get this job I can catch up on my bills and maybe even move to a better place than my apartment.”

“That’s great Zee!” Brian stood wrapping his arms around his boyfriend. “I am so happy for you. Good luck. I just hope you don’t move too far away.” Brian frowned thinking about that possibility.

“Actually Brian that’s what I wanted to talk to you about.” Zack walked over to the edge of the bed and sat down. He wouldn’t look up to meet Brian’s gaze.

“Why don’t I like the sound of this?” Brian took a seat next to him and clasped his hands together. Trying to mentally prepare for what would come next. Why is it when they rekindle the fire in their relationship it just blows out again?

“I found a three bedroom house right around the corner from Jared’s school.” Brian’s eyes widened, turning his head to look over at his boyfriend. If moving away isn’t what is bothering him Brian was dreading what could possibly upsetting his boyfriend. What if he asked Brian for another break? “It has a big back yard that’s fenced in for the pup to run around in and I can literally walk to work; if I get this job.”

“That’s great Zack. If you move you could spend more time with Jared if you wanted.” Brian suggested hoping to urge his boyfriend off of what ever bad was going through his boyfriends head.

“Actually I had something else in mind.” Zack began to nibble on his lip rings. Zack watched his feet tap the floor. “I want you to check the place out.” He paused and finally looked up. “And consider moving in.”

“The point is to be closer to you Zack. If I moved there I would be further away from your place than I am now.”

“I um- uh I meant with me Brian.” Zack became more nervous when Brian’s eyes widened beyond belief. “You would be closer to the school, your job and especially me.”

“Are you serious?” Zack nodded. Here he was mistaking Zack’s nervousness for something bad. Sighing in relief Brian responded. “I thought you wanted to take things slow?”

“This trip made me realize how much I need you guys in my life. I miss you Brian, I miss your warmth when I go to bed and waking up to your smile every morning. I miss Jared jumping into bed with us in the morning and snuggling until the alarm goes off to get him ready for school. With out you two I feel so alone but when I’m with you guys I am so happy and fuck Brian I love you two so much, not being with you hurts. I feel like a part of a family now.” Tears welled in Zack’s eyes.

“You are. You are a part of this family Zack. Ill check the place out and set up a walk through. We can go as a family and see if it’s what we want if you are sure you want to take the next step with us.” Brian caught a stray tear when Zack nodded.

“I want this Brian. I want my family back.”

“We never parted.” Brian’s lips met Zack’s in a tender kiss.

“Can we go home yet?” Jared’s voice boomed through the closed door.

“Yeah buddy lets go home.” Hand in hand the parents followed the little boy through the cabin door for the last time.

The drive back was just as boring as it was on the way up. Eventually the phone broke the comfortable silence. Brian grabbed it and connected it to the car speakers before answering it.

“Hey sweetie, the whole car can hear you so be appropriate please.” Zack gave Brian an odd look.

“Nice to talk to you too Brian; I was just wondering if you wanted Matt to drop the pups off tomorrow so you don’t have to go out of your way on the way home.”

“That would be great Val but no one will be home until around four.”

“That’s okay. Matt wants to talk to you guys tomorrow.”

“Should I make dinner?”

“Sure but the baby and I wont be there. Before you ask please don’t, you will find out tomorrow.

“Is everything okay Val?”

“Not really but we are all okay and safe so don’t worry okay.”

“That’s a little hard to do. I always worry about you guys.”

“We are okay Brian. I will talk to you some other time. Bye.” And the line went dead.
