My Penpal is my New Step-Brother

I wanna find something I’ve wanted all along, somewhere I belong

It was a new morning and I had left before anyone was awake.
I was walked to school in light grey jeans, a red hoodie and a white t-shirt. I left my hair blond and tied it up in a bun.

When I finally had arrived at school not many people were there. I raced down to the basement and found Mr. Stump looking over music writing things.

“Oh my dear, dear Mia! I’m so glad you’re here!” I smiled

“Thanks! Listen I was wondering if that scholarship was still open?” I asked silently praying.

“Yes, yes! Of course! I need you to tape yourself singing a song and bring it to me as soon as possible and we’ll have you entered.” He said very jittery.

“Perfect!” I said smiling and hugged the jolly man.

I walked out of the music room quietly debating what song I was going to enter with.

“Mia! Wait up!” I looked over and saw Zacky. I quickly turned around and quickened my pace aiming for the girls bathroom. I soon saw Matt and Brian... then Kelsey and Johnny. I figured they were cornering me.

“Sup Mia?” Kelsey finally said when I was surrounded.

“Hey guys.” I said putting a smile on my face.

“You never called me back last night.” Zacky said pouting.

“Sorry I didn’t know it was mandatory.” I snapped.

“What’s up your ass this morning?” Zacky snapped back.

“Nothing! Why do you always have to have me call you!” I growled back.

“Guys, STOP fighting!” Brian and Matt yelled. I crossed my arms and turned around.

“The best question is what your problems lately? You two have been at each other like wolves on free meat!” Kelsey asked.

“Mine!? He’s the one drinking and partying despite me asking him to stop! He clearly doesn’t get that I love him enough to care and like him better sober!” I yelled.

“Whoa, whoa. Wait a minute!” Zacky yelled. I quickly ducked away feeling hot and flustered. I found Jimmy and grabbed his sleeve,

“WHOA! Mia where are we going?” He asked as I dragged him.

“Outside on the field.” I said without looking back.

Once I was out there we found a football and Jimmy threw it.

“So Mia, care to tell me why I was your partner for football?” When I caught it I gripped it hard and threw it was a burst of energy... catching Jimmy in the stomach.

“SORRY!” I ran up and he lied on the ground.

“It’s all good Mia!” He laughed then held his stomach.

“Sorry Jimmy, it’s just a lot is happening and I want to say you are such an amazing friend and I love you a lot.” I smiled and hugged him.

“Oh my god... Mia are you going to die?” I couldn’t help but laugh. I looked at the grass stains on my jeans,

“No Jimbo, I’m not dying it’s just... I want you to know I love you so much.” I kissed his forehead and walked inside.

“I can’t believe you.” Kelsey said rushing up to me at my locker.

“Excuse me?” I asked confused.

“You entered for the scholarship... who did you tell Mia?” She asked almost as read as her hair.

“Technically... Mr. Stump.” I declared grabbing books.

“Really? What about your parents... what are they going to say? Or me, the rest of the guys. Zacky, your boyfriend?” She said getting louder and louder.

“Kelsey! Look... I have to do this! So just butt out!” I screamed at her and quickly walked away.

Once I made it into Science I was able to take a window seat and think.

By the end of my class I had a page full of ideas and I slowly made it to Geography... Zacky sat in our normal spot but as I got to the door, I kept my head down and made my way to the AV department,

“Hi! I’m Mia.” I smiled at the shy looking boy. He had curly orange hair and big glasses.

“I’m Freddy.” He answered sniffling.

“Can I borrow a camera for the afternoon and I’ll return it tomorrow?” I asked batting my big blue eyes and smiling shyly at him.

“I-I guess so... but you have to sign here.”

“GREAT!” I gladly signed and looked back to my list.

“Making a project or something?” He asked seeing the long list,

“More like an audition.” I said smiling and waving him goodbye.
