I sat down on my bed, a cigarette in one hand, and a book in the other. It was Saturday, or as I like to call it, Chill Day. Not very creative, but I didn’t mind. It was a day that I normally didn’t have to worry about anything, or anyone. There was no school, no practice, and rarely any people. I also had all of my homework done by Chill Day, so nothing would stand in the way of me and my, well chill.

Sometimes Katie would come over, just to spend some quality time together, something which we almost never had since high school started. She was to busy being friends with people who loathed my existence, and I was busy being the loner girl, and the only time I spent socializing was either when I was at practice, or a game. But most of the times, I hoofed it alone.

I was to interested in my book to acknowledge that she was in my room, until she said my name. My eye widened and I dropped my cigarette in surprise.

“How long have you been in here?” I asked, rushing to pick up my cigarette before it brunt a hole in my comforter.

“About a minute and a half.” She smiled at me, as she threw her long blond hair into a loose bun and sat on my bed, “your mom is passed out on the couch again by the way.”

“Isn’t she always,” I sighed, taking a drag of my cigarette.

“I’m sorry,” she mumbled, looking down at my bed.

“Don’t worry, I’m over feeling sorry for her, she’s a drunk, and I’ve finally realized that it isn’t going to change, I’ve tried help and been beaten for it to many times to even bother anymore.”

There was a long silence after that, the awkwardness of having not been able to talk to each other about things like these having worn on our ability to, and it didn’t help that she had tried numerous times to get me to live with her.

“Anyway..” she began, and I could already see where this was headed.

“No.” I rolled my eyes at her attempt, “I’m not doing it.”

“Can you at least let me finish my sentence?” she asked, slightly annoyed I had interrupted her.

“All your going to do is ask me to go to a party with you and your asshole friends, so why bother?” I shot back at her.

“I don’t see why you hate them so much,” she sighed, and I could feel her burning holes into my head with her eyes as I put out my cigarette.

“Because your “friends” are the same people who make my life a living hell, knocking my books down, laughing at me for being a loner, and starting rumors about me being pregnant or sleeping around with people, or being a lesbian,” I stated.

“Look,” she yelled “I didn’t come here for a fucking guilt trip, I came here to try and get you out of your house and have a fucking life for once. You’re a senior Harp, and you aren’t going to be one again. You need to have some fun while you’re still a teenager! It’s what? Five months until you’re eighteen, and what do you have to look forward to then? Buying your own cigarettes? Really Harper.”

“And I didn’t invite you over in the first place! You’ve changed Katie, the girl I used to call my best friend wouldn’t be going to parties and getting so drunk she couldn’t remember her first fucking name! Yeah, I’ll give you that you haven’t gotten to the point where you’ve fucked eighty guys but I’m not going to be surprised when that happened either!”

“I’m fucking leaving!” She stated grabbing her bag. “Sorry to intrude on your personal fucking space.”

And with that, she was gone, and so was the only friend I had in this whole forsaken town.
