Chapter Thirty-Three
Zacky’s POV
Sitting at home was boring, in times like these I would have called Jimmy Senior but yeah, I can’t do that. But, I could talk to him.
“Hey Jimmy, I know you haven’t hear from me in a while but I’ve been a little busy screwing with our fans minds with new album teasers. I wanted to say I miss you and all of us think about you at least three times a day, even Arin. Dude Arin is awesome at drums but he will never be able to live up to your standards, I actually kind of feel bad for him because some of the fans give him crap about not being good enough to take your place. It’s not like he got you kicked out of the band or anything so they really have no right to be cunts about it. Sorry for that little rant.” I said looking out the living room window.
Just as I was about to say something else my phone rang.
“Hello?” I answered
“Dad.” I heard
“Blaze?” I asked
“Daddy we need you.” She cried
“Where are you at baby girl?” I asked
“At the hospital.” She cried
“Alright baby I’m on my way.” I said
I hung up and flipped shit. What the fuck was my daughter doing in the hospital and why didn’t Brice call me. I pushed my feet roughly into my shoes, grabbed my keys and headed out the door. I was about ten over the speed limit the entire time but I had to get there. When I pulled in I got out, locked the car and ran inside.
“I’m looking for Blaze, Zayleigh, Brice Baker and Jimmy Sullivan Junior.” I said
When I looked up it was Cassandra working and she had tears in her eyes.
“Blaze and Zay are over there.” She said pointing
I followed her finger and saw my girls sitting there.
“Where is Jimmy and Brice?” I asked
“Go get the twins and I’ll take you to Jimmy.” She said
I nodded and walked over to the twins.
“Baby girls.” I said
They looked up and ran to me, they were crying. I took one of each of their hands and Cassandra walked me to the ER where she took us to Jimmy. He was sitting up in the bed getting checked out.
“Who are you?” The doctor asked
“His father.” I said
He nodded and let me to Jimmy.
“Jimmy are you okay?” I asked
“Just some whiplash.” He said
“What happened?” I asked
“We were in a car accident.” He said
“Cassandra where is my wife?” I asked
“In the ICU.” She said
“Why?” I asked
“She’s fallen into a coma and she’s going to be moved to a room shortly
I nodded and pulled my girls to my and hugged them.
“Is mommy going to be okay Aunt Cassandra?” Blaze asked
“I don’t know sweetheart.” She said bending down to hug Blaze.
“Nurse Cassandra we need your assistance moving Mrs. Baker into a room.” Someone said
“That’s Brice.” Cassandra said
I nodded.
“I’ll be right back.” She said
I nodded and sat on the bed with Jimmy, the girls climbed up and sat with us.
“Is Jimmy allowed to go home?” I asked the Doctor standing there
“Yes.” He said
“Thank you.” I said
“We’re not going home are we dad?” He asked me
“I’m not, you guys are.” I said
“That’s not fair daddy.” ZBlaze said
“It is. I will call Brian or Matt to come get you three and take you to their house, I’ll be home later.” I said
They all looked at me.
“Okay?” I asked
“I’ll take care of them.” Jimmy said
“Thank you.” I said
I felt a tear slip down my face.
“Daddy don’t cry.” Blaze said
“I’m not Blaze. Be good for your brother okay?” I asked
The girls nodded and I pulled my phone out of my pocket and called Brian.
“Sup?” He answered
“Hey has Cassandra talked to you?” I asked
“No? About what? What’s wrong?” He asked
“Can you come get Jimmy, Zayleigh, and Blaze from the hospital? I’ll meet you outside of the building.” I said
“I’m on my way.” He said
I hung up and looked at Jimmy.
“Let’s get you three to the waiting room to wait on Brian.” I said
Jimmy stood up and the girls followed, we walked to the waiting room and they sat down.
“Stay.” I said
They nodded and I walked out front and into the grass and lit up a cigarette.
“Dad.” I heard
I looked and Jimmy was standing there.
“Yeah bud?” I asked
“She’s going to be okay.” He said
“We don’t know that. Jim she was six months pregnant.” I said
“I know. What was the baby?” He asked
“You guys were going to have a little brother.” I said
“Do you think by some miracle that the baby lived?” He asked
I really don’t know.” I said
He nodded and hugged me, he was taller than me by a lot.
“It’s going to be okay dad.” He asid
“I hope so.” I said
He nodded and I made him go in with his sisters. Brian showed up after a while and I was still smoking.
“Why are you guys here?” He asked
I dropped the cigarette and stubbed it out with my foot.
“Brice and the kids were in a car accident on the way home from the airport.” I said feeling my warm tears fall down my cheeks.
Brian pulled me into a hug.
“Are they okay?” He said
“Jimmy, Blaze and, Zayleigh are. Brice fell into a coma and I don’t know about the baby.” I cried
“Shh, calm down Zacky.” He said
I took a long breath and sighed.
“Lets go in and I’ll get the kids and you can talk to Cassandra alone.” He said
I nodded wiped my tears off of my face and we walked in, Cassandra was standing by the kids and she looked over at Brian and I and she walked over.
“Brian I’m not coming home tonight.” She said
“I don’t want you too, I want you to stay with Brice and Zacky.” He said
She kissed him and looked at me.
“Brice got moved to her own room, she’s stable and you can go see her.” She said
“Will you come with me?” I asked
“I wouldn’t let you do it alone Hun.” She said
“Brian is going to take the kids back to your house.” I said
“Okay.” She said
“Dad is at the house with our kids.” Brian said
“I figured. Get them home, Alice and Brianna can share a bed so Zayleigh and Blaze can share one. Jimmy can sleep on the couch.” Cassandra said
“How about Alice and Brianna don’t share a bed and Jimmy and the girls can sleep together in our bed and I’ll hit the couch?” Brian asked
“That works.” Cassandra said
I nodded and Brian hugged me and went to the kids, they all got up and came over to me and hugged me. Once they were gone Cassandra grabbed my hand and led me to the elevators, we rode up to the seventh floor and went to a room 21G. When she opened the door I walked in with her behind me and I looked at Brice, she was just laying there, wires everywhere in her, a neck brace, she was pale, too pale and I didn’t like what I saw. Her belly was also gone which means to me that our son didn’t live. I dropped to my knees on the floor and just cried, Cassandra closed the door and got on her knees in front of me and pulled me to her.
“It’s okay to cry Zacky.” She said
“Is she going to be okay?” I asked
“We can’t tell.” She said
“Do you have an estimate on when she’s going to wake up?” I asked
“She has some serious head trauma, it could be weeks, months. Sweetheart she may not.” She said
“She’ll wake up. Brice is strong, she’s very strong.” I said
“She’s the strongest girl I know.” She said
“I have another question.” I said
“what?” She asked
“The baby?” I asked
“They took him out and he’s in the NICU. We don’t know about him either.” She said
I nodded and she continued to hug me.
“Are you going home tonight or are you staying here?” She asked
“I told Jimmy I’d be home.” I said
“Well I’m invoicing the rule that you have to go to my house and be with Brian.” She said
“Yes sir. Can I see the baby?” I asked
“Tomorrow.” She said
“I’m going to stay in here for a little bit. I’ll text you when I leave.” I said
She nodded and kissed my forehead and walked out of the room, I got up off of the floor and pulled a chair over next to the bed, I took her hand in mine and kissed it.
“Baby I’m right here, you’re not alone right now.” I said choking back tears.
I examined my wife, she was so pale, if I didn’t know any better I would assume she was dead. I sat there for about an hour just holding her hand, after that I decided I should get home to my kids. I texted Cassandra that I was heading to her house and I kissed Brice on the forehead and left. I drove carefully because I didn’t want to be reckless; when I pulled into Brian’s driveway I saw the girls on the front porch together.
“Dad.” They said
I walked up and hugged them.
“Is she alright?” Blaze asked
I loved how these two could go from six year old to sixteen year olds and they were twelve.
“We don’t know. I’m going to go back tomorrow morning, but tomorrow afternoon I’ll take you two and your brother to see her.” I said
They nodded and we went inside, Jimmy was sitting on the couch with Brian and he looked at me hopeful and I shook my head.
“Girls why don’t you head up to bed.” I said
They nodded and I kissed them goodnight and sat down on the couch in between Jimmy and Brian.
“What’d Aunt Cassandra say?” Jimmy asked
“They moved her because she was stable, she has serious head trauma and it could be weeks or months or maybe never until she wakes up.” I said
“They don’t think she’s going to do they?” Brian asked
“I don’t know. Brice is strong, she’ll come through.” I said
“She is, she really is.” Brian said
“What about the baby?” Jimmy asked
“He’s in the NICU.” I said
He nodded even though I’m pretty sure he had no idea what that meant.
“Jimmy go get some sleep.” I said
“Are you going to be okay?” He asked me
“I don’t know. Sleep.” I said pointing at the stairs.
He side hugged me and went upstairs.
“What if she dies Brian?” I asked
“If that is to happen she’ll be with Jimmy Senior watching over you guys.” He said
“I can’t even imagine my life without her, she has literally always been in it.” He said
“Well don’t Zack, don’t believe she’s going to die. Don’t think like that. Think positive, think good for your girls and Jimmy.” He said
“If she dies Jimmy won’t have any true parents.” I said
“Zack you are his true parent. He loves you like a father, you are his father okay?” He asked
I nodded and he patted my shoulder.
“You can sleep here.” He said motioning to the couch.
“No you sleep on the couch I’ll hit the recliner.” I said
“Are you sure?” He asked
“Yeah.” I said
He nodded and laid down after I got up and got into the recliner chair, after I was comfortable I fiddled with my phone.
“Do the others know?” I asked
“No, I was thinking about getting everyone here tomorrow morning and telling them.” He said
“We’ll do that.” I said
“Night Zacky.” He said
“Night Brian.” I said
I turned my brightness on my phone down and stared at my home screen picture. It was Brice and I on our wedding day, I spun my wedding ring on my finger and locked my phone. She’s going to be okay. I told myself. I eventually fell into a miserable sleep.
