Friends and Alibis

Chapter 23

Sundays. I had always hated Sundays after I had to go to Seattle. There was nothing to do. Hardly any shops were open. Everyone was busy with family activities (Which I dreaded so I didn’t participate in them anyway). And of course in Seattle the people I wanted to spend them with weren’t around (at least until Katelyn came along).

So even though now all of those people were back in my life, this dread still hadn’t vanished completely. Or I just needed to find a few new hobbies.

I couldn’t stand to just lie around all day again so I put on work-out clothes and went for a run.

I had never been an athletic person, the most sport I had ever done was when the boys and I would ride around with our bikes but that was it.

So it didn’t surprise me that I was wheezing after a mere 30 minutes of running. I had at least made it to the beach but the only downside was that I had to run (or rather walk) the same distance back to my apartment.

I sat down on one of the benches that lined the beach and tried to catch my breath. It didn’t help that it probably was like 90°, either.

I got up to walk back to my apartment when is suddenly bumped into something. Or rather, someone. I looked up and my blood ran cold.

“Fancy seeing you here,” Amelia sneered. She looked at the girl that was with her and pointed at me. “Lisa, I told you about the bitch.”

I glared at her but she seemed to have too much fun in talking me down and sipping at her drink.

“Ah, yes. You told me how she was trying to steal your fiancé, sorry, almost-husband.” The short girl replied with a smirk.

“What do you want, Amelia?” I asked with my teeth clenched.

“Definitely less than you, seeing how I got what you want.” She put on that stupid smirk again. “And seeing you sweating like a pig isn’t doing you any favours, too. Sports not going to do it for you, might as well go on a diet first.”

“Amelia, I’m not to blame for your self-esteem issues but putting me down isn’t going to help them in any way.” I replied with my eyes narrowed.

“Listen, you little bitch,” she started and backed me towards the banister. The other girl just stood back and smirked. “I know that you want Zacky. But he’s mine. And in six days there will a pretty, expensive ring to prove it. So get out of the way. You’re not going to ruin this one for me.” She spun around and went to leave.

“Zack was right,” I knew I shouldn’t provoke her. But it was too damn tempting. “You ARE a bridezilla.”
She stopped and spun around again.

“Listen here, you fucking idiot. This has nothing to with the wedding, this has to do with my personal life and you will not meddle with it nor will I ever see you again after this marriage is finalized because we both know he will cut you out if his wife wants him to. So crawl back into the cave you came from and never ever show your face around here ever again.” She said.

“Are you threatening me?” I asked incredulously.

“Believe it or not, I could kick your ass back to where you came from.” She responded, seething.
At that I had to laugh. Not a full blown laugh. Just a small one, but loud enough for Amelia to hear and make her rage grow even more.

“You know, just yesterday I told your fiancé that I just wanted to be friends with him, even though I didn’t want that. To be honest I was just going to let you guys go on with it. But you’ve gone too far right now and I’ll be damned if I let my best friend end up with a bitch like you. This wedding will not take place if I have anything to do with it. Even if I might not the one he will end up with eventually. It also definitely won’t be you.” I glared at her and turned around to leave.

I could feel her stare on me even when I was a few hundred meters away from her but I didn’t care. I had a plan to go through with. And she had just made me a hundred times more determined to succeed.

I had told them that I wasn’t willing to continue with it but that didn’t mean that I couldn’t do subtle things to keep it going. Subtle enough so not even Amelia would notice that there was something up. Although my idea of subtle had proven to be quite distorted throughout the years. I was going to try it anyway.

After all, I still wanted Zack to be more than just a friend. And the wedding was in a mere 6 days. And in everyone’s opinion Amelia just wasn’t going to fit the bill. No matter how hard she tried.

And since the guys’ plan had failed (Obviously. He didn’t even look at the dress in the coffee shop.) I was going to do it my way.

Subtle but with determination.

I fetched my phone and texted Katelyn.

May 15:43pm
Are you free? I need your help.

Katelyn 15:45pm
Yeah, I am. What’s up?

May 15:47pm
I need help dying my hair. It’s going to be blonde again.

Katelyn 15:50pm
Any particular reason?

May 15:51pm
Maybe.
