A Little Piece Of Heaven

Orphanage? I…I couldn’t. I’ve heard the stories. How bad they treat the kids. The investigator spoke. ”The police will take you to get some of your things.” He got up and left. Leaving me in otter shock. I knew it was a mistake…running away I mean. At least then I had a house. Now I have to go and live with people I don’t know. I probably won’t even get adopted. No one wants me. I left the small room and sat on the bench out in the hallway waiting for the cop to take me to get my things. I sat there with my knees to my chest. I don’t know how long I sat there. It felt like a while. I don’t like being in my own head that long. I felt someone sit next to me. I look up to see Zacky sitting next to me, the others crowded around. “Hey you okay?” Matt spoke. His voice gentle and calm. I spoke. “Yeah, I’m fine.” “What’s going to happen now?” Jimmy asked quietly. I looked up at them. “ I am going to an orphanage.” It was silent for a while, and very awkward. Johnny spoke, breaking the silence. “Which one? There are a few around here.” “I shrugged my shoulders. “I really have no idea.” Zacky went to say something, but a cop came up. “Phoenix Hope?” I stood up. “Alright, I am Steve I will take you to get some of your things then take you to Life Strong orphanage.” “Oh, okay. Thanks.” I spoke softly. I went to follow Steve when the boys gave me a group hug. I was trying so hard not to cry. I broke off hearing a mixtures of “Bye Phe”, “We’ll miss you.” I followed Steve through the hallway to a door. He opened it for me. The sun was bright. I squinted and followed Steve to his squad car. I got in and put my seat belt on. “What is your address Ms. Hope?” I gave him it and we punched it into his GPS. My home was a little distant from here. I soon remembered how in bad shape our house was the broken bottles, smell of beer and smoke, the nasty furniture. We arrived at the house sooner than I wanted. Hell, I didn’t even want to go back. Steve spoke. “Alright, you can go get the things you MOST need. Besides clothes, any clothes you need take. But only the most valuable things.” I nodded and got out of the car approaching the house. I jiggled the handle so it would open.
