Cat’s POV
Brian took my hand pulling me up off the floor. I looked over beside us where Marco’s lifeless body lay; his head somewhere down the hallway..
“We need to get this out of here.” He said, picking up the body and throwing it over his shoulder.
I gagged at the sight of the spot on his shoulders where his head used to be. We walked a little further down the hallway to find the head facing away from us. Brian grabbed it and we walked on.
“Stay with me.” He whispered.
“Won’t they come after us?” I questioned.
“I’m expecting that, that’s why you need to stay with me”
He walked fast and I struggled to keep up with him.
“Why haven’t they found us yet?” I whispered, as we continued down the winding hallways.
I had no idea this house was this big.
“They don’t know this house as well as I do.” He explained.
We came to a stop at the end of the hallway in front of a wall. He reached over under a large antique vase on a pedestal hitting something. The wall in front of us moved to the side revealing an even longer hallway. I looked behind us to check if anyone was coming.
“Come on. We need to move.”
He led the way down the dark path; the wall closing behind us, cutting off most of the light. We took a right down another tunnel.
“Where are we going?”
“Shhhhhh.” He hissed.
I could barely see anything. It was cold and damp. We must be underground somewhere, I decided. Holding onto the wall trying to feel my way, I could hear Brian’s footsteps in front of me a little ways.
“Keep up.” I heard him say.
I tried to walk a little faster, hoping I wasn’t going to fall flat on my face. Finally, I heard his footsteps slow. The moonlight poured in the dark space and I followed Brian up some stairs. We were in the backyard. He glanced around looking for any guards that might be lurking. I guess it was clear because he walked a little further to a group of trees tossing the body like a rag doll to the ground. I jumped and held onto Brian as I heard footsteps closing in on us. He protectively pushed me behind him. Still holding onto him tightly, I looked over his shoulder. I breathed a sigh of relief. It was Mikey.
“Brian, man, what the fuck happened?!” he exclaimed.
“Hey cat.
“Hey.” I muttered.
“What is going on in there?” Brian asked him.
“From what I gathered, they’re planning on killing us all.”
“What the hell have they been waiting on?”
“I don’t know. I guess they want to give us a chance to change our minds?”
“Fat chance of that.” Brian snorted.
“He wants Cat to change her mind. She’s the only one he wants really. He doesn’t need us.”
“Where’s Sam?” I questioned.
“She’s ok. Matt took her into the woods.”
“How did Matt get out? And where are the others?”
“Matt found a passage way underground somewhere. I told him to take her and I’d try and find you. The others escaped with him. We killed at least fifteen of them on our way out.”
“Does he know?”
“Probably.”
Doors opened in the back of the house. Exiting where many men, who I assumed where guards of my grandfather’s.
“Come one, we need to get out of here.” Brian urged.
Pulling out a lighter, he handed it to me.
“Will you do the honors?” he smirked.
I took the lighter from his hand, opening it and watching the flame ignite. Without a second thought I threw it onto the body, setting it on fire. I chuckled a little, trying to hide my smile. That made me feel a little better.
Brian took my hand and smiled at me and then the three of us where off to the woods.
