Animosity In The Ranks

Chapter 91

You stood in the back bedroom of the bus that you occupied for the tour and stared down at all the clothes that you had brought on tour, and even some you had acquired during it as well. Today seemed like a say something hat day, since you had no problem ripping off one of your favorite movies; To Wong Fu Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar. So you had the hat, a very large tan woven hat with a very large floppy brim that had a black cord going around the band of the hat and then down through to tie behind or in front of your neck. But the problem now was finding an outfit to go with it, which was turning out to be harder then you thought especially since your hair had neon green in it. This was one of those few times that you wished you had strawberry blonde hair or red, but alas black, white and neon green it was. Sighing you decided to go with a totally summer feel, slightly country that wouldn’t be too off set by your reigning glory of tattoos.

Running a quick shower you hopped in and hopped out, not needing much of a long one since you had just showered the night before. Blowing a raspberry at your slowly appearing reflection in the fogged mirror you set about getting yourself read from the neck up. Deciding to go softer than usual you only applied medium amount of black eyeliner and then went for tan, cream and bronze eye shadows. Face done, minus the Burt’s Bees chap stick in your bag, you once again made a silly face at yourself and went about figuring out what to do with your hair. Giant curling iron out you curled and dried your tri-colored bangs into a large perfect curl before lacquering them into place so they wouldn’t move. Deciding on a whim you set soft curls into your outrageous hair and before brushing them out you sprayed it ever so softly and then called yourself set.

With a silly grin you slipped on a pair of naked panty hose ever so slowly so as to get the solid black seam up the back straight as an arrow up the back of your legs. A skill you had perfected long ago after many frustrating attempts in front of a mirror. Panty hose on you slipped into a pair of black jean shorts that were so short that the pockets stuck out in front from underneath their frayed edges. The short shorts allowed for a good portion of your leg tattoos to be showcased through the naked panty hose. Next you slipped on a pale moss green peasant blouse that you had long ago modified by slicing open the sleeves from wrist to shoulder so your beautiful arm art could be seen by all. Last you clipped on a pair of black suspenders and slid into a pair of old cracked tan cowboy boots. Shoving all your essential needs into a your tan cloth sling back shoulder bag you called yourself and decided to face whatever the day brought.

Sliding your giant black sunglasses down onto your face you stepped out of the bus into the bright sunlight and exhaled. Crunching through the rocks you made your way towards the back of the bus line, towards the venue and all of your daily duties. So lost in your mission you nearly ran into somebody without realizing it.

“Oh, sorry,” you mumbled to a pair of black shoes before looking up from underneath your large brim.

“Hey,” you said softly, staring into a pair of bright green eyes that looked as confused as you felt.

“Hey,” was all Zacky replied, more like an exhaled breath then a reply. But then again your own greeting had been close to the same.

“Um,” was all you could muster, words seeming to fail you at the moment. You hated him, you reviled him. But after watching in on his world last night, even if only through a bus window and only for a short while, you couldn’t find it in yourself to be vicious. At least not now, the ball was in his court so to speak.

“Nice hat,” Zacky spoke, as if trying to fill the awkward silence between the two of you. It felt as if the world was waiting on what would be spoken between the two of you.

“I,” you started to speak but were cut off by a bellow a few buses down.

“Zacky! Zack-kay!”

The both of you turned towards the loud voice coming from a bus or two behind you, away from the venue. Seeing the caller you swallowed a frozen lump of a rock that seemed to have lodged itself in your throat. Jeph. And standing next to him was that new girl, his new girl, standing in nothing but a pair of boxers and an old button up shirt of Jeph’s that you recognized. Recognized as you had worn it a few times. Your stomach roiled like an angry sea and you started to feel nauseous. Zacky lifted his hand and waved to Jeph, telling him he’d see him in a minute. You let out a sigh as Zacky’s hand dropped back to his side and you could tell he was going to open his mouth to say something. Deciding to stop him before he did such a thing you lifted your chin high and stared him directly in the eye, blinking back tears that you wouldn’t allow to live within you anymore. He seemed to swallow his unspoken words at the determined look on your face. With a quick knock of your chin you walked past him and towards the venue, your strut saying there wasn’t a thing wrong in the world. And so help you god that was what you were going to convince everyone of.
-xXx-
“Kales. Kales. Kales Mae!” a voice shouted at you. You lifted your head from your plate of breakfast food that you had been playing with, pushing into tiny piles as it sat untouched.

“Huh?” you asked startled, looking up into blue highlights.

“I was wondering if you were trying your best at a statue or an anorexia patient,” Katie said with a smirk that proved she had been hanging out with your brother way too much.

“Sorry,” you mumbled barely audible over the sounds of the other people getting breakfast. Even if it was now eleven o’clock and not really breakfast time. But that’s what happened on tour. You were even surprised that this many people were up and about this early.

“What’s wrong?” Katie asked as she sat down beside you, a bagel and orange in one hand and a coffee in the other.

“Jeph,” was the only word that was able to slip from between your lips.

“Oh that’s it. That’s it!” Katie yelled angrily as she jumped up and slammed the table, causing your plate of food to bounce along the table. Startled you looked up at your friend with wide eyes, wondering if she was going to pull an Exorcist on you next.

“We’re going out damn it! That’s it! No boys. No tour. No freaking anything,” Katie exclaimed as you watched the metaphorical hair on her hackles raise up.

“Get up, we’re going to go find Cherise,” Katie demanded as she grabbed your hand and dragged you out of your chair and sent you stumbling after her.
-xXx-
“Seriously? I mean you don’t need me for anything? Aren’t you going to be short handed?” you asked Cherise, not believing the words she had spoken when Katie had stormed up to her and said she was kidnapping you for the day.

“Girl, Katie is going to be the one that’s going to be the hardest to replace around here. Sorry. We were just fine without you, we’ll do just fine with you gone for a day,” Cherise replied with a smile, before shooting Katie a knowing lift of the eyebrow.

“I’m already covered. Thank you Cherise. Let’s go Kales,” Katie said authoritatively, dragging you after her with no clue as to what was going on.

“Katie. Katie. Drill Sergeant Katie!” you yelled at her nearly sprinting backside. Which got her to stop in her tracks, causing you to nearly run into the back of her. But at least she stopped and turned to look at you.

“Where the fuck are we going?” you gasped, a smile playing at the corner of your mouth.

“First, a pedicure. Because I know what your toenails look like,” Katie replied with a rueful look down at your cowboy boot clad feet. You grimaced with her, you couldn’t remember the last time you had repainted them. At least they were clipped down!

“Then, well then we’re going out. Drinking. Possibly lots of it,” Katie said rather matter of factually.

“Katie! Drinking during the day? And lots of it? That’s it! You are officially banned from my brothers presence for the rest of eternity!” you scoffed at her jokingly.

“You should thank your brother. Ha!” Katie replied before turning back around and storming off, once again with you staggering in tow.
