Swallowing Light

Too Young

Even if being sixteen wasn't everything is was cracked up to be everything seemed to be okay in her life. She had cool friends, and was going to be graduating high school a year early. She got into a great local college so she didn't have to leave her friends. Hanna was still happy she could see them every day and not have to worry about living in a dorm with a stinky roommate. Taking a breath she continued to take notes from her history book on the American Revolution; she had to do a paper on it, and she still didn't have near enough facts on it in order to finish her four page (front and back) essay. She easily heard Jimmy walk through the back door of the house - she knew it was him because he was always one to make an entrance even if scared the living daylights out of someone which is usually why her mother scolded him in the first place.

Her mother scold him for not just using the front door, then proceeded to lecture him about sending her to an early grave - he knew she was just teasing but he loves seeing the look of fright on the older woman's face when he bursted through the door.

Hanna smiled to herself as she shut her history book knowing once he got up her she'd get nothing done until he left or until she got home from whatever function he took her too. Even though Jimmy was twenty one now, her mother didn't have a problem with them hanging out as long as one of them was responsible. Which in most cases it was usually Hanna unless there was some kind of natural disaster then Jimmy was the protector - but mostly Hanna was the one who was the adult and she didn't mind it much. Jimmy's carefree childlike behavior never really bothered her, to be honest she kind of envied him for being so happy all the time.

"Oh Hanna!" Jimmy called dragging her name out unnecessarily as he walked down the hallway to her bedroom - she could hear his feet thudding on the floor as he took each step.

"Yes, Jimmy?" she said as she opened her bedroom door looking at him with an arched eyebrow.

"Aw, aren't you adorable acting all grown up." he said pinching her cheeks forcing her to groan, she really hated it when he did that her, it wasn't so much the pinching its that it really hurt.

"Really?" she whined as she shoved his hands away from her face then rubbing her now pink cheeks before pushing her hair out of her face with one hand as she stood up to put her books away.

"Oh, don't get fussy with me young lady!" he said picking her up and putting her over his shoulder forcing her grab a hold of his shirt so she didn't go head first onto the wood floor - while she knew he'd never drop her she felt the threat was ever present and she wasn't ready for short term memory loss.

"Put me down! Put me down!" she laughed as she slapped his backside and grinned to herself when he made a noise of surprise.

He purred,"I didn't know you liked me that way Hanna, why did you say so sooner!"

She laughed out loud as he put her down, "Oh I don't know, nerves I guess." she joked with him hiding the tension in her voice, her and Jimmy were strictly friends. When she was fifteen she had gone through a rebellious phase - her mother had told her she wouldn't have sex while living under her roof, well she definitely showed her.

Jimmy was her first - and to be honest he wasn't too sure if it was right what he'd done or not, but he cared for Hanna even if it was only as a friend. It was better to have sex for the first time with someone who was honest and was always going to be there for you, and she loved and trusted him more than anyone in the world; so who better than him to lose her virginity to? At the time she didn't realize the kind of trouble he could get into, but as of now? they never talk about, and she thinks in some respects its better that way.

"Well, now we can get married. Have a bunch of little Sullivan's running around the yard, and a dog names Spruce." he said nodding in affirmation, looking quite sure of what he had just decided. Hanna couldn't stop thinking about what he'd said even if she'd known if he was joking. Three kids, a dog, and a white picket fence? It sounded wonderful if she was being honest.

Hanna looked at him, her brow raised as she shook her head a little, "So what are the plans for today?"

"Uhm, I think the guys wanna go to the beach - then Matt is throwing a huge party as his place, bar-b-que and everything." Jimmy said to her as he plopped down onto her bed propping his head up with his hands while he looked at her.

"As in big party, you mean, the guys and us." she said to him as walked over to the bed and climbed onto it with him then laying her head on his chest - her favorite place was right next to him. It might sound like an infatuation but she loved him; when someone has been there as long as he had for her? It was hard not to love him.

His chest rumbled as he laughed,"Yes, that is exactly what I mean, so bring your bathing suit. You got three more weeks then school is out forever!" he said hopping up, she whined.

"I just got comfortable you ass," she whined as she climbed out of the bed walking over to her dresser. The drawer made a squeaking noise as she opened it, she grabbed her polka dotted bikini out of the drawer then went to pack a bag really quick.

"Ah poo, you'll get over it; hurry up I'll be in the car!" He said as he skipped out of the house, she shook her head at him then licked over her lips as she searched for a pair of shorts she could change into. After changing into her bikini she grabbed a scrunchy and a towel.

"I'll be back by midnight, mom." she said to her and she nodded in agreement not looking up from her novella. Hanna shook her head then walked out the front door, Jimmy whistled at her.

"Hey sexy, why don't you come my way!?" he cat called making her blush a little and shake her head, sometimes she didn't know how she could stand him and his antics - but she wouldn't change it for the world. She climbed into his car and shut the door, she looked at him.

"You're crazy you know that?" she said to him and he shook his head.

"Nu-uh, I'm hilarious." he corrected her making her laugh, the same line he'd said to her when they first met. It was kind of like an inside joke between them.

"Oh sure, sure whatever you say," she sighed dramatically, mocking an annoyed voice only making him grin at her further.

"Damn Skippy!" he said to her in a mock scolding tone as he looked at her. She smiled a little and grabbed his hand, she loved holding his hand - his fingers laced between her own even if his long fingers seemed to dwarf her hand she didn't care, it made her feel safe and comfortable.=

"So, apparently Zack got a new girlfriend. It's like he has a new one every week. "he gossiped with her as he shook his head in a faux disapproving manner.

"He does, it's kind of sickening." she said as she licked over her lips, "I mean I hear how he brags about the juicy details with each of them it's gross." she muttered.

"I agree, but we all know that Zack has commitment issues. He will get over them once he has fucked all of the women in California who want him." he said shrugging making her make a face at him.

"He totally has AIDS, he has too." she said shaking her head at her promiscuous friend. It's not that she judged him for it, it was that he had to brag about it, with his life on blast it was hard not to wonder about the cog wheels in his head.

Jimmy laughed at her comment and slapped the steering wheel as he pulled into a parking space. She looked at him and shook her head, he was always happy about something even if the moment didn't really call for happiness - being alive is what Jimmy thrived on; which actually makes sense. Hanna loved that about him, he was always doing something to make everyone smile.

She climbed out of the car sighing as she spotted everyone already set up in their usual spot, she grabbed her beach bag that she always brought with her to the beach. Johnny waved wildly at her making her laugh as she walked over to them, Johnny was the closest to her age. He was eighteen, and was probably the second coolest guy she'd ever met in her entire life.

As Hanna and Jimmy walked over to their friends she smiled at them giving some of them hugs then, began to set her towel and stuff out so she could lay out. "So, Hanna - are you seeing anyone?" Val asked from beside her and she snorted in laughed.

"No, I don't date." she said shaking her head a little and licked over her lips a little. Val frowned, she didn't understand her. She knew she was waiting for Jimmy to come around, but she needed to understand that she was too young for him right now. Jail bait. He could go prison if he touched her in a sexual way.

"You know...you're too young for him right?" Val said as friendly as she possibly could.

"What are you talking about?" Hanna asked looking at her confused, her brow furrowing up as she licked over her lips a little. Val was like the big sister she never had, and sometimes the mother she needed. However right now was not the time she needed her to be a mother.

"I know you're waiting on Jimmy to see you as more then a friend." she said knowingly to the girl next to her, Hanna sighed a little and licked over her lips a little.

"I know it's not going to happen, there is no need to rub it in my face." she muttered as she looked at the clear blue sky, her face set in a frown. "I mean just cause I'm too young now doesn't mean I can't be with him when I'm older,"

"That is true, but we both know if anything happened now - then your mom wouldn't have any qualms putting him in jail." she told her, and Hanna knew this. Her mother loved Jimmy, but she made it perfectly clear that their relationship better stay platonic.

"I know, and nothing is going to happen. He has a girlfriend; remember her. The slut bag." she sighed and Val laughed at her bitterness towards the girl Jimmy was infatuated with. Jimmy didn't just like girls out of the blue - he stuck with them for a long time so she knew that her chances with him were slim to none at best.

"I just don't want to see you hurt," Val said to her softly as she looked at her and sighed.

"I know, but I can take care of myself." Hanna told her as she licked over her lips. Hanna was tired of people shoving it in her face that there was no chance in hell that Jimmy would be with her. He was way out of her league and she knew it; the crush she had on him was massive. She'd had it since she was about seven years old. She thought he was the cutest guy she'd ever met - then slowly she began to develop feelings beyond a crush for him.

This is why she thought guys and girls should never be friends. It was messy and hard to deal with at times. Even if it seemed like it was worth it, sometimes she wondered how her life would be if she hadn't of wandered outside and met Jimmy the way she had.

It didn't matter, she'd always be too young.
