(Brian POV)
The guys were all at Matt's house, Most of them opening their first beer. Dinner was being cooked by Valary. Matt talking to the guys. Johnny drinking, along with Jimmy. I was channel surfing with Zack. I stopped to watch this retarded show on MTV. My phone went off, I got it out, Unknown number? I got up and answered it looking outside where it was pouring down rain. Cali could use rain though. "Hello?"
"Hello. Is this Brain Haner?" A famale voice asked over the phone.
"Uh, yes. Who is this?" I asked, confused. How did someone get my number.
"My name is Julia. I work for Huntington Beach Hospital. I was calling to ask if you knew Rose Baker?" I froze at her question. Rose. I cleared my throat.
"Rose Baker was an old friend. She uh, ran away when she was seventeen. We haven't seen her since. Why do you ask?" I paused. It was odd speaking of my ex. I haven't had too since everyone knew not to bring her up. "She's been in a car crash." The voice over the phone said. I froze.
"In her purse was a couple of numbers, one of them being yours, I don't know how she got your number sir. I know your in a band. But it was the first number I decided to call. I just called to figure out if you were family or if you have any connections to her family." Julia finsihed
"I- uh I have her older brother in the other room." I said, stammering. "Could you please put him on the phone?" She asked. I replied and yes and called Zack's name.
"Sup?" He asked walking to me.
"You might want to sit down but it's for you." I held out my phone to him and he grabbed it.
Rose. Rose Baker. Was in Huntington Beach? 'In the hospital.' I thought. As soon as that thought finished I grabbed my leather jacket and the keys to my car.
"Brian? Where are you going?" Valary asked.
"The hospital." I said, storming to the door. Zacky hung up the phone and grabbed his jacket near the door. He handed me my phone. "You coming?" I asked. He nodded, his eyes sort of distant. He exited the house and I followed. The group asking us questions.
'Rose had been gone since she was 17. Now she was about 23. I was 25. She left in 2000. It's 2006 now.' I thought out the math in my head. 'Rose has been gone for six years. And when she decides to show up, we find out she's in the hospital. Fan-freaking-tastic.' I sighed at the thoughts in my head and drove Zack and I to the hopital.
