Complicated Love

Wedding Plans

It had already been a month since Jimmy had proposed and I missed him so much. I was so happy that my life was going so amazing. I was a full kindergarten teacher, I was engaged to my best friend, another one of my best friends was living with me, and Val was helping me plan my wedding.
It was Friday night and I was exhausted, but Kayla and I were at Val's doing wedding stuff. The guys would be home for a nice long time in May so we had decided to have it July 2nd. Jimmy agreed that a summer wedding outside would be perfect for us. And that would give us enough time to have our honeymoon and then some time to ourselves afterwards before I went back to teaching.
I sat in Val's living room looking over the guest list. "Val, I don't even know half of these people. Will you please cut it down considerably? Jimmy and I decided that we don't want it to be THIS big. Close family and friends. Why would I need," I found a name I didn't recognize, "Penny Tilmer? Who is that?"
Val shrugged and took the list from me. "My hairdresser."
My mouth dropped open. "Seriously? No. People I know, please."
"Fine. It's your wedding," she said starting to cross off a lot of names.
I leaned back on the couch and Kayla laughed. "You really get into doing weddings, don't you Val?"
"I had the best time planning mine. I guess I just got too excited with Brooke's. Sorry, baby."
I nodded. This was going to be one long process, but definately worth it.
I couldn't wait to be Brooke Lynn Sullivan. Even thinking about that made me smile. I didn't even mind that I was named after a city anymore.
Val held up several swaths of fabric in front of me. "Ok, Brooke. Last thing for the night and then you can go home. You said your colors were two shades of purple and white. So here are some fabrics for bridesmaids dresses. Choose."
I rubbed my eyes then moved to look at the fabrics. I chose a rich lavender, one that was slightly deeper than that and a sheer purple fabric to put over it. "Mix these together somehow," I said to Val as I stood. "I have got to get home. I'm exhausted. Chasing a bunch of five-year-olds will definately take it out of you."
Val smiled up at me. "Just wait until you and Jimmy have children of your own."
"Yeah," Kayla interjected. "but dealing with your own kids is way different. Who knows, maybe you can't handle all that stress."
I turned to her. Since Christmas, Kayla had been saying stuff like that. Suggesting that I shouldn't get married or that I should wait a very long time before we got married because maybe we weren't really the ones for each other. I just took it as her getting jealous, but right now I was too damn tired to deal with her shit.
"What's your problem, Kayla? Are you jealous of me?" I asked her.
She rolled her eyes and headed for the door. "Whatever. I'm only trying to be a good friend. Let's go."
I moved to hug Val. "Bye, sweetie." I said. "Come over tomorrow."
She nodded and said, "Get some sleep, Brookie."
The next morning, I was woken from a good dream by my phone going off. I groaned when I reached over to answer it. "Hello?"
"Hey, Baby. Did I wake you," I heard Jimmy say.
"Yes. Yes you did. From a really good dream I might add."
He chuckled lightly. "Was it about me?"
"Always." I said, yawning. "What's up babe?"
"Well we have a show in a few hours but I wanted to talk to my beautiful fiancee." Jimmy said.
I smiled everytime I heard him say that. "I love you, Jimmy."
"I love you too, Brooke. So, how's the wedding planning going? You decided your Maid of Honor yet?"
"Yeah. I'm going to tell her today," I said. "Val has been taking over and that's fine with me for the most part, but she tried to invite so many people we didn't even know lastnight. I'm going to have to watch her kind of closely."
He laughed. "That's Val for you. But her wedding was gorgeous so I know ours will be too. Even though we could get married in Vegas by Elvis and I'd still be the happiest man in the world"
"Sounds tempting," I said, laughing. "But Val would hunt us down and kill us."
We talked about our wedding plans a little bit more until I heard Matt tell him they had to go. I heard Jimmy sigh. "Alright, Brooke. I'll call you when I can. I love you baby."
"I love you too," I said before I hung up.
Today, when Val came over, she had a huge white binder in her hands and she slammed it down on my coffee table. "Plans," she said.
"I can see that, but can you be careful where you plop it down at? The thing could break my table and I can't afford to buy a new one right now."
Kayla came into the room with coffee in her hands. "Yeah whatever, Brooke. After you marry Jimmy, you could afford to buy anything you wanted. Lucky," she said as she sat down.
I threw her a look. "Is that what you think? That I'm marrying Jimmy because he's rich and famous?"
She shrugged. "Who wouldn't?"
"I wouldn't. I've known him since we were five, Kayla. That was WAY before he became famous." I said starting to get angry.
Kayla took a sip of her coffee, completely calm. "Yes, but you only recently started 'loving' him. It'll make people think, Brooke."
"People can shove their thoughts up their snobby asses. I'm marrying him because I love him." I said. Friend or not, she had no right to talk to me like this. Kayla had never acted like this when we lived together at college.
I had to get away from her. "Hey, Val, let's go get some lunch," I said heading for the door and grabbing my keys.
"Yeah, alright." she said following me.
When we were finally seated at the restaraunt, Val leaned forward on her elbows. "What's up with, Kayla? She's been kind of crabby about this whole wedding thing. You think she's jealous?"
I nodded taking a drink of my Dr. Pepper. "I think so. I hope she'll get over it. I cannot deal with the wedding, having Jimmy so far from me and her attitude as well. I'm barely able to do the first two."
"If she's really your friend, she'll get out of it and help you."
The waitress came back and we ordered our food. For a while we talked about colors for the bridesmaids dresses.
"So," Val asked," You finally decided who you want in the bridal party?"
"Yes," I said smiling. "I was actually going to talk to you about that. I was wondering if you'd be my Maid of Honor?"
Val did a small squeal and leaned across the table to awkwardly hug me. "Of course! I thought you were going to ask Kayla."
"Nah. You've been a closer friend to me, Val. She's going to be a bridesmaid, though. So I need two more in there don't I?"
Our waitress came with our food and Val waited until she was gone to begin talking again. "Yeah. Jimmy has his bandmates as his groomsmen and to make it even, I'd suggest you add two more."
I took a bite of my enchilada. "But you and Kayla are pretty much the only female friends I have."
"Didn't you have two twin cousins when we were growing up? Are they still in town?"
Oh yeah, my cousins. Sarah and Katie were a year younger than me and had been around quite a bit when I was growing up. "I think so. I'll call Uncle Jimmy tomorrow to see if I can't get a hold of them."
The rest of our lunch, we talked about who we were going to invite and what kind of food i wanted. It was so great and relaxing to be out with Val. She understood how I felt about Jimmy being gone so long and she understood me. She really was an awesome friend to me.
When I got home, Val got in her car and went home. I walked in the house and found Kayla on the couch watching some soap opera. She didn't even look my way when I walked in.
"Honey, I'm home," I said.
Kayla waved at me without taking her eyes off the tv. "Yeah alright. How was lunch?"
I sighed. I was not looking forward to telling her that I had not picked her as my Maid of Honor, but she had to find out sooner or later. "Good. I asked Val to be my Maid of Honor."
At that, she whipped her head around. "What?! Why didn't you ask me?"
"Because, Kayla, Val has been my best girl friend since middle school. You're still a bridesmaid." I said sitting next to her.
Kayla shot up and headed for her room. "Whatever, Brooke. It's your fucking wedding. You can do whatever you want huh? I hope you're happy when that marriage collapses."
What the hell was she talking about? I got up and stuck my foot in her door just as she was closing it.
"Let's get a few things straight," I said to her. "You are a fucking guest in my house and you will not treat me like shit or else you will find yourself homeless. Another thing, you need to get this stick out of your ass. Whatever is bothering you about me getting married, you need to get over it if you want us to continue to be friends."
Kayla sighed. "Fine. I'm sorry. I'm just jealous, ok? Let me close the door."
I moved my foot and she slammed the door in my face.

No one on the site is wrong about her being a great author. Everyone has an opinion and you should respect it. I'm not saying this just because the author is my best friend, I'm saying this because everyone has an opinion and you kinda took the whole "constructive criticism" thing too far. I'm not sure if you meant it this way, but it came quite rude. Her stories all have a lot of views and great ratings. I don't think this entire site is wrong.
ok i have been reading this all day then i went through the comments. i have to be honest...i barely got through it. its hard to keep up with and the story isnt even very good. people saying that you are one of the best writers on here are wrong. ^.^ just saying
