The Only Thing I Ask

There were an infinite amount of people coming and going to this Reading Festival since early in the morning. Most of the bands performing here were British acts, such as MUSE, Arctic Monkeys, Oasis, Radiohead and so on. American bands like Avenged Sevenfold, My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy only performed a couple of songs as guests. Then they will have a few of interview sessions after that.

Michelle had always been a sucker for British rock bands so she was starstrucked. She basically shook everyone’s hands backstage. She met all the guys from MUSE, Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead and Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys. She took pictures with every one of them, and of course she persuaded Tona to be the photographer.

Tona didn’t mind at all, she liked being friends with the girlfriends of Avenged Sevenfold’s members. Considering she was one of them too.

“For God’s sake Michelle, get a hold of yourself! You’re the girlfriend of Synyster fucking Gates, the God of guitar. Why are you so jumpy around all of these?” Valerie complained, pointing to random British bands that walked pass them holding their instruments.

“Excuse me for being a fan girl. But didn’t you used to be the same with Matt? Oooh, M. Shadows is so fucking hot.. I want to grab his ass, I want to kiss him..oohh..” she mocked Valerie and even made an impression of her. Tona and Leana laughed. Valerie pouted and locked her arms across her chest.

“At least I got what I wanted.” She stuck a tongue at her sister and ignored her mockings.
“You guys are not like any other twins I’ve known.” Tona commented while casually snapping a picture of them fighting.
“We’re twins but we’re not twins. Get it?”
“Nn-no I don’t.”
Michelle opened her mouth to protest what her sister said before but was cut off when Matthew came from behind.

“Enjoying yourselves, ladies?”
“Totally, Matt. Especially Michelle.”
“Oh yeah, you told me before that you love British bands right? Any chance for American bands in your heart?” Matthew smiled sweetly at her, his dimple showing.
“Only your band, Matt.”
“Figured. Come and meet the guys backstage. I wanna introduce them to my fiancée over here.” He said while putting his large muscular arms around Valerie.
“The guys? Which guys?” Michelle asked while walking forward, following him from behind.
“The guys who will be touring with us later. My Chemical Romance.”

Michelle froze in her steps. Her mouth dropped, she was blank right there. She saw Leana who was holding Zoey stopped walking too. Valerie glanced at her but she was dragged along by Matthew so she couldn’t turn back.

“Hey, Chelle. You okay?”
Despite the loud music on stage right now, she can hear her soft voice clearly.
“I don’t wanna see him.”
Leana walked over to her slowly. Her hands holding Zoey’s head and patted behind her.
“Then don’t see him. Just ignore him. He might not remember you.”
Michelle looked into her eyes. “We’ve dated for three years, Lea. Three fucking years. How can he not remember me?”
“I don’t know, but for some reason I think you shouldn’t be worried. You have Brian now. He’s amazing and he’s great to you. You have nothing to be afraid of.”

Michelle sighed heavily, thanked God she brought this girl on their trip to England. Leana held out her hand and Michelle took it. Soon they both walked together towards the backstage.

“You guys are pretty good. I like Bat Country. Did you know that we’ve been competing for the number 1 spot in MTV for the past two weeks?”

Brian crossed his arms on his chest. “No. We didn’t. We’ve been touring Europe for almost three months now. Not a single fucking news. Even if there’s a press following us.”

“Oh well, Helena and Bat Country are tight right now. Wonder who will win in the end?”

Both Gerard Way and Brian laughed casually. Zacky and Johnny were having conversation with Ray Toro, the guitarist from MCR while Jimmy stood beside Brian, listening to their conversation. In his mind he was worried about Leana and Zoey. A single mom with a baby in a rock concert, anything could go wrong.

“Hey fellas, I want you guys to meet my fiancée.”
Matthew showed up a moment later with Valerie in his arms.
Gerard’s black eyelinered eyes bulged, he was eyeing Valerie from top to bottom.
“Wow, you look different!”
Valerie hadn’t met him before but she knew who he was.
“You know her?” Matthew asked curiously.
“How many years has it been? Five? Six?” Gerard completely ignored Matthew’s curiosity and continued walking over to Valerie. Matthew’s forehead frowned even more. He looked down to Valerie.
“I think it’s been six years already but look at you! Engaged and everything.”
“Val, I didn’t know you were acquainted with Gerard.”
“I-I’m not. We’ve never met before.”
“Wait, Val? You’re not-” Gerard’s words were stopped midway when he finally saw Michelle behind Valerie and Matthew, walking towards them along with a girl holding a baby.

“Michelle?” Now he was really confused. He didn’t know Michelle had twins. And he was even more surprised seeing the real Michelle in front of him.
“Gerard.”
“Wow, now I’m really confused. You have a twin sister?”
“Obviously.” She replied sarcastically. She was trying to restrict her choice of words towards him. Trying to be cold like Brian from the first day they met.
“Always a smart ass. You used to be excited when you see me. But now, icy. I like that even more. You’re single?”

Michelle opened her mouth to speak but suddenly Brian stood in front of her, towering over Gerard, with his back facing her, protectively.

“As a matter of fact, she’s not. She’s mine now.”

Gerard looked up to the tall Brian. He backed off a couple of steps away
“Okay Gates. Whatever you say. But later, baby, if you’re bored with this guy. I’m open. Ciao.”

Then all of MCR members went off to their own dressing room or something.

Michelle looked up to the back of Brian’s head. She prayed that he wouldn’t get mad. But Brian, instead of turning around and talked to her, he turned his head slightly towards her, and walked away from there.

“Wait, Brian!” Michelle chased him but only halfway because there were a lot of obstacles and barriers along the way. Amplifiers, cables, racks of clothes, backstage crews and what not, she can just watch his body vanished behind a wall.



“What the hell was that, Val? How did Michelle know Gerard?”
Meanwhile, Matthew was still confused and demanded answers from Valerie. She looked at him and all of the guys each. She looked at Leana last, because she already knew about this.

“Michelle dated him, for 3 years, 6 years ago.”

“HOLY SHIT.” All of them including Tona gasped. Valerie looked at Tona instantly, and Tona quickly made a gesture of zipping her mouth and putting and X mark towards her chest as a promise not to spread this news. She was working for a music magazine anyways, not some juicy gossip material.

“And…did Brian know about this?” Zacky asked.
“I dunno. By the looks of it, probably not.”
“Uh-oh. I smell trouble.” Johnny commented.

They all glanced at Jimmy who was holding Zoey and playing with her little feet. He just couldn’t part with that little girl. He stopped whatever he was doing when he realized they were all staring at him.

“What? Me again? I’m not a fucking love doctor!”

Matthew sighed heavily. “Now I gotta find that stubborn head. We’re going on stage for the next 15 minutes. I’ll see you guys on the side.”
