The Arrival
After driving so counless hours that at this moment I don't even know what time it is or what DAY it is, but we have finally arrived at my new home.As soon as we arrived Retta jumped out moaning and groaning because she was stiff from sitting on her ass for hours! I too was stiff but not as bad as she was apparently. First thing I did was run to my apartment to open the front door to see what kind of room I had to work with. Retta on the other hand opted out for another cigarette.
I looked in every room. Imaganing how I would arrange furniture and which out of the two rooms was going to be my bedroom. The living room was open to the kitchen and dining area which was perfect because honestly, who ate at the dinner table when they lived alone? I went into the bathroom and was honestly pleased with the size. As soon as you walked in the light was to the left on the same wall as the door. Looking ahead was a small window that let in the perfect amount of sun during the day and moonlight at night! To the right was a new shower/tub combo and to the left was the sink, sunken into a nicely fitting bath vanity. Two drawers and cabinet doors to store everything I could ever possibly need. Above that was a nice vanity mirror that match the vanity that the sink was nestled in and of course a nice new toilet to top it all off. Everything in this bathroom was top of the line and brand new. I was very pleased with the way it was decorated. Now all I have to worry about is the rest of the apartment.
After Retta finished her smoke and got off of the phone with her family she turned to me wiping tears away from her eyes. "What the hell! Why are you crying?" Summer asked. "Sorry I just miss my boys so much. You know I've never been away from them longer then a couple of days" said Retta. "Oh well I understand that, so are you ready to get this shit moved into my new place?" "Sure I could use a distraction right now!" "Great you are going to love this place! It is AMAZING!!"
We unloaded boxes first saving the heavy stuff for later. Needless to say with plenty of caffiene and fewer smoke breaks (Retta) we got to the heavy stuff sooner then we wanted to but dammit we were on a serious roll! Once we moved in the couch -it's an old beat up baby shit green three cushioned couch but dammit it is comfortable - I couldn't leave home with out we moved to my bed that I decided I couldn't leave behind. Once inside I showed Retta around my new place since she was technically my first visitor and over night guest! She loved it as I knew she would. We started unpacking some boxes putting away the few dishes I brought with me and toiletries and linens.After that we decided we needed a break and hooked the t.v. up to see what watching television in California was going to be like. Luckily I paid the first months rent in advance which included the utilities and cable. How lucky was that?
We couldn't help but stop on a home shopping network to make fun of the people selling stuff to the couch potatoes. At that time I realized there were a few things I needed to go buy before we spent our first night here. Just as soon as I got up and started to tell Retta that we needed to go shopping the apartment started to shake. It was like something from the movies! Car alarms started going off and tires were screeching. Retta and I were screaming trying to figure out what to do. We looked at each other and said in unison "Door frame!!!!" We hid in the door frame for what seemed like forever to wait for the shaking to stop. I guess the first night in the apartment wasn't going to be so boring after all. My first earthquake with my first house guest.Ten minutes after the shaking stop and a few tremors passed there was a knock on the door. It was my landlord checking to see if I had made it here ok. He didn't expect to get caught in the hallway by an earthquake he said. He checked on the apartment and said everything was fine and I thanked him for everything and signed a few papers and he was on his way.
