If We Ever Meet Again

Chapter Fourteen

I was not sure to how I would have to act with Chris; sure last night we made up…tiredly I can add. I was barely awake as he came back home and I really wished that I was awake so that I could have seen his face when he told me it was something I shouldn’t worry about. He seemed so calm, like he had regretted his outburst which he shouldn’t, not according to me. It was just plain weird and I started feeling a bit suspicious since he was acting a bit too calm. He hadn’t even tried talking to me about yesterday and as soon as I would bring the subject up he would shut me up with a kiss or walk out of the room. It worried me.

“Babe?” I heard Chris ask as I pulled a black tank top over my head. My hair was a bit all over the place after I had pulled the tank top on so I smoothed it out as I walked down to the living room, being careful about the steps.

“Hmm?” I responded, too lazy to actually reply to him with a word. Chris sat down in the couch watching some ongoing baseball game between the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles. I barely knew anything about baseball, just a couple of teams thanks to Zacky’s obsession with the Anaheim Angels.

He looked over me, turning his head from the television. “What are we doing today?” I looked over at him, shrugging. It almost felt scary talking to him now, because he was being surprisingly calm and I was scared that if I said the wrong thing he would blow up or just grow an even odder behavior. So I had to watch my tongue until I found out why he was acting like nothing had happened.

“We haven’t gone to the beach the entire week and it seems pretty hot outside today… Wanna go swimming?” he asked me though his eyes were glued to the television as he followed every players move and grumbled cusses under his breath every now and then.

“Sure, just let me put on my bikini and grab my glasses” I responded whilst nodding then headed up the stairs feeling a bit nervous. It felt weird being all tense around Chris since he’s always been that one person that I could relax with and be myself to the fullest.

I walked into our bedroom that now was pretty much fully decorated in warm colors that made it feel cozy but yet spacious. It was mainly things that were in beige, brown and white, like a personal heaven and the bed was like sleeping on cloud nine.

I grabbed my purple bikini top that was draped and my black bottoms, and then I slipped on my flips flops and put my Ray Ban sunglasses on top of my head. Then I quickly put on my bikini, a pair of gray shorts over it all and a white, loose tank top.

When I got downstairs Chris was already waiting for me in a simple white t-shirt, swim trunks with Hawaiian flowers and with a pair of black flip flops.

“Ready?” he asked me with a nod and I told him yes. Before we left the house I grabbed one of my many caps from the top shelf in the hall and put it on. The heat was definitely on and the sun scorched me as soon as I walked outside. Luckily I had managed to pack a small bag containing things I would need like cellphone, wallet, sun lotion and two towels for the both of us.

I sucked in a deep breath of air, trying to cool down a bit from the shock of the heat outside. It was like a sauna outside unlike the other days when it was hot and you got sticky but now you felt as if you would melt to a pile of goo in seconds.

We decided to walk to the beach, since the car would probably take 10 minutes to cool down because of the heat and the leather interior was going to make us stick to the seats. The walk didn’t take that long since we lived relatively close to the beach, to me the air was tense and thick, you could cut it with a knife. I was just extremely nervous about what do say because once again he might take it wrong.

Chris and I had yet to speak about what happened last night and just felt like we needed closure even though he said he forgave me. I needed to know why he suddenly dropped the topic.

We arrived at the beach and as I expected it was pretty crowded, I guess everyone was feeling the effects of the heat wave and wanted to cool off in the salty water. A lot of people were placed near the water so it was pretty empty around the edges were most of the tree were that cast shadows. We decided to take a place under a huge palm tree that created a big enough shadow for the two of us.

Our towels were laid out on the sand next to each other and we removed almost every piece of clothing except our swimwear. I immediately went for my bag as I stripped off and grabbed the sun lotion, I didn’t want to get burned and I did easily if I was out in the sun for a long time. Also I had to get back to work in less than a month and half; I didn’t want to have blisters, irritated skin or just look pale as if my skin had been peeled off from being burned.

I smeared the cool lotion on my skin thoroughly then I realized that I had to do my back as well.

“Can you do my back?” I asked Chris, giving him the bottle and turned around so my back was facing him. His calloused yet rough hands started massaging in the lotion on my back and I couldn’t help but to release a low moan as he pressed on a soft spot. He chuckled as I blushed, hoping that nobody heard me.

I turned around when Chris told me I was all done. He leaned forward and cupped my face kissing me softly and gently. “Stop worrying okay?” He told me. I made a face at him showing that I really could not stop worrying about that.

“Can’t we at least talk about it? I don’t feel okay knowing that you all of the sudden are acting like nothing happened, that’s why I’m worrying.” I explained that to him, feeling a bit of relief wash over me as I finally told him what was going on in my head.

“Tonight then.” He told me. “No now. I’m sorry but I won’t wait and feel completely scared of what will happen all day. I feel on edge even talking to you because I’m freaked out.”

He groaned and tossed his head back, then turned to me and told me ‘okay’. “Where did you go last night?”

“I just drove around town. I needed to blow off some steam.” The answer was simple but I had a couple of more questions.

“But… could you just… forgive me?” I asked him as I bit my bottom lip and rolled my thumbs.

He sighed. “I thought about it as I drove around and I realized that you didn’t do anything wrong. That bastard cornered you and you couldn’t do anything…” he winced as he spoke the next words. “… Except kissing him back.”

I rubbed my eyes with my hand then drew them through my hair. It hurt knowing that I had hurt him and it had not even been my intention.

“I thought it was you and… god I’m so sorry Chris. I never meant for any of this to happen.” I cried out, feeling extremely guilty.

“It’s ok. I’m over it.” I gave him a look. “Fine, partly over it but I know it wasn’t your fault. I’ve taken care of that problem.”

I let it rest at that, hearing his tone and knowing that he didn’t want to talk about it anymore. Though I didn’t understand what he meant by ‘ I’ve taken care of that problem. ’. Maybe I was overthinking it but something didn’t sound right about that comment.

“Let’s go swim?” He asked and offered me his hand, helping me out of the sand where I’m sure my ass had molded its shape.

The water was cold in the beginning but it still made me feel better and less light headed because of the heat. I decided to swim out right away to get the annoying part of getting all wet done with. It was cooling and felt amazing as we swum next to each other. We had swum for about 10 minutes before we decided to take it easy where it was shallow.

As soon as we sat down at the shallow end the waves started splashing up against our bodies. Combined with the suns hot rays and the cooling water, it felt wonderful.

“Hey Ash, Chris” we heard a voice call out. We turned around and saw Johnny holding hands with Lacey, both dressed in swimwear.

I put a hand over my eyes to shield them from the sun. “Hey guys.”

“Come on, we’re all here.” Johnny requested, nudging his head to the direction were they all were settled.

I looked at Chris unsure. “Yeah sure, we’ll be right there.” He told them with a gruff voice. We got up and we laced our hands together, swinging them slightly back and forth as we walked behind the couple.

We arrived and all the guys along with their respective other greeted us with cheery ‘hey’s’. I looked over at all of them and smiled, waving my free hand at them. We sat down on an empty seat cover.
My eyes automatically landed on Brian’s because I felt him glare at me, like he usually did but this was in a more pissed off way. I noticed that he had a black eye on his right eye and my mind instantly went to Chris.

I leaned over to Chris and whispered. “What did you do?”

“I told you, I took care of the problem.”

Notes

Oh snap. Chris got some attitude.
