A little piece of heaven

Chapter 1

Erin sighed as she headed out to the job that she loathed, in a local supermarket, she worked afternoons and nights because she studied during the day, she locked the door to her flat behind her and pulled up the tatty fur-lined hood of her parka before stepping from the porch into the typical rainy English weather. She spent the entire day at work stacking the shelves while her mind was occupied with fantasies of doing a job she actually enjoyed, she ran over little scenarios in her head of her interviewing some of her favourite bands and celebs, asking them the questions that were on everyone's lips. Erin was studying Music Journalism, she really wanted to be an interviewer and eventually a TV presenter, she thought the best way to get into that field would be to interview a whole load of bands and musicians and work her way up.
Erin was 21, 5ft 7”, slim build but had curves in all the right places, she had big hazel eyes and long wavy blonde hair which was always accented with a bandana over it. As part of her degree she had to go to local music concerts/gigs in pubs and bars in her city (Newcastle, England) and sometimes she even got to review bigger, more well known bands. Her favourite genres were Rock and Metal and they always had been, she loved the fact that she was getting a degree out of going to gigs for free and getting to write about how much of an awesome time she had. This weekend, one of Erin's favourite bands were playing a show in Newcastle, she'd begged her tutour at uni to let her cover the gig and after weeks of persuading he had finally agreed, he'd arranged for her to see the show in aid to review it and then get a 10 minute interview with the band. Awesome. She wasn't nervous to meet them and speak to them just yet, she knew she had to act professional and play it cool despite the fact her internal fangirl would be wanting to burst out and scream.
Erin finished her shift at 5pm, she got home at 5:15 which gave her 2 hours and 15 minutes to get ready and get to the show. Holy shit. She took a quick shower, grabbed a snack and began the tedious chore of doing her hair and make-up, not that she minded, she listened to Metallica and casually sang along to some Motley Crue while curling her long blonde hair and re-applying her statement bandana. She put on a pair of extremely tight high waisted jeans and a grungy crop top, threw on her trusty parka and finished it with a pair of Vans boat shoes. She called a Taxi and waited for it to come and pick her up, she paced her living room reading over the list of questions she had prepared for her brief interview, making last minute amendments and reciting the questions aloud from memory. She heard the familiar toot of a car's horn which signalled her taxi had arrived to collect her. She made her way outside, locked her door and got in the passenger side. “So, where you heading pet?” The driver enquired. “Oh.. erm the O2 Academy in town please” Erin replied with a friendly smile. The journey to the gig venue was about 25 minutes, during which Erin and the Taxi driver made casual small talk “So been busy today? What time you on 'til?” just generic Taxi Driver and Passenger small talk.
The taxi pulled up at the back entrance to the venue, the driver parked beside the tour bus and stopped the meter, Erin paid the driver and let out a nervous breath before thanking him and stepping out of the car. “Here we go then...” she said to herself, she showed her 'Press' badge to the obscurely large doormen and they ushered her in where a man called Steve greeted her and showed her where she was to stand during the show and informed her that someone would collect her from there after the show and take her back stage where she would perform her brief interview. Now the nerves were starting to kick in, she felt the heat rise in her face, luckily her spot in which she was given to stand was at the bar about 3 metres away from the stage, facing the right of the stage. She sat her clipboard on the bar and ordered a bottle of Magners, something with a bit of alcohol but nothing that would leave her in no state to conduct an interview. She then watched people pile in to the venue, it was almost time.
