I'll never tell....

His dead eyes were like windows to his empty soul....

The next day, we ate then set out for the mental ward, enthusiasm at an all time high. We pushed through the bushes off the trail and fought past the thorns, heading to our destination. All we heard was our grunts and footfalls as we finally burst into the clearing.

I stared at the asylum for the second time, even more so wonder-struck than last time. I was still unsure about exploring it, but now that we were all going in as a team, I felt a fuck-ton braver.

I glanced at Matt, and his eyes showed his anticipation and fear. Wow, my leader fearful... I wondered about how bad of an idea this truly was. However, all my uncertainties were banished when Leana squeezed my hand. Damn, her bravery was contagious.

"Well," I broke the silence, "Are we going to stare at it or go inside?" Everyone finally realized we were wasting time and we set off across the field for the front gate.

"This is going to end badly." Matt murmured, but I ignored his sour mood. No way was I going be pulled into a shitty mood cause of Matt!

We approached the entrance cautiously, peering into the empty expanse of benches and land. There was a volleyball court off to the side, and what looked like a food court. My nose crinkled at the rotten smell, as did everyone else's.

"Well," Matt tried in vain to change our minds, "We came and we saw; now let's to back to the camp-"

"Shut the fuck up Matt." Lacey spat venomously. Matt's mouth snapped shut and he stuck his tongue out at her while her back was turned. Give it to Matt to act playful at a time like this!

Me and Brian yanked on the unlocked rusty gate, allowing an entryway to form. One by one, our convoy hesitantly entered the grounds of the asylum. This was it; no turning back now. After me and Brian hopped onto the other side, we pulled the gate closed again with an echoing snap.

All it did was remind us of how alone we were... and how vulnerable. We pushed forward, inspecting our surroundings while making our way to the entrance.

Wrinlked papers blew across the field, and one got tangled inbetween my legs. I reached down to pick it up, and realized it was a hand-drawn picture of a very young boy.

His brown hair was tussled and bouncy, as if someone had given him a noogie, and his dimpled smile was bigger than Matt's. The only sad thing about the drawing was his eyes... his dead grey eyes were like windows to his empty soul. I knew his face looked strangely familiar, but I just couldnt place it.

So I committed it to memory and put the drawing in my pocket, then looked around.

Their was a rustic looking playground, with a damp slide and swings swaying in the wind. It reminded me of ghosts, like dead children's spirits forever doomed to swing. I shuddered and pulled Leana closer.

There were windows every few feet and on every level of the building (and there were at least 5 stories!), but creepily every single one had bars covering it. The cracked sidewalk led from double doors out in every which direction, and around the sides of the tall hospital. The overgrown grass filled the cracks on the cement and wrapped around the many benches legs.

I glanced up into one of the 3rd story windows and froze instantly. What... what the hell was that? I blinked rapidly and glanced fearfully at Leana, then back at the window, but the thing was gone now. Shit.... Now I was seeing things.

"Babe, what's wrong?" I gazed at Leana and shook my head.

"I think I'm seeing things. But it's nothing, lets go inside." She nodded, but still looked worried. I walked fast to catch up with our group, throwing glances up at the window. Had I really been seeing things? Of course you were, my sub-conscience snapped.

Yes, of course I was. Even as I thought it though, I was almost certain I had seen a girl staring down at us from the window. But my mind HAD to be playing tricks on me, I mean.... no one could possibly live here, right?

Matt pushed through the creaky double doors revealing a sunlit hallway. A buzzing Exit sign glowed red from above, and I realized we must have entered from the "backyard".

"This is it... Let's get discovering."

Yep sorry but this chapter is really kinda shit... it's just confusing that it's Val.. and if it's really Val than why did you write those diarythings? It doesn't go with that.. sorry but I just want to be honest and not sliming around with: "omfg that's so awesome" though that's not my real and honest opinion... anyways I'm glad that you not just gave up and stoppes writing completely and I completely don't want to unsettle you or something like that.. I just want you to gather yourself because I know that you could do it waaay better! Please don't give up and carry on.. and maybe you could rewrite that chapter because you said in the notes that you don't like it neither.. So maybe that's an option! :)
It was a good chapter! Don't be so fucking hard on yourself! Write a tiny tiny bit each day an it'll add up to a huge chapter, don't get bummed out... I really love this story, and I hope you're still doing the prequel and other stuff. ;)
