Five Men And A Little Lady

"You'll have to catch me first!"

That night, Lizzy holds her maybe sister in her arms and watches her brother, boyfriend and best friends play the most kick ass rock show she's ever seen.

Every so often, one of them will turn to look at her- sometimes it's Jimmy, smiling and waving over at Lisa, or Brian grinning at his sister and making stupid faces at her, or Zacky turning and blowing her kisses, or winking at her. That was just for Lizzy obviously- but Lisa would sit and laugh at him too.

"See baby, that's your Uncle Brian playing guitar. That's my big brother- but he's like a teddy bear" Lizzy says to the little girl and she claps her hands together, laughing and yelling,
"Bri-bri! Bri-bri!"

The show passes and soon, five sweaty and disgusting guys are piling backstage, where girlfriends and family members wait patiently for the band to descend on them. Brian and Lizzy's dad is there, the ever loved Papa Gates, but he doesn't know Lisa's here, or that she could be his daughter.
"Mini-me and mini-Brian! HUG ME" Jimmy yells and suddenly traps the two of them in a bear hug, where they both squeal, trying to get away. He smells disgusting and he's not wearing a shirt, meaning they're both covered in his scent.

"Dude- stop crowding my sister! Don't make me beat you up" Brian says as Jimmy runs away into the dressing room, yelling about beer, and hugs Lizzy and Lisa, pulling the little girl out of Lizzy's arms.
"Jimbo's not the only one who's allowed to love this little cutie" he smiles and kisses Lisa's cheek. There's a horrible twisting in Lizzy's gut as she wonders if she should tell Brian the whole story- but she ignores it. He can't know...yet.

He carries Lisa into the dressing room, leaving Lizzy to be swept up by Zacky and kissed all over her face. She hates his kisses when he's just come off stage and she tries to pull away, but his grip is too strong.

"Babe, I'll get you later!" he announces as she ducks free and starts to run towards the dressing room. How long have her Dad and Brian been alone, especially with Lisa there?
"You'll have to catch my first, Baker!"

The room is almost filled with talk and with people, yet Brian and their Dad are the ones talking. Lisa is nowhere to be seen, and when she feels someone tugging at her skirt, Lizzy looks down to see Lisa looking a little scared.
"'izzy?" she asks, and Lizzy picks her up, intent on finding her father and talking this out. She walks over, and once her Dad spots her his eyes widen.

"Before you tell me anything- where is Zacky, I'm about to go and punch his brains out- Brian you're coming with me because, well, I'm not twenty five anymore" he almost growls, and Brian rolls his eyes shaking his head at their Dad.
"She's not my daughter Dad, she's not Brian's either. I think you know exactly who she is" Lizzy says, and the colour drains from his face as he realises.

She knows.

"Can we talk somewhere a little more private? There's something I should've told you both" he says guiltily, and the three walk out of the dressing room. Brian leads them over to a deserted practise room and locks the door, his arms folded over his chest.
"Alright- will someone please tell me what the hell is going on?" he almost yells, and Lisa starts to wail in Lizzy's arms. She's eighteen, she doesn't know what to do with a child, but Brian gently takes her out of his sister's arms and begins to rock her slowly.

"Sssh, baby, it's OK" he whispers to her, and their father sits down on an abandoned couch, putting his head in his hands.
"I was stupid, but the divorce just meant...I wasn't thinking straight. It was a one night thing, and then nine months later- the birth certificate came through the mail. I didn't know what to do" he admits and Brian, who can't put two and two together in the most obvious situations, glances over at Lizzy.

"Brian...Lisa's our sister. We all have the same Dad"
"W-w-what?" he stutters, and suddenly Lisa climbs down from Brian's arms and stumbles over to their Dad, hugging at his knees.
"Da-da" she says, and suddenly Lizzy realises, he's seen her before- in fact, he probably saw her everytime they had their backs turned.

"Dad...were you the one that left her in the dressing room?" Brian asks, and I can see his fists clenching at his sides, like he's almost ready to blow a fuse and start another huge argument with his dad.
"No, of course not. It must've been her mother. She knew you were my son, and obviously the figured the best way to get her to me, was through you" he explains, standing up and holding the little girl in his arms.

"I need a drink" Brian hisses and storms out, angrily slamming the door on the way out, and Lizzy follows him, knowing that if she doesn't stop her brother- someone is going to get hurt.

And maybe, once again, it might be her.
