Kelly Baker couldn't count the number of times she had been let down by her brother. He was either always late or never showed up to her important events. No matter how times he had let her down, though, she never failed to stay by his side. Whether it was his band practices or hometown shows, she was there cheering him on. She just wished her brother could do the same for her.

Kelly shook her head as she entered the warm auditorium from the frosty weather outside. It had been unusually cold the entire week. Kelly didn't mind though, she loved the cold. She took off her gloves as she walked to the dressing room to make sure her hair was still perfect. Tonight was the showcase for her school. She was thrilled she had been chosen to play her piano solo for the opening act; it was one of the many things she enjoyed doing, playing piano.

She remembered the first time she had played piano was with her brother, Zacky. He had taught her to keep her fingers relaxed and to close her eyes, imagining the notes drifting from the keys as she played.

"That's it," Zacky encouraged her as she kept playing the random keys that seemed to fit so well when played together. Zacky even added a few low chords to make the song even better. The song they played together was entitled "Garrett's Remedy." It was named after their grandfather before he passed.

"Kelly," the familiar voice of Brian Haner broke her thoughts. She turned around from the mirror she was staring in to her friend. She smiled up at him. His strong arms embraced her into a much needed hug. Kelly pulled away to see his Brian's sister, Ashley, smiling at her with a bouquet of white and pink roses, Kelly's favorite.

"Aw, you guys!" Kelly took the flowers from Ashley's extended arm and hugged her.

"It was nothing, and plus you deserve them. You're super talented like your brother."

Kelly frowned. Brian knew that face all too well. "He's not here is he?"

Kelly shook her head as tears formed at the rims of her eyes. "I just don't understand why he would miss something so important to me. I'm always there for him." Kelly smirked as Ashley hugged her again.

"I know, but hey, we'll have fun without him." As soon as those words left Ashley's mouth, Zack Baker walked into the dressing with an apologetic look. His tie was crooked and his hair a mess. His green-blue eyes looked directly into Kelly's brown ones.

"Kells, I am so sorry. I had a long-"

"Day and you didn't think you were going to make it but you didn't want me to tell you that you stink so you went home for a shower but you ran into an old 'friend' and got carried away." Kelly finished her brother's sentence and pushed past him to the stage. She was fired up inside but you couldn't tell from her face. She was ready to do this opening so she could kick her brother's ass after.
