The Undead

Everthing Is The Same

After days of stopping to refuel the cars and just to eat and sleep, we finally reached California and it woudn't be too long until we reach Huntington Beach and I don't plan on stopping this car. I weaved through the stalled cars on the interstate and the highways until I reach Huntington. Everything looked so dead and abandoned. I took the fimilar street to my home and seen the house in minutes. It still looked the same as it did before we left. I pulled into the drive with the others right behind me and I turned off the engine.

"Wow this house is huge!"

"Thanks Dakota..." I said smiling at her in the rearview mirror. I got out of the truck grabbing the machine gun from the bed and meeting up with everyone behind my truck.

"So this is your home?" John asked as he looked over our huge family mansion.

"It was for a very long time."

"So what do we do now?" Felicity asked leaning on my truck.

"Dante, John, Mike and I will check around the property and Matt if you take the others into the house and look over it, I would really appreciate it."

"Sure thing." He said smiling and showing his dimples. I smiled back and my group followed me around the house. I had my machine gun cocked and ready just in case I needed to use it. We went over the whole property and there was nothing of a threat to us so we went back to the house. I went into the house and everything was still in its original place. I couldn't believe someone hadn't come in here and tried to take something. The house was completely untouched. I went into the living room and seen the picture we had taken at the beach. Mom and dad were happy and so were Felicity and I. I picked up the picture and gently wiped the dust off of it before setting back in its place. The couch was still in the same place in front of the TV. The house...it was still alive and felt like home after being gone all these years.

"Serenity?" I turned and seen Felicity standing in the doorway.

"What is it?" I asked going over to her.

"I found the generator in the back of the house and I think we could get it running."

"I'll take a look at it." I said as we left and went out the back door. I bent down next to the small generator we had installed in case there was no power for some reason. I checked the gas in it and it was bone dry so I checked everything else and it looked as if i should just start right up after I get some gas in it.

"Get the jug of gas from the truck." I said as I tightened up one of the wires. Felicity came back out with the jug and I filled it halfway just to see if it would start or not. I put the cap back on it and pulled the cord and it cranked right up and the lights came on in the house. I smiled and I took the gas back into the house with Felicity right behind me.

"Let's get the rest of the stuff into the house and load of that fridge with the meat." I said as we walked through the house. Felicity called for the others and we all pitched in and brung our things into the house. I showed everyone where they would be staying and put at least 3 guns and plenty of ammo in each room for them. I opened the door to my room and seen it was untouched. I went over to my balcony and opened the doors and it had a good few of the back yard. I always loved coming out here and feeling the salty air brushing through my hair at night. I decided I would set my Machine Gun up near the door that way I would have some good shots in case a pack was to come or even a few Strays. I unpacked my things into my closet and left my room. I walked down the stairs and into the kitchen where Felicity was fixing to start on cooking dinner. It had ben quite a while since we all had eaten.

After we ate dinner, Dante, John, and Mike took the first watch for the night so I could get some sleep but of course I didn't get any. I laid in my bed remembering the day Felicity and I had to leave here...

I sat in the living room watching TV just as it got dark while mom and dad were in the kitchen. Felicity was up in her room doing whatever she does alone and there was nothing interesting on TV today. I got up and went into the kitchen and filled me a glass full of water and drank it down.

"Good night mom and dad." I said happliy as I hugged them bother before leaving and going up the staircase and into my room. I laid down in bed forgetting a shower until tomorrow.

I was woken by mom busting into my room and throwing clothes into a bag.

"What's going on?" I asked rubbing my tired eyes.

"You have to get Felicity out of here."

"Why? What's going on mom?" I asked getting out of bed and going oer to her.

"Please...the epidemic has come to Huntington and you need to take your sister to safety until we come for you."

"I don't want to leave!" I said almost begging her.

"Just do as I say and get her out of here!" She placed the bag in my hands and literally drug me downstairs where Felicity was begging dad not to make us leave. Mom pushed us out the back door as gun shots rang into my ears.

"Please go you two! Run as fast as you can and don't come back until we come for you." I didn't understand but I grabbed my sister's hand and pulled her into the woods behind the house as the gun shots continued to echo through the atmosphere. We stopped dad in our tracks as we heard screams and I looked back to the house and wanted so bad to go back and help them but I knew I couldn't leave my sister here so I kept pulling her as we ran for our lives.

It felt like yesterday when we had to leave our parents behind...but in cold hard reality its been years. I wished this epidemic had never happened. Who knows if my parents are still alive or not. What if the dead got to my parents and they're now dead? Would I be able to pull the trigger if they were one of the dead or would I stand there frozen with fright and let them turn me? Who knows what will happen but I need to focus on what to do to make this home safe. I need to come up with some kind of idea to keep them held off long enough to shoot the hell out of them and kill as many as we can. I'm sure I'll think of some helpful way like I did with our other home.
