Memories Remain

Memories Remain

It's been a month since Avenged Sevenfold's self titled album was released. It's a huge hit amongst fans and it's success has dragged in new fans and has earned the attention of many people. The boys were climbing a mountain and they've made it to the top, there was no looking down for them.

The boys spent the night celebrating the success of the album in a hotel room. Their hearts bursting with pride because their hard work prevailed. Everybody celebrated until they couldn't anymore, passing out one by one until two remained.

Jimmy and Brian sat across from each other, sharing a drink. They sat, reminiscing of the times they shared when they were young, laughing until tears fell. Brian looked at Jimmy, smiling at him, "You know man, there's no coming down from this, only going up." He said in regard to the success of the album. Jimmy laughed, taking another drink from his beer.

"I hope it never ends. I mean, this is incredible. I'm in a band," he paused, "I should say successful band, with my best friends. Nothing can be better." The alcohol had hit the two and earlier they were acting like fools but now that everybody was asleep in their rooms, they were calm, enjoying each other's company.

Jimmy looked down, fiddling with his beer bottle, "You know you're best friend right?" he said, completely serious. Brian smiled, "I know it buddy, I'll always be your best friend." he replied.

"No I'm serious, always remember that I'll be your best friend. No matter what happens, even if tomorrow this is taken away from us, I'll always be your best friend. Remember that, Brian." Jimmy said. Sometimes Jimmy's face would have no expression on them, and even Brian couldn't read them. Brian simply replied, "Of course I will, I'll never forget that."

Jimmy smiled and got up, "I'm tired, I should get some sleep myself." Brian got up and hugged the taller man. "That's a good idea, I should too." he said, separating from Jimmy.

They walked away in separate directions to their hotel rooms. Jimmy stopped before entering his room and raised his voice towards Brian, "Hey!" Brian turned, looking at him. "I love you man." Jimmy said with a smile, entering his room. Jimmy closed the door before Brian could reply, but Brian replied anyways, saying "I love you too, Jimmy."

___

Brian's chest tightened at the memory that flooded his mind. He was home in Huntington, sitting on the couch, alone. Michelle had went on a trip with her friends and her sister, leaving Brian the house to himself and Pinkly, his dog.

The memory flooded his mind when he noticed the picture of him and Jimmy on the self, the picture they took that night. The memory was almost seven years old, and Jimmy had been gone for four years.

Pinkly was sound asleep on the chair next to him, Brian looked at the clock which read 11pm. He got off the couch, making his way towards the door and putting on his jacket. "I'll be back soon, Pinkly." He said, closing the door behind him. He didn't think, he just acted.

He got in his car and took a ten minute journey to the liquor store. He purchased two beers and got back in his car. He drove for fifteen minutes until he made it to the cemetery. His mind still on autopilot, he wasn't thinking at all.

He got out of his car, taking slow steps into the cemetery. He slowly walked through the tombstones, he knew where he was going. He's been here many times before, he knew it like the back of his hand. He finally reached a small plot where Jimmy was buried. He sat down next to it, placing the beers he bought by his side.

"Hey, brother." he said quietly. The cemetery was pitch dark except the few lights that people put on graves. Jimmy had a small light and surrounding it was flowers and souvenirs from across the globe. Brian admired the cards and pictures that the fans left, Jimmy's grave hardly ever was bare, there was always fans leaving things there.

Brian took a deep sigh, running his fingers across the engraving on Jimmy's plaque. His fingers touching the quote "Jimmy jumped into life and never touched bottom." Brian felt his heart swell, soon touching the words "Beloved son, brother, best friend."

Brian felt his eyes burn, he wasn't a person to cry. The only times he remembered crying was over Jimmy. He opened his beer bottle, leaving the other one in front of him, unopened.

"I had a pretty shitty day, dude. Granted, I love having off from touring but I can't stay in my own head for too long." He laughed, "You know how I get."

"You know, bad days were fine when you were around." Brian paused, catching the lump in his throat. "I was always able to talk to you, have a drink with you." Brian's eyes blurred, he could barely see at this point. He felt his nose tingle and his heart constrict with pain.

"You always told me that no matter what, always remember that you're my best friend. I want you to know that I never forgot that, and no matter how many years pass, you're still my best friend." The tears kept falling at this point, his voice shaking. He sat there in silence until he felt himself sobbing, placing his beer bottle at his side he put his head in his hands.

"God, Jimmy. Some days it's just so hard without you. That Arin kid, he's a good kid and I like him, but he's not you." he wiped his face, looking at Jimmy's plaque. He noticed a little rubber ducky with a mohawk and some punk accessories. He picked it up, examining it. He noticed it had a string around it with a note attached that said "I hope you catch all the Stallion ducks in heaven."

Brian broke out in a hearty laugh, "You were so loved Jimmy." he said though laughs and sniffles. He placed the duck back where it was, sitting there in silence.

"Sometimes, I feel like you're still around. Like you're watching the show from the crowd or you're laughing with me at something the guys did. Sometimes I feel like you're right next to me, insane right?" Brian laughed.

He had a couple more moments in silence, finishing his beer. A cold gust of air hit him in the face, so much so that his hair blew into the wind. It was the middle of August, there was no wind.

Brian laughed, his tears no longer falling. He smiled, rising to his feet, leaving the unopened beer bottle behind. Standing up taking one last look at Jimmy's plaque.

"I love you too, Jimmy." he said as he walked away.

Notes

I don't know why I did this, I was crying the whole time to be honest. I just needed to write something, I just miss him so much so in order to feel better I had to write something. I hope you enjoyed it.
