Animosity In The Ranks

Chapter 107

“Ugh I can’t believe the humidity of this freaking coast! How the hell do people deal with it?” you asked as you leaned farther back into your cheap lawn chair and brought a cold beer up to your neck.

“I have no freaking clue Kales, no freaking clue,” Jimmy groaned in response from his very own cheap lawn chair.

You were sitting around a cheap kiddie pool from a local Wal-Mart some very nice roadie had run out and purchased for you. Whether or not that roadie may or may not have been a passed conquest of this tour was of little matter, but at least the kiddie pool he had brought back was of decent size. You had filled it from a hose on the outside of the venue and then pushed it back to the buses using a flatbed trolley. A lot of water had been lost in the process and more than a few people had sworn at you and Katie as the two of you had rushed by, giggling like fiends as your precious water splattered bystanders. You had made it back mostly still full and had simply refilled it with water from the bathroom, one cheap beach sand bucket at a time. Now you were soaking up the warming water as you tried to beat the humidity you were finding the east coast was known for. You had arranged cheap lawn chairs around the outside of the pool and you, Jimmy and Katie were currently dipping your feet and trying not to melt.

“Hand me another beer Kales?” Jimmy asked, his cold wet wash cloth still draped over his face but you had heard him just fine.

“Here,” you offered as you handed Jimmy a new beer from the cooler next to your chair.

You adjusted your bikini, as you had opted for as little clothing as was decently presentable to the outside world, before leaning back and pulling your giant floppy sun hat lower on your head for more protection. Your poor battery powered hand fan was going to get abused if this was the weather you were going to have to deal with. Florida had been awful and you could have sworn it was getting worse the farther you went up the coast.

“Oh come on now, at least it’s nice and sunny! We can sun bathe unlike in dreary Seattle!” Katie added cheerfully.

You pushed your over-sized sunglasses down your nose to stare at your newest best friend, out of the corner of your eye you caught Jimmy doing the same. You knew the both of you had matching incredulous looks on your faces. Katie was happily reclining in her lawn chair in the only patch of direct sun light where you had placed the pool soaking up the rays like it was the Californian coast. A shit eating grin plastered across her face as she sipped her Bacardi out of a horrible looking fake coconut thing.

“Girl I am as much a Cali girl as the next native Californian but you might be taking it a bit too far. Tone it down sunshine or we might leave you here!” you joked teasingly before going back to reclining, one cold beer to your neck and another opened and raised to your lips.

“Agreed! I mean have you seen the color of my skin?” Jimmy scoffed.

“Jimmy you are somehow the whitest person I know for living in California besides Kales Mae over there,” Katie offered with a shake of her head before sipping from her crazy straw.

“Here, here!” you called out and clinked beers with Jimmy.

“Does anyone know long before they need me to quit being a limp rag and be a rock star?” Jimmy groaned out from under his drying washcloth.

“Ugh, not for an hour or so,” you heard a deep voice sigh followed by the sound of another chair being dragged over to the pool and another pair of feet hit the water. Giant gorilla feet by the sound of the voice as it couldn't belong to anyone other than your brother.

“I swear I’m starting to freaking wilt in this shit,” another new voice added as a yet another chair joined your group and more feet found their way into the pool. “Have you seen my hair?” the voice asked in a semi concerned and panicked voice.

You cracked open an eye under your large sunglasses and looked at the size of the new group as Syn let out a happy sigh as he cracked open a beer and wiggled his toes in the water. His hair looked just fine, the big whiny baby.

“I think we should have gotten a larger pool Katie,” you offered as you looked at your friends.

“Or at least more chairs,” Katie offered as she looked over your shoulder.

Turning your head to follow her gaze you saw a slow bedraggled looking Johnny approaching your little impromptu pool party slash beat the humidity party.

“Oh hell I don’t need a chair,” Johnny sighed as he stepped over the edge of the pool and sat down directly in the middle of everyone’s feet, fully clothed. “Oh sweet baby Jesus this is just what the doctor ordered.”

Grinning you opened the cooler between you and Jimmy and got out another cold beer to hand to Johnny since he was currently the only one without a drink. Seemed Syn had helped himself and your brother to the cooler that had been on the other side of you as it was now sitting between the singer and guitarist.

“You know we look utterly pathetic right?” your brother asked after a few moments of blissful cooling silence.

“Oh who gives a shit!” Johnny answered as he readjusted his legs in the medium sized pool.

“Incoming! I brought ice!” a voice cackled out from behind your brother’s head.

You grinned, only one person in the entire world could sound like that and still be considered an adult, or human. And as if summoned Bert shot out from between the buses in fact carrying two very large bags of ice just like he had said.

“Bert love, we already have ice in our coolers. There isn't any room for more, let alone that much!” you exclaimed as he got to the edge of the pool and you got a good look at just how much ice he had really brought!

“Oh it’s not for the coolers. Timber!!!” Bert explained then bellowed before up ending the giant bags of ice into the pool itself right on top of an unsuspecting Johnny!

“Holy shrunken balls Batman! Shit!” Johnny called out as the ice rained down on him. He tried jumping out of the way, beer held high so as not to spill any of it, before failed as Bert just followed him with the remainder of the ice. And as it wasn't a very large pool Johnny didn't have a lot of options unless he got out.

“Why thank you for making space for me short shit,” Bert cooed as he batted his eyelashes in an exaggerated manner before stepping into the pool and into the small vacant space Johnny had made when he had moved to the edge. You had a feeling Bert had planned this just perfectly.

“Pffft, don’t you short shit me! You’re short too! Just like me!” Johnny pouted as he went back to nursing his beer.

“Well why of course. But it’s not my nickname now is it?” Bert asked evilly as he gave Johnny his best innocent look. Apparently it didn't work as Johnny dumped the remaining inch of beer on Bert’s head.

“Mmm, tasty!” Bert exclaimed happily as he licked around his face to get the dripping beer running down his head. Sighing you opened the cooler and got out more beer for the delinquents you called your friends.

“Has anyone seen…”

“Ah! Don’t even! Don’t ruin this!” you shouted, cutting off your brother before he got a chance to finish asking his question.

“Alright, alright. You still need to work on this whole growing up this Kales Mae. Because as much as I love you, and as much as you are my sister, over a decade is a long time to deal with this bullshit. You have to grow up someday,” your brother sighed as he shook his head disapprovingly.

“I am grown up, See, beer!” you announced in a fake cheery voice as you held up your beer and put it on display for your brother to see as if to prove your point.

“Kales,” you brother started to sigh.

“I said don’t Matty. This is my pool party and I will kick you out if you continue to try and ruin it.

“Fine!” your brother exclaimed, giving up at least for the moment it seemed.

“Hey, was told to remind you guys that you have a signing in 40 minutes or so,” a voice announced. You didn't bother to look up at who it was as the signing had nothing to do with you.

“Hey Kales Mae,” a smooth voice offered, definitely different from the first voice. Cracking your eyes open you peered at the person who had spoken to you, a grin taking a predatory place on your face.

“Well hello there Purdy,” you said back slowly as you admired the shirtless guitarist as he smiled at you. He really had been a good stress reliever a few days ago and was absolutely delicious to look at still.

“Thanks Jinxx,” your brother replied as the rest of the guys nodded at the two band members of Black Veil Brides before they continued on.

“Kales?” you heard Syn ask in a knowing way. You turned to look at him to see him giving you a look before giving him your best innocent look.

“What?” you asked innocently as if you hadn't a single idea of what he could possibly be referring to.

“Oh good god woman!” your brother exasperated before throwing his head back in his chair and scoffing in disgust, his hands up in the air in a manner of defeat.

“At least our roadies are being spared. At the moment that is,” Bert said, the last part added as he shot you a look that you guessed was his version of menacing.

“For now,” you chuckled evilly.
