Baby Mine
I Promise
“Mom, are you ready?” I asked, knocking on my mom’s bedroom door “Everyone’s waiting,” I told her, I heard her call for me to go in, so I did “Oh my God, mom,” I breathed, she looked amazing, her dress was simple, stopped at her shins, it was white and she wore brown cowboy boots on her feet, her hair was in curls with sat on her shoulders, she had a good tan from travelling.
“What? Is something wrong? Does it not look okay?” She asked, smoothing down her dress and touching her hair.
“You look gorgeous,” I told her, tears filling my eyes.
“Oh baby, don’t cry, I’m meant to be the one crying on your wedding day,”
“I’m so happy for you mom,” I cried “You’re finally getting everything you wanted,”
“Yes, A husband, grandchildren and you never know, maybe I’ll have a son-in-law soon too,” She smiled and wiped my stray tears.
“Don’t get your hopes up on that one mom,” I chuckled and sniffed “Daddy isn’t coming back, and we’re not running back to him, we can do this,” I said, looking down and rubbing my belly.
Less than an hour later mom and Stephen were married, it was beautiful, I gave her away and we cried, holding each other under the tree, on the middle of the farm that they were getting married under for about five minutes before we let go and I gave Stephen a quick kiss and a light hearted threat.
The party was in full swing, mom and Stephen were moving around talking to the guests, I was making occasional small talk with people while texting Nikki and drinking apple juice and eating all of the food.
“Can I have everyone’s attention please?” Mom asked into the microphone in front of the band that were set up on a small stage under the tent “Riley, you’re my baby girl, and you did something so special for me today, so we thought that we would get you something to show how appreciative we are of what you did today, we love you,” I looked at her confused as a spotlight hit me and Sea of Love started playing “turn around baby,” She told me, I turned slowly and saw Matt walking towards me.
He looked gorgeous, my heart fluttered and my knees went weak but he caught me and pulled me flush against him and started swaying slowly to the music, I looked up into his big, hazel eyes which were filled with tears, much like mine, the babies were kicking rapidly and we couldn’t help but smile, Matt leaned in to whisper in my ear.
“I love you Riley, more than anything in this world, you’re giving me the gift of life, twice, at the same time, but I love them already, I can’t wait to meet them and I know you’re going to be a great mom, just promise me that you’ll stay with me forever, and never, ever, run away like that again,” I couldn’t answer him, I just burst into tears and nodded my head like an idiot, he pulled a plain silver band out of his pocket and slid it onto my finger “A ring, to show you that I will always love you and that I promise to stay by your side, no matter what happens,”
