Lips of Deceit

Prologue

One of the officers walked down the corridor to check on all the inmates. Each one seemed to be okay, a few were still in their cells. The most dangerous ones were still locked up waiting to be escorted to the phones to make a midday call. To say all the inmates were female it was still just as scary as it would be in a male prison. It was strangely quiet as the officer walked down the corridor checking on each woman as he went. For everyone else this was standard but Lily knew differently. The officer stopped outside her cell and they began to make light conversation through the bars as other officers passed. No one paid any real attention to them; if they did they would have noticed the unconscious woman that was slumped in the corner of the room. When no one was looking the officer slipped Lily a set of keys, she discreetly placed it in her prison issued clothes before strolling off. For an inmate she knew how to look good and she made the prison issues look more like an item off of a catwalk. She knew how to work the male police officers and had perfected the art of making them forget she was a dangerous murderer. She had everyone in the prison wrapped around her finger and ran it more like her empire. Lily was hardly an inmate, she had a say in everything and before any decision was made it was checked by her. There was nothing that went on in the prison that wasn't done to help Lily in anyway. The only thing Lily couldn't get was her freedom, it didn't mean she never asked. In fact she had asked, every single day for the past two years, three months, six days, at exactly one in the afternoon. Right now the clock in her cell was ticking away her time left in this prison. "I guess I don't have to ask to be let out today. So i guess it's only a matter of minutes before this bitch wakes up again and I'm out of here." she spoke to the nearest officer and looked over to the unconscious woman. "You aren't free yet. You have at the very least another thirty years being locked up. I think it should be more but you have a way of getting out of things like this. You're only going to another prison." he replied with a smug grin. "I wouldn't count on that. Once that clock reaches one it will be announced that I never got there. I will be free again, like you said, I have a way of getting out of things like this." The other woman groaned as she opened her eyes. The officer smirked before he carried on walking. The woman quickly got up and began shouting at Lily. Lily shouted back but quickly got bored and so she attacked the other woman once again before sending her flying into the bars. The woman was either unconscious or dead, but Lily didn’t really care which. Lily was quickly cuffed and dragged out of her cell and down towards the dining hall. Shouts sounded behind her, most in admiration as they were too scared to get on her bad side. Four male officers dragged her to the entrance of the dining hall. They weren’t being gentle but Lily knew they could be worse. No words were exchanged about what was about to happen, they knew cameras were watching their every move and no one ever seemed to know if the cameras even worked or not. They paused just inside the room and looked around, a couple of girls caught Lily’s eye. Lily shrugged and seconds later all hell broke loose. Everyone began fighting each other and police could do nothing to stop it. Some of the newer inmates ran away from the massacre. They seemed to be too scared to get involved. Lily always wanted to leave an impression when she left and knowing this was her doing brought a smile to her face. The smile never left her face as she was dragged through the middle of it. Sure people were dying in front of her and blood was everywhere but the satisfaction of causing this nightmare was too great not to be happy about it. One of the inmates came at her with a huge knife. You could see she had all intention to kill. Lily just smirked as one of the officers unlocked the cuffs that were stopping her from fighting. Just as the other woman got close enough, Lily put all her weight back on the officer who was now stood behind her and kicked her right leg up sending it crashing into her jaw. The woman stood back dazed for a second and Lily jumped forward grabbed her knife and drove into her neck. The women let out half a scream before she fell to the floor. Although the officers knew that Lily wouldn’t try to run they cuffed her again for show and dragged her roughly through the mass of people. The crowd seemed to part now as they walked through. Through cries of pain and anger, people shot her knowing glances and the people who got close enough to Lily whispered their goodbyes and wished her the best. It was no secret that she was being moved to another prison. Except the people wishing her well were all in on the whole plan and all of them too scared to spill a word to another soul. Eventually once they got her through the mass of people and out of the prison; she climbed into one of the police vans alongside two other men who were moving prisons from somewhere downtown. She checked her pocket watch and noticed that it signalled midday. A police officer climbed in as well and the van wasted no time and was soon speeding away from the place where Lily had spent the last two and a bit years of her life. While in the van Lily relaxed and began to think about how glad she was to be getting out of there. Yeah of course she liked it there but it had nothing on the feeling of being free. She knew she had to be on her guard at all times over the coming weeks. But if things turned bad, it was nothing a little money and a whole lot of violence couldn’t solve.  She sat with her head tipped back so it was resting on the inside of the van with her eyes closed. She knew the two male prisoners were watching her, she could feel their gazes burning into her. She knew she was covered in blood but she didn’t think anyone really cared. “How did a pretty little miss like you get all covered in blood?” the biggest one of the men purred, “Let me guess you were done for doing drugs, that tends to be what the pretty ones are jailed for. What about prostitution, I know men sure would pay a hell of a lot of money to fuck you. I bet you ain't nothing but a dirty…” She opened her eyes and sent her leg flying out and it caught him in the shoulder. He laughed but finished his sentence anyway, “…little whore. You should watch what you do missy, I could kill you if I tried, you don‘t seem one to kill someone” “Please do try and kill me I could do with a test, haven‘t had much competition in prison for a while. And you don't think I'm one to kill? Who is the one covered in blood?" she spoke calmly and checked the watch again. Only 8 minutes in, she still had time.  She watched the other prisoner intently as he smiled at her. He wasn’t saying anything but he had a knowing look in his eyes. She stared at him and he stared back. The police officer told the biggest man to not to piss her off at all but he ignored it. The other man watched her as intently as she watched him. She knew him from somewhere and he knew her. He looked as if he couldn’t hurt a fly but Lily knew all too well that looks can be deceiving. She turned to the police officer who just nodded knowing what she wanted. He pulled the keys from her pocket and undid the handcuffs again. She pulled off the jumpsuit and she was already wearing a pair of shorts and a black tank top underneath. She put the keys in her shorts pocket and looked at the watch, 13 minutes gone. “Do you two have names?” she simply said to both of the prisoners. “The Agony.” the biggest one said. “I want to know your real name, asshole.” He snorted in disgust but replied anyway, “Anthony Pierce.” “Okay and your name.” “Charles Peterson or The Breaker, whichever one you want to call me by.” he shrugged and it dawned on Lily who he was. “You were part of The Harlem right? Got busted by cops when a robbery went wrong. I knew I knew who you were, you did a few jobs for me when you were beginning to take control of New York.” She smiled at him and he smiled a small smile back.  17 minutes gone. “You’re going to kill us both aren’t you?” Charles replied. “She wouldn’t even dare.” Anthony snapped. “You have no idea do you,” Charles said turning to the bigger man, “if she wants you dead you will be killed whether you fight back or not. She won’t get done for it; I bet she has paid off every officer back in her old prison to cover for her.” “I am going to kill you both, but I’m beginning to think you could be quite useful to me now. Anthony is a dead man walking and there’s nothing he can do to change that.” Anthony let out a growl and she punched him in the face. She heard a bone crack and smiled before turning her attention to Charles, “You are good with computers and if no one tipped off the police, that robbery would have gone fine. I know you didn’t know that but I actually met the person who sent the tip off and well they were tortured and then put six feet under.” “Why would you do that for us?” he inquired.  21 minutes gone. “I owe you guys and I guess killing you now would only make my debt to The Harlem bigger. You are staying alive. He’s about to die.” She turned to the police officer and he handed her a gun. She aimed it in between Anthony’s eyes and fired. His body went limp and he was immediately dead. She passed the gun back and took off Charles’ handcuffs. He took off his jumpsuit and he also had a spare change of clothes on underneath. Lily raised an eyebrow and he just pointed to the policeman who in turn grinned at Lily. The policeman pulled out two rucksacks and gave one to each of them. They each put on different hats and glasses and put all the other stuff they had with them in the back packs and put them on their backs. Half an hour down, ten minutes to go. “This was the perfect idea until you went all dress up on me.” Lily said sarcastically. “Well you can’t even tell it is you, you both look like tourists. You are now back home on the outskirts of California and you will thank me for this later. Im glad you have always kept your identity secret, it sure made this easier. Everything is set up, we just need to get to the right spot and then you can both walk free. Oh and you are going to have to knock me out and look like you have actually broke out of the van. By the way, it isn‘t that we didn‘t have faith in you, it‘s just that we thought he needed to be let out too. He was beginning to piss people off.” the police officer smirked as he spoke about Charles Lily smirked at him and then looked to Charles who sent her a look which said everything he wanted to say. Lily checked the watch once again, 5 minutes before the driver made the call. She nodded once and before the police officer could react he had been knocked out by Charles and was now lying on the floor of the van. The driver of the van came to a stop and she knew it was now or never and so they both kicked the back of the van open and walked free. Onto one of the quiet backstreets just outside California. It was now half past. They wasted no time and made their way to the room in the motel that had been booked under a fake name. Once they got in the room Charles began to protest, he realized what she had gone there to do. He found out why she wanted to do it he let her get on with it. He guessed he couldn't do anything to stop it. She made a noose and managed to hang it from the ceiling with little trouble. She set up a few lines of cocaine and began to write her suicide note.  She switched on the news channel and as the clock in the motel room chimed one o'clock, there was breaking news about how Lily Joel had escaped from prison along with Charles. She broke her pocket watch so it stayed on one o'clock and he took it as his time to leave. He checked himself out of the apartment and took off in a hired car so he wouldn’t be anyway near when the police and ambulance finally got there. It was precisely ten past one when the officer from earlier found out and he cursed himself for not warning anyone sooner.
