Our Own Piece Of Heaven

Memories

‘Where was I?’

I woke lying in… My head was pounding, but I think I was lying on grass…

What the actual fuck?

“What the he—” I muttered but got cut by some faded yelling and my head turned around to where it came from. I stood up and I walked through the bushes until a girl pass me by running towards the lake

“Daddy!! Mommy!!” she yelled overly excited “I wanna see the duckies!”

She had blond hair, pulled into this little cute and short braids, a beautiful smile in her face and green/gray eyes that looked amazing with her pale skin. She was such a cute kid and I couldn’t help but smile

“Calm down, mushroom” a woman with blond hair, just as the little girl, brown eyes and maybe just starting her 30's said

My eyes widened

“What— ”

“Baby, the duckies are not going anywhere” A male voice spoke “And we have the whole day to feed them” he then kissed the blond woman

“Ew! No tisses” the little 5 year old girl said, cringing her face in disgust

“C’mon here, you little princess” the male, who I asumed was her dad stopped and smiled warmly at the little girl, opening his arms and she run into them, he picked her up, tickling her on the sides “I love you” he said ruffling her hair while the girl giggled “Both of you my gorgeous princess” he then kissed the blond woman lips once more.

. . .

“Mommy?” a little 10 year old spoke

I was now in a different scenario, I was in a huge bedroom with beige walls, a bed to match the size of the room and there were different machines everywhere.

“Yeah, what is it, sweetie?” the same blond woman from before asked from her bed, she was looking very ill, she was coughing a little and her eyes were surrounded by light purple circles.

“I was looking for daddy, but he is sleep in his office with a bottle of apple juice and I—” she walked to her mother

“Apple juice?” she raised an eyebrow at her daughter

“Yeah, I saw him drink the other day that and I asked him what it was and he told me it was apple juice for grown ups!” the little girl giggled

“Oh…” she said, acknowledging what I knew perfectly, but of course she wasn’t going to say to her 10 year old daughter, that her daddy was drunk

“Mommy are you sick?” she asked looking at her mom

“C’mon here, baby” she patted the empty space in her bed “You know how much I love you?”

“Infinitive multiplied by infinitive?” she asked naively and her mom stroked her hair before kissing the top of her head

“Yes, infinitive multiplied by infinitive” she smiled “And yes baby, I’m sick”

“Why don’t you take frutie pebbles medicine?” the girl asked her mother “That always makes me feel better”

She smiled again and said “Because, baby, mommy has something that frutie pebbles can’t cure”

“But you’re going to be okay, right?” she asked with her eyes looking at her mom

She took a deep breath, while the 10 year old girl just kept looking at her mother with lost eyes “What do you have there?” she asked, changing the subject

“Oh!” the girl said cheerfully “Nightmare Before Christmas!”

“You wanna see it now?” she asked, smiling softly at her daughter while she nodded quickly

She jumped out of bed and she was about to play it, when her dad came through the door “Wow! What are you doing here, princess?” he asked, picking her daughter up in his arms “Your mommy needs to rest”

“I’m fine, baby” his wife said “I wanna be with Gaby”

“No, you’re not” he insisted, putting the girl down on the floor “You need to rest, go to your room now, Gaby” he was now next to her bed and she was pleading with him

“But daddy—” she pouted

“Gaby, go now” her dad said again “I’ll watch it later with you” her mom added

She looked bummed because she was looking forward to see it with her mother, but she listened to her dad... While I saw how the 10 year old girl, went to her room, I went to hear the discution that came from the bedroom

“Gabrielle, you need to rest” his husband said

“I haven't saw my daughter in days, Adrian” she said “I wanna be with her!”

“YOU NEED TO FUCKING REST!” he yelled and the blond woman sighed

“I'll watch it with her, you don't understand that the most important here is you” he said

“No!” she sounded surprised “It's my daughter, OUR daughter”

“Not right now” he muttered

“I can't believe what you're saying” she gasped “It's your daughter, that little girl doesn't know anything and she will only have you”

“Stop saying that, babe” he cooed “You will be here, for her”

“I will not!” she cried “And you don't seem to understand, cause you don't even give a shit about our baby”

“You're my baby!” he replied

“And what about your daughter?” she muttered loud enough for him to hear

Silence, that was his answer

“That's what I though” she huffed

“Gabrielle—”

“GET OUT!” she yelled as loud as she could “NOW!”

His husband stormed out the bedroom and next thing, out of the house

I saw how the scene slowly dripped into black, my eyes were hurting from seeing that...

Why?

. . .

The rain was pouring, and everyone was holding black umbrellas, wearing black clothes, everyone had a serious look, looking down at the casket in the middle and the flowers arrangements that were on both sides of it, along with a picture of the blond woman covered by a long lace that read ‘In memory of Gabrielle Elizabeth Phoenix – Beloved Mother, Wife, And Friend’

The little girl's mother was dead and she was now 12 year old and she was numb, she now understood that her mother had cancer with metastasis in brain and liver. She had a couple of years and she spend them on hospitals, and whenever she wasn’t at hospital, she was with her daughter, she even barely see her husband, because his drinking was more daily and sometimes he didn’t even came home.

When the doctors said she was dying in 6 months. He lose it, she tried to make her husband understand that he needed to take care of their daughter, but he just couldn't, he wanted to keep her wife here, he only seemed to care for his wife, he wanted to do everything possible, and the little girl… well she couldn’t do anything.

She watched how everything in her life seemed to be crumbling down, and she was only 12 years old.

Every person in there came down to her to give her their sympathy and she was just nodding holding her stuffed bear that her mom gave her when she was 7, not knowing what to do that to cling to the stuffed animal, her dad was on the other side, not making eye contact with her, he could barely stand seeing her. He wasn't very found of her right now. She was confused, she didn’t knew what she had done to deserve to lose her mom and gain her dad's hate... But maybe he was just sad and then he would tell her that everything was going to be ok.

Because everything was going to be better, right?

. . .

“It never happened” I stated, while I was siting in a the park, in Hungtinton Beach park, especifically wearing the same clothes I was wearing the last time I was with Jimmy

“What?”

“The day when my dad got better, it just got worse” I said

“I know, I’m sorry, baby”

“It’s okay, mom” I said looking at the blond woman, who was dressed in a light grey pink dress and had her hair down her shoulders with really low makeup

“He seems like a good boy” my mother said, referring to Jimmy and the photo I had ‘don’t ask me how’ in my hands.

“He is” I said, smiling “He is great, the only light I had on my life, since you were gone” I sighed deeply

“What’s wrong?” she asked

“If I had listened to him, I wouldn’t be here, I wouldn’t—”

“Baby, you know how much I love you?” she cut me off

“Infinitive multiplied infinitive” I replied with a slight smirk

“Then you have to know how much it hurt me to leave you and your dad, to have to watch him hurt you and not do anything…”

“Wha-What? How do you know?” I slurred

“I’m always watching you, my little mushroom” she poked my cheek

I smiled lightly, not knowing what to say

“I’m so sorry, baby” she repeated “I never wanted you to go through this”

“You’re dead, mom” I sighed “There’s nothing you could have done about it, It’s alright”

“No, it’s not alright, I just wish—” she said and I cut her off

“It’s. Alright” I repeated apsuing between words “Everything is now alright”

She sighed with a quick nod and I smiled

“Why I remembered those things, mom?” I asked, shakiness in my breathing

“I don't know” she replied “Your subconscious reacts according to what you truly want, I guess”

“You mean, to recover the mom and dad I lost?” I raised an eyebrow at her

She sighed, but did nothing more

“I miss you so much, mom” I said while I leaned my head on her lap

“I know, sweetie” she said, stroking my hair gently “I do too”

“At least now, I’m gonna be with you, right?”

She didn’t answered me, she didn’t spoke, the only thing I heard was her breathing.

“Mom?” I lifted my head from her lap, regaining my position and she had her eyes closed “Mom—”

“You can’t stay” she said “You don’t belong here and …Jimmy... He needs you”

“Mom, I—”

“You have to find you way home through him, baby” she whispered and she stood up, with me following her

“I love you, Gaby” she said kissing my cheek and holding my hands in hers “I always will, you have become such an amazing person and I couldn’t be more proud, but now, you need to fight”

“Fight?” I asked “Fight against wha—”

. . .

“GABY!” someone yelled “PLEASE ANSWER ME!, DON’T LEAVE ME!”
