The Ugly Side of Me Is Strong

Chapter 1

I kept walking despite Brian yelling behind me to stop. I couldn’t go back. Not after had he just told me about my grandfather and his little business. From what my mom told me, he wasn’t a very nice man. He beat my grandma up until the time he disappeared. My mom said he only hit her and my aunt a few times, but a few times was enough. When he suddenly disappeared when I was very young, my family was hurt but also very relieved. All I ever remember of him was yelling at my mom when he and my grandma came to our house about how she needed to get my dad back and stop being lazy and get a better job. I always steered clear of him.
I was far away from my apartment. I didn’t care. I need to time to think. What was I thinking? I could never be with Brian. I was human. It would never work anyway. All this feelings welled up inside me. Confusion, fear, anger. My eyes filled with tears. I also felt lose. Lose of him…he was an asshole, sure, but I wanted to get to know him more. I didn’t want to admit it to myself at the time but I really enjoyed his company.
I finally made it back to my apartment. I was so tired. My legs ached and my dogs were barking. I peeled off my clothes and went to the shower. There was a knock at my door. I huffed and quickly walked to the door swing it open violently.
“Brian, I…” I began.
It was Johnny, Brian’s friend.
“Oh.”
He smiled and stepped in the door.
“What are you doing here?” I questioned as I shut the door.
“Brian sent me to make sure you got home.” He explained.
“Well, I’m here.”
“You didn’t want you to go you know.”
I sat down at the kitchen table and he followed.
“I had to leave. I didn’t need to be there anymore.”
We were silent for a moment.
“He wants you to come back.”
“I can’t.”
“Why?”
“Because…because I just can’t.”
“Why not?”
“Because I can’t be around him anymore.”
“Why?”
“What are you, four?”
He chuckled lightly.
“No, I’m 96 actually.”
I rolled my eyes.
“What did he send you here to tell me?”
“Nothing. He just sent me here to see if you got home ok.”
I raised an eyebrow.
“Scout’s honor.” He smile, holding his hand over his heart.
We were quiet again until he said something that caught me off guard.
“He really likes you, you know.”
I just starred at him and a smile crept up in the corner of my mouth.
“No, he doesn’t. He used me for my blood.”
“It’s not just that.”
“Sex then? I never had sex with him. He tried, though.” I explained, slightly blushing at the memory of Brian throwing himself at me ran through my mind.
“He marked you right?”
I nodded, rolling my eyes.
“Well, it wasn’t just a blood and sex thing. He saw something about you he liked and he wanted to know more.”
“Did you tell you that?”
“No, but it wasn’t hard to tell. You made me happy. We all saw that.”
I shook my head.
“Look, believe what you want to believe but I’m being honest with you. Brian cares about you and he wants you to come back.”
I looked at him.
“I…just can’t right now. I need time to think.”
He stood up for the table and opened the door. He stopped to look at me.
“Just do us all a favor and stay away from your grandfather.”
And he was gone.
I had no idea what to do now.
