As I walked into the teacher's lounge I couldn't stop thinking about, Embree's situation. I knew that something had to be done, but it, really, wasn't any of my business. I felt that I needed to make it my business, before something really bad happened to Enbree. I knew that I wouldn't like that, at all. I made my way over to the table and sat down with some of the other teachers.

"So, how are you liking the first day?" Mrs. Clark asked me. I nodded.

"Not as bad as I thought it was gonna be." I replied, with a smile.

I knew that she was the councilor, and I was tempted to say something to her about it, but I felt, once again, that It wasn't my place. That, and I felt that she didn't need to talk to a councilor. I mean what could they do, that I couldn't?

I sat there and poked my fork around at the food in my plate. I couldn't stop thinking about her, and what she had been through. Then what I said to her, came to mind again. I was kinda hoping that she would come around and eventually get enough of it, and take me up on my offer.

I shook the thoughts from my head, as I started to realize that I may be developing feelings for her; one of my students. It wasn't right for me to feel the way that I did about her. I wanted her safe and away from the abuse that she dealt with at home.

I swallowed hard at the thought of her having to go home in, just a little bit. I didn't want her to have to go through that anymore, ever again. I knew there was something about her when I first saw her in my class earlier that day. She attracted me right away. My thoughts were broken when I was interrupted by my phone going off. I reached down and grabbed it from my pocket. it was a text message.

How's it goin, Mr. Baker?-E I smiled as I replied.

It's going good. You should be eating, Embree, not texting.-Zack I waited for her reply.
My phone went off again.

I'd much rather be having lunch with you.-E

We'll if I could get away with it I would bring you in here, so you could eat with me.-Zack

I'm talking about a real lunch. One away from school.-E

I looked at my phone with a confused look. It was obvious that she had a thing for me too.

This rested me to an extent. I didn't feel as bad. I smiled as I replied back to her message.

Is that so? Well, I suppose that we can work something out.-Zack

So it's a date then?-E

I pondered the thought of what she had just written. I knew I could get in serious trouble for this, and even lose my job. For some reason, that didn't matter to me. I knew that it was something that I wanted and that I had to do whatever I had to to get it.

Sure. We can maybe do something Saturday.-Zack

I wasn't sure about what I had just texted her. I wasn't sure if anyone would see us out on Saturday, or not, but I didn't really think that I cared. I wanted her safe, and I would do whatever I had to to make sure that happened.

Before I knew it lunch was already over, and most of my food was still on my plate. I realized that I had been more worried about her than eating. It was a waste to even thing about it anyway.

I made my way back into the lunch room. I scanned over the students, but only one jumped out at me. It was her. I saw her smile as I passed. I knew that if we were gonna have this thing, whatever it was, that we couldn't let anyone else know. It could only be me and her, and it would have to be out of school hours.

As we got back to the room, I stood by the door, making sure all the students were present. Embree, was the last one. I smiled as she pulled up the end.

"Miss James." I said as she entered. I reached out and brushed my heand against hers. She looked back and smiled, before walking to her desk. I pulled the door shut and walked to the front of the class.

I looked over at Embree, in a short daze. I knew that this would be the last time that I saw her today. It broke my heart to know that she had to go back to that. This took my energy and I sat down at the desk, allowing the kids to talk about whatever they wanted, as long as it dealt with music. I felt my phone vibrate against my leg. I reached down and grabbed it, sliding it open. It was her.

Hey, you ok?-E I looked over at her before replying.

I'll be fine. What time do you go home?-Zack

I'll leave at break.-E I sighed.

I need you to come by here before you go home.-Zack

I noticed as she looked up at me, with a smirk, then back down to her phone.

Sure. I'll be here.-E.

I smiled at the thought of getting to talk to her before she had to go home. I felt that she needed it and that it may do her some good to get a few things off her chest. I looked over and smile at her, before she turned and joined a group of friends.

The class dragged itself out and I finally heard the bell ring. All the students grabbed up their things and headed out the door. Everyone but Embree.

When everyone was gone she walked over to my desk and sat down on the edge of it, facing me.

"You wanted to see me? Of should I just text it?" she smiled.

"Yeah." I said as I walked around and sat down beside her. "There have been some things that I read in that note that have really been bothering me, and I want you to know that if you ever have anything that you need, you can come to me. I meant what I said. You're welcome to come stay with me if you need to." She smiled.

"That means alot. It really does." she stated. "Knowing that I have someone who wants to take care of me. I wouldn't want to be a bother though."

"You wouldn't be. Not at all." I put my arm around her shoulder, pulling her in for a small, side, hug, then letting go and returning to my original position. "I'm not gonna make you talk about it." She gave a weak smile, as I leaned in and kissed her, gently, on the forehead, before walking over to he board and erasing it.

"Well I better get going." she said, throwing her messenger bag over her shoulder and turning toward the door.

"Embree." I said, stopping her. She turned to me. I smiled.

"Remember. If there's anything at all that you ever need from me don't hesitate to give me a buzz." She smiled.

"Thanks, Zack." she said, as she walked up and pushed her lips against mine.

I sighed into the kiss before she pulled away, and continued toward the door. She stopped on the way out.

"Welcome to Georgia, Mr. Baker."
