Walk With Me

Chapter 26

Fate wasn’t even the right word to describe this. It was more of a – destiny. And pure luck. They were born to make incredible music and together they found their ways. After playing an awesome gig in Chain Reaction, Anaheim, the four of them were now sitting across the table facing a person who will change their life forever.

“Am I dreaming?” Jenna pinched her cheek hard and felt a sharp stinging pain after.

The guy who introduced himself as Victor, smiled at her.

“No you’re not Jennifer.”

Jenna glared at him. She hated people calling her that. Reminded her of an awful relationship in the past. But today she didn’t care. They were approached by a talent scout and now they were promised a contract from a fucking famous record label, Warner Bros.

Erika was more than stunned. Her mind started spinning around because she knew if they took this opportunity, they will have a chance to work together with Avenged Sevenfold as they were staying under the same label.

“Erika?”

She tilted her head up abruptly. “Yeah?”

“You’re not dreaming too, you know.”

She chuckled nervously and glanced at the other members. Drew was the calmest; he just leaned back into his chair and be himself.

“I know. It’s just – wow. To be approached like this was something that I, that WE have been dreaming of.”

“I’m glad to know that. I’ve been following you guys ever since last year. You guys were opening for Fall Out Boy, right?”

“Oh yeah. Good times. Pete was crazy as fuck, man.” Chris replied and they all laughed remembering how fun it was to tour with the guys from Fall Out Boy.

“So I take it you guys are in?” Victor asked again.

“Hell yeah!” they shouted together. Even Drew was doing the same. Their wide grins weren’t going to fade away today.

******************************************************************************************************

Erika slowly killed her engine as she parked in front of her house in Santa Ana. The other band mates were already made their way back to LA. Erika on the other hand, felt that this great news had to be shared with somebody and she immediately thought of her parents. Since Anaheim and Santa Ana wasn’t too far, she figured what the hell.

After shoving in her copy of key into the doorknob, she went in nervously, hoping that her mom’s rage would be gone off by now.

“Hello?”

The living room was empty so she moved on to the kitchen.

“Mom?”

The whole house didn’t answer her. She traced her fingers on everything, picking up picture frames, stopping by occasionally to stare at some paintings and so on. She missed being here although the house hadn’t change too much.

The kitchen was empty too. She went upstairs to her parents’ bedroom. It was unlocked and there was nobody inside it. But slowly she heard a faint sound of people conversing and it came from across to where she was standing – her own room. She approached it and through the halfway opened door she saw her parents were sitting on the edge of her bed and were talking to each other. Her mom was holding a picture frame in her hands. Her picture.

“Look what you’ve done. You should’ve just let her do what she wants instead of deciding what’s best for her. Now she’s been gone for six months and we’ve never even hear from her again.”

“I never knew she was this serious.”

“Didn’t you see all the drumset that she bought even after you smashed it all? What kind of mother are you? Those two people are looking for her and God knows why. Maybe she’s in trouble and as her parents, we couldn’t help her!”

“It’s all my fault.”

Erika quickly pushed the door open when she heard her mother started to cry.

“Who’s looking for me?”

Both of her parents turned their heads quickly to the door.

“ERIKA!” her mom ran towards her and hugged her tightly. “I’m sorry honey. I’m sorry I made you move out. You can play anything you want now. I won’t stop you!”

Erika froze in her embrace. Wow. It only took her 6 months away from home and her mother was already giving in?

“Er, thanks mom. I guess. I’m sorry I haven’t been around.”

Mrs Wesley pulled away from the hug and smiled at her. Erika looked at her dad in disbelief. She thought that the old man never cared for her, yet he was the one who stood by her and gave her his full support, discreetly.

“Dad.”

She ran into his arms. It was like meeting her long lost father.

“Erika, my dear.”

“You’re here for good, honey?” Mrs Wesley stroked her hair while she was still in her dad’s embrace.

“Actually no.” she parted and looked at the both of them intently. “I came to tell you guys a good news.”

“What is it?”

“We’ve been offered an official record label!”

They blinked at her, dumbfounded. Didn’t even understand what that means.

“We’re gonna be rock stars!” she explained while jumping excitedly.

“Really? Then, then…are you going to have your own posters like these bands you like?”

“Oh, mom. We’re wayyy ahead of that.”

“Congratulations, darling. But why won’t you move back in?”

“I’ll be really busy as I already am now. I don’t really have time to drive back home so I guess I should just stay with Jen for now.”

“You mean Jenna? That green haired girl who came with you five months ago?”

Erika chuckled remembering when Jenna dyed her hair in a crazy lime green color the first day she moved out of this house.

“Yeah. But that was before. Her hair’s back to normal now.”

“And you, oh my God! Your hair’s red!”

“Mom, don’t freak out. It’s just a hair dye.”

“I know. Just don’t mingle with the wrong people okay, dear. We don’t want strange people came looking for you like you’re in trouble or something.”

“Oh yeah. That reminds me. Who was looking for me?”

Mr Wesley’s eyes rolled back upwards, trying to remember the two person’s name who was looking for her earlier.

“Two guys. One with pineapple hair and the other have really big eyes. Looks a lot like Mesut Ozil.”

“Who?”

“The soccer player. For German. Ah you don’t watch soccer.”

Pineapple hair and a soccer player resemblance? What a weird description. Who could they be? Erika shook her head quickly, trying not to get too worked up on it.

“You’re having lunch here, honey?”

She glanced at her mom and was glad she was their angel again. “Sure. I love you mom, dad.”

“We love you too sweetheart.”
