Lost Cause

Chapter Four

"Get up." Was the words that I woke up to, feeling someone grabbing my arm and yanking me from the warm bed.

"Ouch!" I complained, pulling my arm away and rubbing it with me left hand. It hurt badly. I was cranky in the mornings as it is and I hadn't even yet figured out who had pulled me out of bed. I looked up at the face of the asshole, wearing aviator sunglasses. Again. I scolded him with my eyes and looked down at the ground, hating my life again.

"I told you today was going to be a lot different than yesterday. I didn't lie about that, Halen. Now get your shit out of my room so my maids can clean." He said, motioning towards my dress and my shoes. I rolled my eyes when I was sure he wasn't looking and picked my things up off the floor. He grabbed my arm again and pulled me outside his room.

"Where the fuck is Brian? I told him to meet me up here." he said, looking around impatiently. He sighed and then took his cell phone out to text him.

"So...What's happening? Am I going home?" I asked, looking up at him with a hopeful look on my face. He chuckled at me and shook his head.

"No, sweetheart. I happen to like you, so I guess we'll keep you around a little bit longer. Besides, I don't have an escort for tonight's party and I figured you'd do it. If you want." What's this? He is actually being a little polite to me. He is actually inquiring whether I wanted to or not.

"You're asking me?" I asked him, feeling a bit confused.

"You'd have to do it anyway, I was just trying to be polite." he confirmed with a shrug.

"I appreciate that. Yes, I'll do it." I agreed, mostly because I'd have to anyway.

"Yeah...that was a test, sweetheart. We should get along just great." he told me with a sly smirk on his face. I was about to speak again when I noticed 'Brian' coming towards us. I also knew him as 'Gates', 'Syn', and 'Synyster Gates' by now.

"What the fuck took so long? I thought I was gonna have to take this bitch to breakfast." he complained to Brian, roughly pushing me into Brian's arms. An ill look formed on my face once again.

"What do you want me to do with her?" Brian asked, gently pushing me away from him. He seemed as if he wanted to punch Shadows in the face, but he held back for many reasons that I didn't know about.

"Just find her a room. Preferably by herself. If not, put her with Lacey. I like this one, Syn. You and Johnny did good." he said, turning and walking swiftly away from us.

"Well, Halen. Apparently, you made quite the first impression." he said giving me a shit eating grin. I decided to ignore his smart ass ways.

"So...what do you prefer I call you? Brian, Syn, Gates, Synyster Gates, what?" I asked, looking up at him. He put his hand on my back as we walked through the over-sized hallways of the mansion. He gave me a strange look.

"Who the fuck told you my real name? I will fucking kill-" I cut him off before he said anymore.

"Shadows did." I replied, raising my eyebrows at him.

"Shadows?! That asshole!" I just shrugged as we continued walking.

"Well...Then you should know that his real name is Matt." he told me after a moment of silence. Huh, he looks like a Matt. We stopped in front of a black door.

"Did you have a good night last night?" He really cares about how my night went? Doubtfully.

"I haven't had a good night since I got kidnapped." I told him honestly, avoiding his gaze.

"Well I know someone who didn't get fucked last night." he said with a loud chuckle.

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?!?!"

"Nevermind." he told me as he took out a key and unlocked the black door. He pushed me roughly inside, almost making me trip in the process.

"You don't have to do that ya know. I was going to go in." I told him, looking behind me.

"Do whatever the fuck you want in here and someone will bring you your clothes later." he told me, shutting the door (and probably locking it) behind him as he left. Thankfully, I was in the room by myself (for now) and there was a tv. At least I won't be too bored. I flipped the television on to the music channel and decided to do some pushups and sit ups while I waited for them to bring me my clothes. It is important to me to stay in shape. That will be the one thing I can actually be in charge of now. I can't even decide when I want to eat or drink something, speaking of which, I am pretty thirsty. I was doing my pushups when I heard someone in the room clear their throat. I jumped and moved out of position to stand. I turned around to see Shadows standing there, still with his aviators on.

"You scared me. I didn't know you were in here." I said, pulling the shirt down further over my thighs.

"You work out?" he asked, ignoring my statement.

"Yeah. I always have." I told him with a shrug. By the looks of it, he does too. He didn't confirm my theory by mentioning it, instead, he changed the subject.

"Well, I figured you were hungry...I was kidding earlier, I'm going to take you to eat breakfast anyway." he told me, handing me a pair of plain blue jeans.

"Just put those on and we'll go eat." I nodded and took the jeans from him, quickly pulling them on.

"C'mon." he said, putting his hand on my lower back and walking me to the kitchen.

The kitchen was bright and it seemed happy. It made me feel like I hadn't been kidnapped and like I was on a date with someone new. Shadows wasn't rude in there, he was polite as ever.

"What do you want to eat?"

"Um...Well, what do you have?" I asked, looking around the room.

"Whatever the hell you want." he said, his smile genuine for the first time. He had dimples that were to die for. I couldn't help but to smile back at him. I only wish that I could see his eyes so that I could really see him. I can't read someone if I can't see their eyes. It is confusing.

"Blueberry pancakes." I answered, looking into his sunglasses.

"Hear that Grams? Halen wants blueberry pancakes, and I'll have the same." he told the elderly lady standing at the stove. She smiled brightly and nodded.

"Right away." she answered, getting to work. I smiled at the sweet looking lady.

"Is that your Grandma?" I asked, looking at him with a smile on my face. His smile faded away and he just nodded.

"Sit." he ordered me, pulling out a chair on the end of the table. He sat on the left side of me, staring down at his plate. To my surprise, he took his sunglasses off and placed them on the table beside of the plate. I looked up at him again so that I could try to memorize his face. I couldn't remember it earlier. His eyes were a hazel, almost golden, color.

"What?" he asked me when he noticed me staring.

"Sorry." I said, looking away. I couldn't open up to him and tell him why I had been staring. I was his prisoner and I was surprised that he was even being so considerate as to ask.

"So...what do you like to...do?" he asked, almost hesitating.

"Um...Why do you care?" I asked him in a polite way.

"Look, Halen, you are trying my patience here. I'm asking you because I am bored as hell and I don't like it when someone answers my question with another question. Just answer the damn question already." he told me, trying not to raise his voice.

"Shit...Okay..."

"I would appreciate it if you didn't curse, as well." he added, looking away.

"Sorry...Well, I like to work out- which you already know. I love almost every sport. I like movies..."

"What kind of movies do you like?"

"Horror, Comedy, Stoner films."

"Really? Have you ever seen Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas?" he asked me, seeming a bit interested in me now.

"It's one of my favorites...also, I like Nat-" I started to say, but I was interrupted by his grandma bringing us our food.

"Thank you Grams." he said with a sweet and loving smile to her. She just smiled sweetly and bent over the table, placing a kiss on his forehead. She walked away slowly back to the kitchen.

"She doesn't talk a lot, does she?" I asked, hoping to start another conversation.

"Not when other people are around." he answered shortly before digging into his pancakes. I did the same, savoring every bite, because I had a feeling that I wouldn't be treated this nicely every morning. I was distracted when someone else entered the kitchen. I expected to see Brian, but I was surprised when it was someone else. He wasn't exceptionally tall like Matt, he was a bit shorter, but a bit more chubby. He had short, black hair and bright green eyes. I couldn't help but to smile back happily when he gave me a million dollar smile.

"Mornin' Beulah! Get me some waffles, please!" he said as he saw Matt's grandma. She smiled and nodded at him.

"Woa, Shadows... Looks like you have a shiny new toy?" he asked, sitting down beside of me and in front of Shadows.

"Courtesy of Brian and Johnny." he answered, putting his sunglasses back on his face. He's gone again.

"Well, hello, I'm Zacky...You are?" he asked, shaking my hand.

"Halen." I answered with my best smile.

"Halen, you are beautiful. Matt, I am jealous."

"Fuck, man! No first name usage!" Matt complained, looking at me, he almost seemed scared.

"It's okay, I already knew your name anyway." I told Matt.

"Sorry, man... Everyone uses my first name! It doesn't matter, anyway." Zacky said with a shrug.

"It's cool... Who told you?" Matt asked, looking at me.

"Brian." I answered truthfully. There is no point in lying.

"I am going to beat the fuck out of that bastard." Matt said, shaking his head.

"You done?" he asked me, looking down at my plate. I still had half a pancake left, but I couldn't eat it anyway. I nodded, rubbing my belly. I was so full.

"Okay, c'mon. I'll walk you back to your room." I got up from the table and started to follow him.

"See you guys later. And I'm pretty sure we'll all be seeing a lot of you, Halen." He told me with a wink before we made it out of the kitchen. What's that supposed to mean? It didn't take Matt and I long to make it back to my bedroom. He stopped in front of the door and turned to look at me. He took his sunglasses off and looked me in the eyes.

"Look, I just want to go ahead and apologize for tonight. You're not going to like anything that happens at this party, but I'm sorry and it's not personal." he told me, placing a hand on my shoulder. My heart sunk and I was now afraid. What is going to happen at this party that Matt is apologizing for right now? It must be pretty bad if it is something Shadows is going to apologize for.
