Your Safe With Me

Chapter 2
“You’re safe with me”
After sometime of driving we finally reached the Wyoming border.I felt myself drifting peacefully off to sleep. It was nice to fall asleep to the sound of a car engine instead of the sound of patients running up and down the halls screaming. And nurses poking their heads in the door every hour and announcing “Checks.”
I felt my eyes slowly close as the car rocked me to sleep. Brian had gotten quiet long ago.
It felt like I had only been asleep for a few moments when I opened my eyes once again to a familiar white room. I sighed as I pushed myself off of my bed and placed my feet on the cold ground. I rubbed my eyes and yawned as I walked out of my room and into the hallway that led to the bathroom.
I pulled my hair into a messy bun and wiped at the messy makeup with my finger tips. I didn’t really care at this point. After 14 years there was no one to impress. I walked out of the bathroom when I was content with my shitty appearance and walked down the hallway once again.I walked until I came to the last room on the left. The door was already opened. Probably from the morning nurse doing her checks. I walked inside and smiled when I saw my friend Dillion laying in bed still. I looked over to his bedside dresser to see he had yet to take his medicine.
4 small little pills laying neatly side by side in order of color. This had to be done or else he would freak out. Dillion had a very bad obsessive compulsive disorder. If things weren’t in proper order or how he liked them he would freak out. I grabbed the pills and sat down on the side of his bed and rubbed his back. “Dillion.” I say quietly. “Come on its time to get up and get some breakfast.”
“Go away.” He says quietly.
“Come on Dillion, come eat breakfast with me.” I say trying to convience him to get out of bed. Knowing neither of us would eat the shit, I just wanted him out of bed.
Suddenly he rolled over and threw me to the floor, holding my wrists painfully to the ground.
“Fuck the breakfast and fuck those god damn pills!” he shouts angrily at me as prys them from my hand and throws them across the room.
“Dillion, let go of me.” I plead as I wiggle back and forth in his hands.
He let go of me as he jumped up from the floor and began to throw his stuff across his room, ripping his posters and pictures from his walls. “You could wait! You don’t have to leave me here!” he yells at me.
“You know I cant stand another day in this place.” I shout back at him.
Finally after a few minutes, a crowd of nurses rushed into the room, and held him down to the crowd, sedated him, and carried him out of the room as he called for me. His screams echoed throughout the halls.
“Amaryllis are you alright?”
I opened my eyes slightly to see Brian leaning over me.
“Fine.” I muttered as I pushed him away as I leaned. I rummaged through my pockets to find my cigarettes and placed one in between my lips and light one up. My hands shaking the whole time I did so.
“Are you sure your alright?” he asks curiously.
“Yes.” I say, my voice shaking.
“Well I just wanted to let you know that we are in Cheyenne, Wyoming. I figured we could get a hotel and something to eat and then head out in the morning.”
I nodded in agreement and flung the cigarette out the window.
Brian cranked the car up and drove down the road a little bit. After about 5 minutes we pulled into a restaurant named Shari’s.I unbuckled my seat belt and followed Brian into the restaurant. It was weird being exposed to a group of people that weren’t patients or nurses or doctors. We were seated at a table with a booth. An elderly waitress approached our table with a warm smile and a chipper attitude.
“Good evening dears, what would you like to drink?” she asked.
“Beer for me.” Brian said as he handed the lady his ID. She quickly glanced it over and returned it to him. “And for you dear?” she asked smiling over to me.
“Dr. Pepper.” I say. Funny that I remembered that particular soda from my childhood. It would be nice to drink something other than grape juice and water. Shortly after leaving to retrieve our drinks she returned and placed them in front of us.
“Do you guys need a moment?”
“Yes please.” Brian says sweetly as he winks to her.
The elderly woman flushed a beet red and giggled innocently as she turned and walked away.
“So is Dillion your boyfriend?” he asked curiously.
I looked down to the menu and cleared my throat.
“How do you know that name?” I say quietly.
“You were mumbling it in your sleep.” He says taking a swig of his beer.
“Oh. No he isn’t my boyfriend. I wouldn’t be running away to California with you if I had a boyfriend.” I say sarcasticly.
“I was just wondering how you got in there.” He says sliding my hospital bracelet across the table. “It fell out while you were sleeping.”
I quickly retrieved the bracelet and shoved it in my pocket. “Its not as it seems.” I whisper.
“Its alright, I wouldn’t have offered you a ride if I thought you were crazy.” He winked at me as he took another sip of his beer.
I chuckled and took a sip of my Dr. Pepper.
After we ordered our food, and ate, Brian paid for our food and we were back in the car headed for our hotel.
We arrived at what seemed like a pretty pricey hotel.Brian didn’t seem like he was rich. And he certainly didn’t dress or act like it.
But after confirming his reservation for the hotels suite, it was apparent that he had some sort of money for himself.
We walked into the elevator and Brian pushed the button for the second floor.“Erm, I don’t have any clothes. I didn’t really bring anything from that place.” I say through a sigh.
“Well if your okay with it, you can use one of my shirts to sleep in, and I promise when we get to California I will buy you all that you need. Deal?” he says holding out his hand.
“Deal.” I say shaking his hand.
After the doors to the elevator opened we walked down the hall to the suite. Brian fished for the card in his pocket and slid it down the card reader accessing the room.
He opened the door and I stood in awe of the suite as he walked past me. It was almost like a mini apartment. Sofas in the center of the room, a 50” t.v., and a table with booze and sodas next to the t.v.
There was a giant window behind one of the sofas and I made my way to the window. I pressed my hands against the glass and looked at the lights from the buildings across Cheyenne.
“So theres two bedrooms, you can have the one with the main bathroom. It’s a big larger than the other bathroom.Heres a tshirt and a pair of my jogging pants if you wanna roll them up.” He chuckled embarrassingly.
“Thank you.” A say through a smile.
“I will let you do your thing.” He says as he walks past me. I didn’t say anything else but walked into the bedroom and shut the door and locked it. I unbuttoned my pants and let them fall to the floor. All the contents of my jeans fell to the floor. Including my pills the hospital gave me. I totally forgot that I had these. Im only supposed to take them if Im feeling sad, or having an anxiety attack.
I walked past them and into the bathroom. I stepped out of underwear, and removed my shirt and bra and threw them to the ground.
I looked at my reflection in the mirror and retrieved a rag from the mini shelf next to the mirror. I washed my face furiously and then pulled my hair down from the messy bun. I watched as the strands fell to my chest covering my boobs.
I took a quick shower and then stepped back out into the bathroom. I wrapped a towel around me as I walked into the main bedroom. I pulled Brian’s tshirt from the bed and pulled it over my head. The intoxicating smell of cigarettes and axe pervaded my nose as I inhaled it happily.I pulled on the jogging pants he lent me and rolled them up twice.
I then unlocked the bedroom door and made my way back to the “living room” area of the suite. Brian was sitting on one of the sofas drinking what appeared to be jack and soda.
“Can I have one of those?” I asked curiously. He turned to look at me and smiled as he poured me a shot of Jack and then some coke ontop of it.
“Thank you.” I say as I chugged it back. “Another? This time no coke.” I wink to him. He chuckles and pours me a shot. I chugged this one back as well and sat down next to him.
“So why were in the hospital?” he asked curiously.
My stomach dropped to the floor and I sighed.
“I don’t really want to talk about it right now.” I say.
“That’s okay. I understand.” He says.
I glanced up to his eyes as our gazes locked. His deep brown eyes made my heart flutter and my stomach turn flops.
“Hey…” he says to me as he pulls my face closer to his. “Your safe with me.” He whispers. I smile at him and lean my head on his chest.
I don’t know why I did, but I did. I don’t think he minded, because he ran his fingers through my wet hair.
