Swallowing Light

Shock

Hanna felt sick to her stomach as she sat on the couch next to Zack who was sipping a beer and watching his baseball game as per usual. Looking at her laid back friend she shook her head a little, something about the smell of the alcohol made her want to barf but she also wished she could be as relaxed – he never seemed to have a worry in the world. She rubbed her face, whining a little tonight was either going to one of two ways and she didn’t even want to the think about it. She'd noticed how upset Val seemed, and she wasn't sure why she was so angry, sometimes it just didn’t make sense.

Val knew they slept together, why was she so angry that she’d gotten pregnant on a night when both of them were so drunk obviously no protection had been used. Taking a deep breath she looked at Zack again feeling his eyes staring at her, his brow furrowed.

"You look sick, you alright Hanna?" he asked her as he sipped his beer – he had known her as long as he’d known Jimmy, so he could tell when something wasn’t right with her.

"I'm fine," she mumbled she just wished she could tell everyone and get it over with. She smiled when she saw Jimmy and he smiled back, kissing the top of her head then ruffling her hair.

"You okay?" he asked, and she nodded.

"I'm alright, when can we?" she asked as she looked at him her voice low.

"Soon, as soon as everyone sits down to eat in about ten minutes." he told her gently as he kissed her forehead again before heading out to the back yard. She smiled weakly as Zack looked at her, then at Jimmy as he left and smirked.

"Are you two, uh, dating?" he asked with a smirk still plastered onto his face, Hanna looked at Zack and laughed a little.

"No, we're not." she murmured as she shook her head, he raised an eyebrow at her. He didn't believe her; however Hanna couldn't exactly blame him. She stood up going into the kitchen; Zack followed her with an amused smile on his face – he was determined.

"Aw, come on you can tell me, I won't tell anyone, “He whined.

"Bullshit, that time I asked you not to tell anyone I was dating Trevor Hamilton you screamed it the first chance you got. Besides, we really aren't dating," she said to him as she grabbed a sprite out of the fridge. Hanna knew he wouldn't let up until he found out about the baby, but he would find out in less than ten minutes. When she got outside Jimmy had her plate fixed and she thanked him with a small smile – he knew her portions better than anyone else. However, he was jittery which she knew he had every right to be slightly nervous considering most of the guys saw her as a baby sister, taking the news of her being pregnant might not go as well as they’d hoped.

As everyone sat down and got their drinks and started to eat an uneasy silence fell on them, something that just wasn't the norm for how they usually were. Which was loud, everyone looked at each other waiting for someone to break the awkward silence.

“Hanna and I are having a baby.” Jimmy blurted out causing Hanna to freeze; Brian laughed a little thinking he was joking, because that was just how jimmy was sometimes. Jimmy often joked about Hanna having his children, she looked at Brian when he noticed everyone wasn't laughing he stared at them shocked.

“D-dude, when?” he asked confused as he looked at the pair who sat next to each other.

“The last party we had, when we all got wasted.” Hanna said softly as she looked at him and licked over her lips. Zacky stared at them and rubbed his face for a moment before smiling a little, they were bringing the first Avenged Sevenfold infant into the family – he could be more excited.

“Well, I'm happy for you two. I personally think that baby is going to one hell of a cute infant.” he said making Jimmy crack a smile.

“What are you talking about? It's going to be the sexiest being to walk this planet, next to Hanna and myself of course.” he said using a mock British accent which he did on occasion. The laughing a talking commenced for a while, then everyone looked to Hanna who was picking at her food.

“You alright?” Jimmy asked her lightly rubbing her back a bit as he took a big bite of mash potatoes.

“I'm fine, just listening. I don't feel to good either.” she said to him quietly as she looked at him, his blue eyes peered into her own as he finished the big bite of potatoes he’d shoveled into his mouth. She laughed a little as she looked at him, something in her shifted at the very moment, Jimmy's eyes held some sort of emotion she'd never seen before – it startled her that he was looking at her the way he was.

“Are you alright, Jimmy?” she asked him lightly.

“I'm perfect,” he grinned and continued to eat his food, more liked scarfing it down. He never took the time to eat his food, it was a wonder he was even able to digest it properly because he never seemed to even chew his food.

“So how do you feel about becoming a mom?” Johnny asked as he sipped his beer.

“Nervous, worried, scared, really worried.” she listed off the top of her head as she picked up her bottle of water; she opened it and sipped it lightly. The guys laughed a little, she hated the way Val was acting. She was treating her like she was some sort of groupie who had wound Jimmy around her finger, which that wasn't her intent at all. She hadn’t even spoken to her since the news came out and it was starting to really upset her; Val had been a very close friend even if she often reminded her that Jimmy was out of her league.

“I know you'll be an amazing mom, if you can handle Jimmy, then you can handle his offspring.” Zack said to her knowingly as he licked over his lips lightly then sipping his Jack Daniels.

“Oh, that isn't what I'm nervous, scared or worried about.” she said to them shaking her head, “It’s the labor and delivery, have you seen how tall this man is?”

Brian busted out laughed. “Oh god, I feel bad for you.” he said shaking his head, he had a buzz she could tell just by how his eyes were shining lightly, they seemed a little to glossy.

“I've done some calculations, and I think I'll be due around April tenth,” Hanna said as she looked at Jimmy who beamed at her, he seemed so excited for the baby they had accidentally created.

“Wow, it doesn't see that far away.” Matt mumbled as he looked at the excitement on his best friends face. He knew he loved Hanna, he always had maybe not in the way he did now – but he loved her since the day he met her. There wasn't a love he'd seen like that besides his own and Val's but he could tell by the way his fiance was looking at the two that she didn't like it.

Hanna nodded, “I know, it's what makes me more nervous then I already am.”

“I'll be right there, you'll have nothing to worry about.” he said kissing the top of her head, “We're telling our parents tomorrow, I know my mom is going to be excited. Not too sure about her's though – I think she hated me when we were growing up.” he laughed as she scowled.

“You were always doing something to piss her off, so I wouldn't doubt it.” Hanna said smacking his arm defensively.

“I know, but she was always yelling about something – if it wasn't me, it was your father, and if it wasn't him it was you, the dog or the people across the streets with the loud cars.” he said with wild hand motions, Hanna couldn't help but laugh. He was right, his mother was a complainer and her father had joked on numerous occasions that she was yelling at her while she was being born – but she could actually picture it now that she thought about it. It's what she did best, but she was probably the world’s greatest mother. Hanna was the only child, maybe that's why. After Hanna was born her mother had a lot of problems, one of them including ovarian cancer. So, she had a hysterectomy so the problem wouldn't be there anymore.

“I know, but she was a good mom.” she smiled a little as she looked at him.

“She was, because she let me around you – I'd be lost without.” he said dramatically pulling her into his side forcing her and the guys to laugh a little. Val even cracked a smile, no one could resist Jimmy's loud and funny outlook on everything it made it hard to keep a straight face even when you were mad. Hanna smiled a little as she looked at all her friends, and she knew right then she wouldn't change a thing. Even if they'd had the biggest shock of their lives today – knowing she had the support system she did made it all worth it.

After the small get together they all went home, with the exception of Jimmy who followed Hanna to her house so they could have some real time to talk to one another – she didn’t know how happy he actually was about this, but she’d find out. Reading him sometimes was hard but she never seemed to have the problem the guys had – it was like she knew exactly what he was thinking even when he was shutting himself off from everyone; which he rarely did. When they got to her house she climbed out of her car and smiled at him, “come on lets get you something to eat,”

“You’re always thinking about me – are you hungry?” he asked her, “I should be taking care of you,”

“Jim, I can take care of myself – you know that, besides you can’t cook to save your life; like I’d let you cook in my house,” she snorted playfully as she unlocked the door and walked inside.

“Well, that we can agree on, I was going to order take out,” he said grinning a little as he set his jacket down then shut the door behind him. Walking up behind Hanna he wrapped his arms around her resting his head on her shoulder, “I wouldn’t poison you with my cooking,”

“That’s very sweet,” she murmured as she leaned against him closing her eyes – soaking up the moment. There had been times where she’d thought they’d had something more special than friends, and moments like these were the ones she thought about, her entire being just becoming one of his. To think she was going to have his baby it kind of scared her in the sense he might not be happy.

“Are you really happy, Jimmy?” she asked softly as she looked up at him as she turned around in his arms to face him. “I know this isn’t exactly an ideal situation,”

“I’m happy,” he nodded and kissed her head, “I know that I might be acting a little weird cause to be honest this isn’t what I’d ever expected to happen; but it is and I can truly say I’m happy about it. I’m happy it’s you, I wish I could explain how much it makes me happy that we’re having this baby together,”

Hanna felt a little more at ease, but not enough to put all her worries to rest but it would do for now, all she had now were actions to back up his words. So far he had been perfect, and he had to know that she wouldn’t take any less than his best for their baby – that would mean cutting back on the alcohol consumption; if he wanted to be part of its life he’d need to realize being sober came with parenthood.

“We’re going to be fine, we’ll tell the parents tomorrow and then go from there,” he said to her and she nodded a little.

“Come on, let’s get you fed,” she said to him as she walked into her kitchen.
