Syn POV.

I paced back and forth across the room, mentally cursing. On the other side of the room, Danger sat on the edge of Blair’s bed humming softly. Where the fuck was Zacky?
Jace had reappeared shortly after Danger had dispatched him, looking panicked as apparently Zacky wasn’t anywhere in the house or grounds. Cursing, Danger had Jace open a doorway into the main house and began to lift Blair up into her arms. The panic in my head was so bad that I hardly remembered what I was thinking when I barged past Danger, effortlessly moving Blair into my arms and carrying her through the archway Jace had opened. As I carried her through the house towards her room, Danger quietly began issuing orders. Jace wove together the illusion of a human disguise and disappeared through another archway. Members of Danger’s pack were sent out to look for Zacky and the guys. A combination of changelings and wolves were set on a watch around the property. Danger caught up with me just as I was setting Blair down on her bed. I could feel her burning up as I laid her on top of the covers. I backed away to let Danger come up the next to the bed. Then the pacing began.
“What change is it?” I barked at Danger as I turned and paced back across the room.
“Vampire.” She murmured, brushing some hair out of the kids face.
“Are you sure? The moon is close.” Danger turned and fixed me with a look that had me pausing in my pacing.
“The moon may be close, but you know better than that.” She turned back to Blair, laying a hand on her forehead. “Fuck, she’s getting hotter. And paler.” My heart began to pound. That wasn’t good. She couldn’t get much hotter, we needed to try and cool her down. I turned to head towards the door. “Where do you think you’re going?!” Snapped Danger, suddenly appearing in front of me.
“Going to get ice to try and cool her down.” I replied, trying to step around her.
“You can’t.” She darted back in front of me and sighed. “You’re the only full blooded vamp in this house right now. You leave this room and she dies.” I froze. In my panic to help her, I’d forgotten the most important fact of the vampire change. “Stay with her, I’ll get the ice.” And with that Danger vanished, leaving me to pace alone. The vampire change was, in theory, the easier of the two changes that Blair would have to make it through. The fact that it was this bad so soon wasn’t a good sign. The later the change came, the more serious it was, the harder it hit. The vampire change was like a sickness, it hit quickly out of nowhere, like the worst ever case of the flu, changing the whole body. I still remembered my change, all those years ago. Feeling like my whole body was on fire, the perpetual ache. The first craving hitting you like a sledgehammer to the gut. It nearly drove me insane. The change is hard, but compared to the first wolf shift that she would soon have to face, it was a breeze. With the full moon so close, if the wolf change came on this month, Blair wouldn’t stand a chance.
Across the room, she shifted on the bed a groan creeping out from her lips. Before I knew what I was doing, I was on the bed next to her. She was still out cold, her face already so much paler than when she first fell. Sweat plastered her hair to her face, a sign of just how high her fever was burning. Sat next to her, I could feel the heat radiating off her. Shit. Shit, shit, shit. Where was Danger with the ice? I slowly reached out and lightly touched a hand to her cheek.
“Fuck!” She felt like she was on fire, snatching my hand away I almost expected to find it burned from how hot she was. “Danger! Get in here!” I yelled, gathering Blair up into my arms. Ice wasn’t going to be enough. Not anymore. I moved into the bathroom, carefully setting Blair down in the bathtub.
“DANGER!” I yelled, turning on the cold tap to full and crouching down next to Blair, smoothing some of the hair out of her face. She was still getting hotter. Danger appeared at the doorway, hauling what appeared to be the entire contents of the freezer with her.
“Balls.” She swore, starting to dump ice and frozen goods into the bath around Blair.
“Her temperature is climbing through the roof. Where the fuck is Zacky?” It had always been the plan that Zacky was going to bring Blair through her Vampire change. He was supposed to be nearby all the time until she had changed. Where the fuck was he? Danger grimaced.
“Zack left me a note in our room. Looks like Shadows dragged everyone out on an urgent reconnaissance mission. Kidnapping or something like it. It’s only us here. And that’s only because he didn’t have time to grab us.” No. Fucking. Way. I let loose a string of curses that would make a sailor blush. When they got back I might murder both Shadows and Vengeance. This was jeopardising the plans that Zacky had had us all working on for the past however many years. Not to mention risking Blair’s life. Danger sent me one of her looks that always meant she knew more than she was saying.
“What? What’s the look for?” I snapped. I hated that look. She was too bloody perceptive for her own good. And secretive. She gave me a small smile.
“Nothing, the bath is going to overflow.” I glanced back towards the tub, turning the cold tap off. I touched a hand to Blair’s forehead.
“She’s starting to cool down a bit.” She was still looking too pale, and her face was starting to look gaunt too. That wasn’t a good sign. She was changing way faster than was normal. She must have been having symptoms for days without realising it. “When are they going to be back?” I looked back at Danger, noticing the worry in her eyes too.
“I don’t know. I can’t reach Zack on his cell.”
“Where did they go? Hasn’t Jace had any luck yet? What about any of the others?” Danger shook her head.
“I can’t get any of them. Jace isn’t back yet. Matt even took Val and the girls with them.” Fuck. It must’ve been an important job for Matt to take Val along with him. To say that he could be a little over protective of his mate was an overstatement. Danger took in Blair in the bath for a moment before standing.
“Keep her in there for now, stay with her. I’m going to try and reach Zacky.” I knew she didn’t mean by phone. As soul mates, they had a strong connection, one that amplified Danger’s natural gifts. She could adapt the dreamwalking magic that she had used to connect with Blair before we took her and talk to Zacky mind-to-mind. It could take a lot of power and concentration. She frowned. “I won’t be far, call if you need me.” I nodded and with that she was gone. I looked back to Blair, she hadn’t stirred, even after being submerged in icy water. Around her an assortment of frozen foods floated, slowly defrosting in the water. I brushed more hair out of her face. Her skin was starting to get a greyish hue. I breathed out shakily. Come on Zacky, where are you?

Notes

Welp. It's been a while. I was sorting through some old bits of fics on my computer, came across this half finished chapter and rather unexpectedly got my writing bug back.
Hope someone out there still reads this...
