Through Thick and Thin.

Chapter Fifteen.

When I woke up the next morning I groaned. “Oh my god, how much fucking wine did I drink last night?” I mumbled, pulling the covers over my head while Brian chuckled. “You and Leana polished off two bottles baby. You drank a good bit for a Monday night.” “Holy shit. Fuckin Leana is always getting me trashed.” I grumbled. “You don’t drink that much unless something is bothering you. Spill it B.” Brian said, rubbing my back. “I was just pissed off about the whole Jamie thing. That kid is such a creep. I can’t stand him.” “Yeah, that pisses me off. If he bothers you let me know, and well take care of it.” I rolled my eyes. “You guys can’t go beating up everyone that bothers me Bri. I mean I really appreciate you taking up for me. I love it actually, I love feeling protected, but come on babe, you guys could get into trouble.” I rambled, hearing him sigh. “Okay, you’re right. We’ll leave it alone for now. But if he tries to do something stupid I make no promises.” “If he does something stupid I give you permission to kick his ass.” I said, kissing his chest. “You guys going to the studio today?” “Yep, we’re going to meet there at 11.” Brian explained. “Okay, well how about I make you a nice big breakfast so you’ll be energized and ready to get to work.” I suggested, snuggling in closer to him. “Mmm, that sounds good baby. I’m going to hop in the shower while you cook.” he said, kissing my head. I climbed out of bed and grabbed a pair of sweats out of the drawer, throwing them on and putting my feet into my slippers. I walked downstairs and greeted Pinkly, who was patiently waiting for me at the back door. I let her out and got to work on breakfast. I decided to make blueberry muffins for the guys to snack on while they’re in the studio, and omelets for Brian and I. I got started on the omelets first, getting the veggies chopped and ready to be cooked. I threw the onion, mushrooms, and bell pepper into a skillet to sauté them then got to work on the muffins. I mixed the batter quickly and stuck them in the oven, and finished up the omelets. Brian was walking down the stairs as I was taking them out of the pan. “Man it smells amazing in here. Where did you learn to cook?” he asked, kissing my head. “I helped Lee in the kitchen a lot, and my mom taught me a lot of things. I love to cook.” I explained, pouring him a cup of coffee and orange juice for myself. We took our plates to the bar and sat down. “What are you going to do today baby?” “Well, I’m gonna clean the house some, and go see Lily and Val. I haven’t seen Val in days it seems.” “Yeah, Matt was saying that she missed spending time with you and Lil. You guys have been so busy in school.” “I think I’ll call her, and see if she wants to have a late lunch or something.” I said, thinking to myself. “That’s a good idea baby. Thanks for breakfast, I’ll do the dishes while you call Val.” Brian said, standing up to take our plates to the dishwasher. I grabbed my phone and dialed Val’s number. “Hellooooo?” Val sang into the phone. “Hello Mrs Valary Sanders.” I chuckled, “What’s up Bea?” “Not much, I was just calling to see if you wanted to go to lunch. I feel like I haven’t seen you in forever.” “Lunch sounds great!” she said excitedly, “I’ll pick you up at one. Love you!” “Love you too Val, see you then.” We disconnected and I chuckled to myself. “I guess she was excited about lunch?” Brian asked with a laugh. “Oh yeah, she always is.” “I gotta run baby girl, thanks for the muffins. I’ll see you tonight.” Brian said, wrapping his arms around my waist and kissing me passionately. “I love you Brooklyn Elizabeth.” “I love you too Bri.” I kissed his nose and squeezed him one more time before he released me and walked out of the house. I let Pinkly back inside and went to take a shower and get ready for lunch with Val.

Val rang the doorbell at exactly one, and I was rushing down the stairs to answer “Just a sec Val!” I shouted, trying to put my sandals and earrings on at the same time. I finally got them in and ran down the stairs to open the door. “Jeeze, what took you so long? I’m melting out here.” Val said, dramatically fanning herself. “Oh whatever, it’s not even that hot. You ready to go?” I asked, grabbing my purse out of the coat closet by the door. “Yep, I’m starving. Let’s get outta here.” We both got into her little car and she let the top down. I smiled, feeling the wind blow in my hair and silently praising myself for wearing a hat today. We sang along to the radio and goofed off until we reached our favorite restaurant, a little mom and pop place on the pier that served the best salads. “Yesss, I was craving a grilled chicken salad.” I grinned when we pulled up. We sat outside on the patio and ordered our lunch. A grilled chicken salad and cherry coke for me; Caesar salad and iced tea for Val. “So,” Val started after the waitress brought our drinks, “how’s school going? Matt told me about Creepy McCreeperson.” “Ugh. That freakin weirdo decided to go to UCI so he could ‘see me every day’” I said, using air quotes. “Brian and Jimmy are already trying to be my personal body guards on campus. It’s going to be a stressful semester. I can see lots of wine nights in my future.” I sighed. “Maybe it won’t be so bad. Hopefully he’ll get the hint and leave you alone. I really don’t want the guys to get into any kind of fight or bad situation.” Val said, playing with her straw. “That’s what I told Bri, he just won’t let it go. I mean I love that he wants to take up for me and protect me, but if he hits Jamie or does anything to him I know Jamie will go straight to the cops because he’s a little bitch.” I said angrily. “Whoa, easy girl, let’s change the subject before you punch a hole in the wall.” Val chuckled, “How’s it going living together?” “I love it, I love falling asleep with him every night and waking up with him every morning.” I said dreamily, “we get to spend a ton of time together now. He helps me do the dishes after dinner, and we can goof off and be as ridiculously cheesy as we want to because no one will see it but us.” “Aw, you guys are so damn cute. I can’t wait until you get married.” she said with a grin. “Whoa, hang on there Val. Who said anything about getting married?” “Oh no one, but it’s going to happen. I know it will.” I was going to say something sarcastic back, but our food arrived, and I was starving, so I dug right in. While we were eating we kept talking a little, and I decided that I was going to cook a really nice romantic dinner for Brian tonight, to show my appreciation for everything he does for me.

After lunch Val dropped me off at my place, and I browsed the internet for recipes. I decided on roasting a whole chicken with vegetables, steamed broccoli, and homemade mashed potatoes and gravy. I was going to bake his favorite cake for dessert, red velvet. I made a list of everything I needed to buy, and headed to the grocery store. While I was shopping I got a call from Brian. “Hey baby.” I answered, wandering through the store. “What are you doing beautiful?” “Oh just some grocery shopping, getting a few things for dinner.” “Really? What’s for dinner?” he asked, “I can’t tell you. What time are you going to be home?” “Probably around six, Matt wants to have a short day today since you and Lil have the day off.” he said happily. “Oh good. That’s perfect. I’m going to finish up my shopping, but I’ll definitely see you in a few hours. I love you babe.” “I love you too baby girl, be careful on your way home.” We disconnected and I smiled to myself. A romantic dinner is just what we need.

After I made it home from the grocery store I put the chicken in the oven and decided to take another shower. I made sure to shave my legs and lather on extra lotion so I smelled good. I threw my hair in hot rollers and walked downstairs to boil the potatoes and steam the broccoli. I basted the chicken then went back upstairs to finish my hair and makeup. I did the smoky eye look and slapped on some red lipstick. I quickly finished dinner and plated everything up, sticking the dishes in the oven on the warm setting. I ran back up the stairs, knowing Brian would be home soon, and pulled on my favorite dress, charcoal gray and strapless, and my hot pink heels. I grabbed my pearl necklace and earrings and put them on. I took the rollers out of my hair and pinned the front back, making a small poof. I smiled at myself in the mirror, pleased with my appearance. I walked downstairs and pulled a black tablecloth over our table, and placed candles all over it, leaving space for our two place settings and the food. I set the table and as I was lighting the candles Brian walked in the house. “Hey baby what smells so-” he stopped mid sentence, taking in my appearance and the candles on the table. “What’s all this?” he asked, pulling me into his arms. “Oh, you know, I just wanted to cook you a nice romantic dinner, to show you how much I love and appreciate you.” I said, wrapping my arms around his neck and pressing my lips to his. “Now go put on something nice while I get the food out of the oven.” “Yes mam.” he said, kissing my nose and releasing me. I smirked as I walked into the kitchen, making sure to add a little extra swing in my hips, “you look fucking amazing in that dress B.” he groaned, walking up the stairs to our room. I smiled to myself and took the food out of the oven, placing it on the table. Brian came back down in a pair of dark jeans and a dark red button down shirt. “You look good babe, let’s eat.” I said, kissing him.

Dinner was amazing. The food was good, the conversation was good, and the company was definitely good. “Thank you for doing all this baby, I love it.” he said, grabbing my hand. “You don’t have to thank me, I like doing things for you Bri.” “I know, but you went all out tonight. You even dressed up all beautifully. I’m going to have to take you out or something.” “You don’t have to take me out Brian, I love just being at home with you.” “Well, I’ll think of something to do.” he said, kissing my hand. “Come on, let’s get this stuff cleaned up, I don’t want to spend all night doing dishes.” I said, sticking my tongue out at him and carrying the plates into the kitchen. “I have a better idea,” he said, following behind me with a few bowls, “let’s leave this tonight, and I’ll clean it in the morning. I have better things to do with you tonight.” “Oh really?” I asked seductively, “and what might those things be?” “Well, I’d tell you,” he said, wrapping his arms around my waist and kissing up my neck, “but then I’d have to kill you, so I guess I’ll just show you instead.” He pushed me towards the stairs and up into our room, making me forget completely about the dirty kitchen downstairs.
