I Killed Them

A Different Kind of Greeting

Ellie

"Ellie! You're going to be late for work. Hurry the hell up." my dad yelled from downstairs. I sighed heavily, trying my hardest not to forget anything. It was my first day at a new job and the last thing I needed was to be late. It was not even like if it was something huge. I wasn't a lawyer or anything flashy like that. But working at an auto parts shop where I'm surrounded by men would prove to be a challenge and the last thing I wanted was to be given a bad name because of my gender.

I grabbed my cellphone, shoving it in my back pocket and ran out of my room, making sure I left a mess behind. I attempted to ignore my older sister's voice. Knowing her, she'd make me forget everything. I grabbed a donut my father had on his plate and kissed his cheek, running out the door and not bothering to say goodbye. I shoved the donut in my mouth as I opened the car door. I got in and drove as quickly as possible.

As I arrived I realized I wasn't alone. My boss pulled up beside me and shot me a quick smile. I shot it back awkwardly as I got out of my car, removing some of the sugar the donut had left of my lips and closing my car door. I attached my keys to my belt and started walking toward the shop.

"Ellie, I need to talk to you for a minute." my boss said. I turned slowly, trying not to look as if I was expecting it.

"Did I do something?" I asked, opening my eyes wide. He laughed, rubbing his tired eyes and looking at me once more. He placed a hand on my shoulder and looked down on me.

"I just want you to know that those guys in there are tough. They're not some high school jocks who smack your ass every now and then. I honestly would have never let a girl work here but since you're Tom's daughter, I'm gonna have to allow it."

"Oh, just because I'm Tom's daughter?"

"Well, you're my baby too," he laughed. He hugged me tightly, kissing my forehead.

"Don't worry, Joe. I won't dissapoint. And I'm not a girl anymore." I giggled.

Joe was like a second father to me. The fact that he was now my boss made me slightly nervous but at least I knew someone there. Joe helped raise me since my mother left when I was a baby. He was like an addition to the family. Sadly, I didn't really have time to check anyone out at the shop because it was my dad's idea that I work there. Since Joe's a mechanic, dad wanted me to learn from him so I can open my own shop someday. Not that I'm too into that stuff, but I loved cars and the pay was amazing.

"Alright, just don't expect any nice greetings when you walk in there. And wearing tight pants wasn't such a good idea." he pointed out. I felt small for a second and he walked in front of me, making his way into the shop. I snapped out of it, running towards the door and opening it.

A bell that was on the door made a noise, causing most heads to turn toward me. I hated those bells with such a passion. I felt like turning around and running but it was no use. I was a man in this place, as weird as it sounds. I would make them respect me.

"Guys, this is Ellie, she'll be working with us." Joe said.

"Damn." a tall, black haired guy said. His blue button up made him look like the ultimate cliche machanic. I rolled my eyes, looking at Joe who smiled at me.

"Hi." I said, not getting anything but stares.

"Alright guys, quit making love to her with your eyes and get back to work." I glarred at Joe when the words left his lips and made my way toward the back of a cashier.

"Hey, that's my spot." a guy said. I read his name tag and it said Brian. He breathed in my face, moving past me, brushing his body against mine.

"S-sorry."

"Come on, I'll help you." another guy said. He too had black hair but seemed a lot taller and slimmer.

"Thanks." I smiled.

"I'm Jimmy. Don't let these horny ass guys get to you. I'll smack em' around until they learn." he joked.

"Thanks," I laughed, "You have no idea how nervous I am." I whispered. The fact that it had just left my lips made me question how smart I was at that moment.

"Don't be. I started working here the same time Brian did. It's not a hard job. It's fun once you become part of the family." he smiled.

"Yeah, but you're not a chick."

"Oh babe, everyone's a chick when they start out here. You'll be a man in no time." he laughed. The guy who had shot me the "damn" rolled his eyes at Jimmy who proceeded to stick his tongue out, "Alright, so for today you're just gonna stack these oil thingies on the shelves. Tomorrow we'll start you off with the chashiering. And if you need anything, come to me. I'll check on you every once in a while."

"Thanks so much Jim."

"No problema, muchacha linda."

"So you're hitting on me too?" I laughed.

"You speak Spanish?"

"Only my first language."

"I mean, 'De nada'." he smiled and walked away.

The "damn" guy starred at me, looking at me up and down as I bent over to pick some more of the product up. I was trying my best to ignore him. The hardest part was how I would feel his looks on my skin. There was no was I was going to let those guys get to me.

I started stalking the "oil thingies" on the shelves and continued feeling his eyes on me. That creepy feeling never seemed to completely go away. I turned around when I felt a warm breath on my back. A minty smell came to my nose which brought goosebumps to my arms. It was Brian. He rubbed against me as if the shelves were close together.

I shrugged it off and continued my job. Great, two creeps, I thought to myself.

Well, I can relate to Ellie in the fact that I don't drink, so I got pretty tipsy after having just one bottle of whatever I drank once. Fun, fun.

Again, quite interesting. =)
