If We Ever Meet Again

Chapter Eighteen

A groan escaped my lips as my eyes fluttered open trying to get use to the sun-light peering in through the window. When my eyes had adjusted to the room I turned around to check the time on the alarm clock when I realized that the bed-side table looked nothing like mine and that the sheets on the bed were dark-green and not chocolate brown like we had in our bedroom.

I sat up and rubbed my eyes, inspecting the room. The walls were white but had a hint of green to the colors; the curtains were green as well. Where could I be? My head hurt and there was no doubt in my mind that I had the hangover from hell.

“What the..?” My eyes raked over my body just in case since panic had settled in and I really did not want this to be a one night stand thing. I was in my underwear, in an unfamiliar bed. Oh shit, what had I done. Heavy breaths set in as I jumped out of bed and saw some clothes lying on the bottom of the bed, so I quickly got dressed. It was a pair of jeans and a beige sweater with gold sequins on the shoulders of f it. Noticing a small decoration mirror I checked myself in it, straightening my hair a bit since it had a habit to get really big after I woke up. My make-up wasn’t smeared luckily, if any some of it had disappeared leaving me with mascara on my eyelashes and feeling very disgusting.

When I had gotten dressed I opened the bedroom door and leaned my head outside of the room, to see if I saw anyone or recognized anything. I didn’t though.
I walked through the narrow hallways until I reached a staircase which I managed to go down carefully considering my head was pounding. My ears perked up at the sound of hushed voices speaking and giggle cutting through every now and then. I followed the sounds until I reached the living room that was in soft beige colors and dark, wooden furniture.

My left hand traced one of the walls as I walked through the living room and entered the kitchen. I could see a blonde head and a buzzed one. They both turned at me as soon as I made my presence
known by saying ‘hi’ quietly.

“Hi! Did you sleep well?” Val asked me and I nodded, sending her a small smile. Matt brought a
coffee-cup to his lips and took a huge gulp of the steaming liquid. I swear to god he was addicted.

From what I knew Val told me that he always drank a cup of decaf before he went to bed since he was so addicted and he would feel antsy if he didn’t get his coffee before sleep.
I sat down on one of the bar stools that were circling the kitchen island. “So… uhm how did I get here?”

“I had to pick you up.” Matt’s gruff voice told me.

I made a face. “Why?”

“Well, first off you were drunk of you fucking ass and secondly Hank called me since he knew that I know you and well you begged him not to call Chris apparently. He obviously thought that you had one too many.” I groaned and laid my head on the counter, feeling my face heat up slightly.

I bit my lips. “Oh god, I’m so sorry. I’ve just not had the best time lately and needed to blow off some steam.”

“What’s been going on?” Val put her hand on mine and rubbed his soothingly as she looked at me; concern written all over her face. A coffee cup with hot, steamy coffee slid in, in front of me and I looked up and smiled at Matt as he gave me a nod.

I shook my head. “I don’t want to be more of a bother then I’ve already been.”

“Talk.” Val demanded.

I sighed and brought the coffee cup to my lips, slightly blowing on it.

“Well, it’s just…. Well in general Brian.”

Matt looked at me. “Brian?” He questioned.

“Yeah, what about Brian, Ash?” Val asked.

“Ever since I got back here he’s been doing nothing but to create trouble between me and Chris. He’s been acting so fucking weird, I just want to smack him in the head with something.” I squeezed the cup tighter. “He’s just so god damn confusing and he’s just ruining things between me and Chris.
Chris doesn’t trust me around him or Brian as the matter of fact and I can’t even convince him that nothing is going on between us. It just like, everything Brian does or says just keeps going under my or Chris skin. I don’t even know what his fucking problem is!”

Matt chuckled. “Calm down sweetie.”

“Val I can’t calm down. I’ve had it with Brian.”

Val’s face hardened. “What did Haner do?”

“I won’t care if your sister or anybody else besides Chris beat him to a black and blue pulp okay?”

“Okay?”

I inhaled deeply and kept my eyes on the coffee mug. “Well, Brian kissed me.”

“WHAT!” Matt’s voice boomed.

I sighed, not knowing how else they were going to react seeing as if it was possible steam would blow out of Matt’s ears. “He kissed me twice. The last time being at the barbeque where I thought he was
Chris so I kissed back for a while before I realized that it wasn’t him.”

“I’ll smack that pretty head of his into a wall.” Val threatened.

“Yeah, well Chris’s next in line because he just finished before we met y’all at the beach.”

Matt snorted. “Good of Chris because I seriously don’t get what the fucks up with Brian. Ever since you came back in town he’s been a whiny little bitch who just can’t stop his PMS’ing in the studio.”

I and Val gave him a look which made me realize that Val didn’t even know herself what was up with Brian. Now I wondered what Jimmy had meant yesterday about Brian being in love with me which confused me since three years ago he had the opportunity to sweep me off my feet but didn’t take it. Now he was being a ‘whiny little bitch’ towards the guys as well, all because of me? I really felt confused. Sure it kind of would add up since he had kissed me on more than one occasion but it still didn’t make up an excuse for him.

“Syn’s been moody and basically snapped at every little thing lately. When he’s on his fucking high horse and something goes wrong, he just lets the guitar fall to the floor and walks out of the room grumbling shit about… well you Ash.”

Val pinched the bridge of her nose. “I swear that man is so fucked up not even Jimmy would be considered strange compared to him.”

I playfully smacked her arm. “Don’t be dissin’ Goofy!” My horrible impression of a gangster act made them both laugh when I defended my Jimbo.

“In a way it basically makes sense because Jimmy’s been talking about him basically playing me and Michelle, then he kisses me and what you say Matt but I just still don’t get why!”

Matt stood up and placed his cup in the kitchen sink before he turned to me. “Look, just do your best to ignore him because you are not getting out of any of our barbeques or other events now that we finally have you back.”

I licked my lips. “Matt, I’ve got to go back to work in like a month and a half or something. Can’t quiet remember but soon...”

Val frowned but Matt smiled, his famous dimples popping out and his pearly white teeth appearing.

“Then we’ll just make the most of it.”

I grinned and finished my coffee before asking if I could get an aspirin since most of my headache had gone away but just in case. Now I was going home to Chris, talk things out and be mature about it, because I really didn’t want to lose him. Especially over the pompous things Brian did, because he was not worth it.
