The cat's out of the bag
Jared and Zack searched through the whole store at least twice. Zack would ask him things like ‘do you think your dad would like this’ and when the boy was distracted with something else Zack would grab it off of the shelf and put it in the cart. The little boy was on a search for the perfect gift and when he thought he found it his attention turned to something else. They stopped down the Valentines Day isle and Zack picked out a few things letting Jared find a couple candies too. Zack even tricked Jared into going down the toy isle, letting him pick one toy but in the process he couldn’t decide going from one toy to another; giving Zack the ideas of what he would want. Zack had picked up gift bags for all of the stuff they had picked and headed over to his own house.
Jared had waited for a few minutes while Zack grabbed some more clothes and important items like his computer and any small things he could want. Zack had a duffle bag full of stuff by the time he got downstairs. He found Jared looking at his x-box 360 games, Zack smiled and packed the console up too and grabbed all of the games. Jared smiled when he realized what he was doing and helped him stuff another bag full of games. Zack quickly grabbed a blanket and his guitar before locking up the house and going to Brian’s.
“Do you have a dog?” Jared asked quietly from the back seat, looking at Zack’s face in the mirror.
“No, why do you ask?” Zack wondered glancing back at him through the mirror as well.
“I saw a dog bed and a bowl so I thought you had a doggie.” Jared stated with a smile on his face, it must have been contagious because it had Zack smiling too.
“I use to have a dog. He was the biggest loving dog you would ever meet. He passed away a few years ago because he was so old.” Zack spoke quietly with a sad smile.
“Why didn’t you get a new puppy?” Jared wondered leaning forward and grabbing a toy from the seat next to him.
“Well I never had time for a puppy before; they take a lot of care and training when they are little.” Zack pulled into Brian’s driveway and got the boy out of the truck. Grabbing the bags Zack and Jared made their way to the door. When they got inside they were met by Brian. His brow was raised and his arms were crossed.
“I got a call from Mr. Kale. He was certainly unhappy that you took him to school this morning. In his words you were rude and mouthy.” At first Zack thought Brian was mad at him for defending himself against the mean man. If anything Mr. Kale started it. A smile lit up on Brian’s face and Zack knew right then that he wasn’t mad. “How did you do it? It took me at least a few months to get on his bad side?”
“He made it pretty clear that since I am not Jared’s parent that I am not welcome to bring him to school. Then he proceeded to chew me out because he thinks kids are better off in real school and that you didn’t give him a reason to home school Jared in the first place. No peeking.” Zack stated when he saw Brian looking at the bags in his hands. “I have a few duffle bags with my stuff in it out in the truck; can you get it for me please?”
“Yeah,” Brian walked up to Zack and kissed his lips tenderly. “Thanks for taking him today.”
“No problem,” Zack stated as he and Jared made their way up the stairs. Zack hid a few of the bags under Brian’s bed and placed the rest on top of it. Jared hopped up on the bed and helped Zack pack the bags with the gifts they had gotten Brian. When Jared ran down stairs to give it to his dad Zack pulled out another bag and the things he had bought Jared. He quickly bagged and wrapped them. He also got out Brian’s valentines gifts and put them in another bag. Zack hid the items in Brian’s closet and grabbed the things he bought for Jared just being so good in the store. He purposely left a few of the bags unattended and on the closet floor.
When he made it down stairs he saw the little boy sitting on the couch, Brian’s bag right next to him. When Jared noticed him he stood and grabbed the bag. Giving Zack’s hand a tug he dragged the older man outside and into the back yard where Brian was sitting on the patio chair. Jared handed Brian the bag and his dad smiled, pulling him into a hug. Zack sat down in the other chair and Jared jumped into his lap bouncing excitedly.
Brian pulled out the first gift and smiled as he read the front. It was a brown teddy bear with the words ‘My dad rocks,” on the front of it. Brian looked further into the bag and grabbed the next thing. Pulling it out Brian gasped tears sprung to his eyes when he saw a shiny new picture frame with a picture of Brian, Zack and Johnny as teens. Brian thought all of his old pictures had been burned when his parent’s old home had caught fire when he was a teen.
“How did you find this?” Brian mumbled looking at Zack.
“Years ago I asked Jimmy to send a picture of him and Johnny as teens, this was just after we graduated. He said that was the only one he had and sent it to me, I never questioned who it was with them but I realized it was you the day we all re-met.” Zack smiled over at him. That picture held a lot of memories.
“I can’t believe that we went to school together and I never knew you. We were best friends with the same people, how did I not know you?” Brian wondered, setting the gift bag down beside him. He made his way to Zack’s chair and sat next to him and Jared.
“You and I were in completely different social circles. Jimmy was a jock who dated Johnny back then so everyone got closer but we didn’t mingle our social circles. I was a nerd you were a common jock. Don’t tell Matt this, but he use to bully me back then.” Brian’s eyes widened in realization, he remembered these two boys that Matt would beat the shit out, he couldn’t recognize the faces but as the thought more about it the more it made sense that it was Zack and Johnny.
“A lot of stuff happened just after that picture was taken.” Brian sniffled and looked over at Jared. “Hey buddy will you go spend some time with uncle Matt?”
“Yeah,” Jared jumped up off the chair and headed inside. When the door was secure Brian cuddled into Zack’s side. The younger man wrapped his arm around Brian and kissed his forehead.
“A few days after that picture was taken my parents split up. My mom and dad decided to go their separate ways. My dad had cheated on my mom years before and wound up with a daughter. My half sister and her mother needed a place to stay so when my mom took off my bad decided to move them in. My dad wasn’t dating her anymore but we had the room. She was a nice woman but she couldn’t see past my appearance because she hit on me every chance she got. Eventually I gave in and slept with her. My dad caught us in bed together a few months later and got so pissed off that he beat me nearly to death, he got half sister and her mom out before lighting the house on fire. Apparently it held to many memories. The firemen got me out of there and since they couldn’t prove my dad did anything wrong so he got away with it. After a while they found him and the girls in a giant house a few miles away. When the police questioned him about why he hadn’t reported me missing or anything he said he thought I died in the fire. For the next half of a year he took me in because child services were watching him, he and my step mom got married and acted like I didn’t exist.” Brian placed a kiss to Zack’s cheek; the smaller man motioned for him to continue. “When they found me in bed with a man shit hit the fan. My dad kicked me out and I started working odd jobs. Eventually I got married and with marriage came the kids. I thought I had a daughter too but I didn’t, Michelle confessed to cheating and we got a paternity test. That was when I divorced her, since then Jared and I have been living on our own. I started working for Dirty Visual and you know the rest.”
“I never knew any of that. I had heard that your dad was a giant help to Dirty Visual but the rest of your life was a secret until I met you.” Zack mumbled running his fingers through Brian’s hair.
“Yeah, the donations he would give I thought were to keep me in contract. I never questioned it because my dad gets what he wants when he wants it. He found out where I worked and then the money started flowing in to Dirty Visual, I thought it was odd but I realized that he wanted nothing more than to make me miserable. I never wanted to work in porn but after I signed the contract I was stuck with it.” Brian pulled away from Zack and sat up in the chair.
“Have you talked to your father since you were kicked out?” Zack wondered leaning up and rubbing Brian’s back.
“No; I haven’t seen my mom in years either.” Brian sniffled, Zack realized that Brian was crying and pulled him to his chest.
“Shh, Brian they don’t deserve your tears. Their not worth it to cry over, if they can’t see how amazing you are then that’s their loss.” Zack tried to soothe the older man.
“Why are you so good to me Zack?” Brian wondered placing his chin on Zack’s chest just over his heart, looking up at him.
“Because I care about you and I don’t like seeing you hurt.” Zack’s lips met Brian’s in a gentle caress. His hands began rubbing through the brown locks again.
“I’m falling in love with you.” Hearing those whispered words come from Brian’s lips made Zack’s heart soar.
“I know I love you.” Zack whispered back with a goofy smile on his face. Brian nearly crawled up his body and pressed their lips together in tender kiss. His tongue parted Zack’s lips, searching the warm cavern. Zack’s tongue joined in playing and he soon was sucking on the muscles. Their kissing continued, gentle caresses were shared with tongues and hands. Before long each man was hard and panting into the others mouth. Zack pulled away first.
“Can we take this to the bedroom?” Brian panted out.
“Not yet Brian; I have a surprise for you but you have to wait for it and you can’t have it today. Please don’t look through the bags in your closet.” Zack whispered against Brian’s lips. Oh yeah it would really be worth the wait.
